Would this function?
>>
>>34496010
It would knock you down flat, possibly break your shoulder and not fling the thinger far enough to keep it from blowing you up, as happens often enough in the game.
>>
>>34496010
Why not use a rocket.
>>
Retarded concept. Why is it shoulder mounted instead of being a mortar?
>>
>>34496692
Because Power Armor is a thing in the setting so people can run around and shoot these willy nilly no problem.
>>
>>34496010

ASSUMING EXOSKELETONS ARE FUNCTIONAL WITHOUT A LONG POWER CABLE.

Would you be able to get enough force and resistance to launch a mininuke?

Power armor would be a thing.
They practically weigh a ton and allow the user to rip mini guns off the foundation of aircraft and use them like they have no recoil.

>>
>>34496010
The problem would be launching the nuke far enough to avoid serious damage from all the nuclear fallout and being able to physically withstand the force required to launch it far enough to not kill you. There's also the issue of sighting it in, considering you're going to be aiming at a target at least a mile away, probably farther. But I guess it isn't as much of an issue when you consider just how much damage it's going to do.
>>
>what is the recoil on a 60lb projectile launched at 200ft/sec

not pleasant i imagine
>>

I would be extremely painful
>>
I don't know the weight in-game but the US's smallest real nuclear warhead was the W54 at 50lb. It'd work but you'd also have a fractured ass from the recoil throwing you onto the ground

I've never understood this thing. Like, I get the davy crocket connection and something like it is hardly far-fetched for fallout. But the execution
Why did it have to be some PIATesque catapult bell-ringing abortion?
why not just make what amounts to a man-portable davy crocket? In effect, a nuclear carl gustav.
But nope
we have this.
Thanks Bethesda.
I swear video games began to die as soon as they started offering game development classes in colleges and major studios started requiring people with degrees.
Now that that the last holdouts from before this era are retiring and we're beginning to truly reap what has been sewn.
things are going to get a lot worse before they get better
>>
>>34497069
Because a man portable nuke catapult is way more interesting and memorable than a generic rocket launcher? Throwing a mushroom cloud effect in after an explosion doesn't make the bog standard video game rocket launcher any more interesting.
>>
>>34497214
The davy crockett isn't even a rocket launcher. Needless gimicking up a perfectly fine and enjoyable weapons with childish bullshit for the novelty factor alone is exactly the kind of thing wrong with modern game design. The fat man seems entirely out of place in it's setting

Even this?

> implying that video game weaponry made more sense in the "good 'ol days.

Also, it has nothing to do with studios hiring people with a college degree, and everything to do with people being just as clueless about martial science and engineering than they were before.

Nostalgia distorts people's memories. The games from your childhood and/or early adulthood didn't have better weaponry, you just had lower expectations.
>>
>>34497489

Name one war where the side using the FN FAL has won.
>>
>>34497697
>moving the goal posts
>>
>>34497706
Why do you develop new weapons? To win a war.
That is their intended purpose, and a product that doesn't work is one that cannot fulfill its intended purpose.
So no, the FAL does not work.
>>
>>34496010
I never understood how this worked. I've played several of the Fallout games and I don't understand how you can launch a nuclear weapon about 20-30 feet and not blow yourself and everyone else within a 5 mile radius to kingdom come.
>>
Not unless it was on a mount, no
>>
>>34496022
There's ways to compensate for the extreme recoil created by the fat man. Shocks, pads, other spooky shit. This isn't a catch all argument.

>>
>>34497919
So it can only win a war against itself? And not even the original design anyway?
>>
>>34497458
Assuming the gauss rifle works in the traditional sense of electromagnetically projecting an object, I don't think the noise would be great enough to require a suppressor. Perhaps the object breaking the sound barrier would produce sound but that could possibly occur beyond the length of the barrel. not super sure.

Nukes have such high energy density that the explosion from a warhead that size would be ridiculous.
A much more novel idea would be a weapon the size of a pellet pistol that launched REALLY miniature nukes and had the same size explosions as they do in the game with a Noisy Cricket kind of vibe.

>the games from your childhood didnt have better weaponry
Bullshit

Games like Metal Gear, Half Life, Resident Evil, and Goldeneye were using real guns long before these Bethesda shitheaps started being released.
Even games like Halo had guns based of off real guns like pic related and make infinitely more sense than the garbage those lazyasses put in the fallout series
>>
>>34498786
Nukes have a hard minimum of size based on the critical mass of the fissile material.

there is no way it gets faster

>>

That's what they did in the final version. That's literally concept art.

>Why even bother flipping it down to reload?
Because it's easier that way.
>>
>>34497737
It doesn't matter that it never won a war, its intended purpose is to throw little bits of lead at the target and at that it succeeds.
>>
>>34499167
They probably just played it for a change of scenery
After all, patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
>>
>>34497737
>>34497737
Taliban or Vietcong fucked the greatest armies in the world using sharpened sticks, poisonous animals, ww2, early soviet, homemade and scavenged weaponry. What's your point?

The FAL is a good equal to the H&K G3 or AK47.

The point in history where a standard issue rifle can win a war is over.

The prussian needle gun was the best example of a rifle that won a war, the STG44 could have made a difference, but would've had a counter part fast.

Iirc it'd be pissible (also very expensive) to scale a nuke down that small using californium (i forget the specic variation, but one is supercritical in grams.) as the fission source.

Californium, francium, other manufactured nuclear metals that get supercritical in small ammounts.
