So my dad gave me this old Mauser of his and a box of 7.65 he had sitting in the safe. Problem is, 7.65 is fucking expensive as shit. I love this Mauser but not enough to spend almost $1 a round. Ive seen some forums talking about reboring it for .308 and I'm wondering if its safe to do so and also if it would mean that it wouldnt have this manufacturer engraving on it. I like the idea of having it still on the gun even though the stock and barrel have been "lovingly bubba'd" by the guy who gave the gun to my dad.
What I'm trying to ask is SHOULD I BUTCHER THIS GUN TO SAVE ON AMMO COSTS AND ALSO POTENTIALLY FUCK IT UP BY REBORING IT?

no
just pay the dollar a round or leave the gun unfucked so the next person who gets their hands on it isnt fucked over by your shitty life choices
>>34496437
No, it would not be safe. Also it will cost you more than it's worth and destroy the value. The amount of money you'd spend/waste could buy you enough ammo to last a lifetime.

Leave it alone. If you really want to save on ammo costs, learn to reload. If you're shooting good .308 you won't be saving much anyways.

Nigger its a fucking Mauser theres hundreds of thousands of these damn things. Its already a frankenstein gun with this stock the guy made for it.

Been curious about reloading. Might be the way to go. Cheapest box of 7.65 I can find is $16.50 for a box of 20 rounds. Definitely more of a monthly shooter if anything.

What the fuck is this anon?
>>34496541
I still dont know
Only markings I can find on the stock is on the butt
>>34496490
Is it on upside down
why does it look so...angry
if its already bubbaed who cares
>>34496437
A.No because 7.65 Argentine is larger in diameter than .308
B.your retarded for even wanting too,and i hope a court strips your firearms rights so that rifle is sold to someone who appreciates a good vanilla rifle
>>34496437
no, don't do that
>>34496624
Looks like the red head brand found at bass pro- they sell gun related stuff.
Anon that is the ugliest stock and bubba job I have ever seen. It looks like a sex toy. Just burn that stock please.
>>34496816
>vanilla rifle
Nigga did you even read the post.
This things already been turned into an abomination
>>34496490
....why the veins and knob on the forestock?
>>34496437
>Ive seen some forums talking about reboring it for .308 and I'm wondering if its safe to do so and also if it would mean that it wouldnt have this manufacturer engraving on it.
No. It would be impossible to "bore" a 7.65x54mm chamber with a .313" bore to .308 Winchester with a .308" bore; the .308 is a smaller cartridge and cannot be supported in the larger 7.65x54 chamber. Therefore the rifle would have to be re-barreled. This would not affect the manufacturer's rollmark, because it is on the receiver.

>theres hundreds of thousands
About 190,000 Argentine Model 1891s if I recall the 4 contract sums correctly.
Also nice cock stock.

Like I fucking said dude. I dont know. It was gifted to my dad by the wife of some guy he knew at work who got fucking destroyed in a motorcycle accident and it was his dads gun so Im sure its a family heirloom hunting rifle that somehow made its way into my possession. I like the history behind the gun but its an expensive shooter and old as fuck. Dont even know if its currently safe to fire. The bolt is wobbly and I only have 43 live rounds for it in an old 5.56 ammo can. Havent had time to have a gunsmith look at it but when I'm given the OK I'm gonna take the ugly sonnovabitch out to the range and blast my "cockrifle".
Pretty sure you guys are projecting about the 'veins', and that it's just super simple scroll. The knob appears to just be a knob, but once you guys are seeing a dick you're seeing veins in round lines.
