I'm an old fag and there were plenty of surplus AKs in the 80s. Galils, Daewoos, HK91s, HK93s, Uzis, Macs, Sterlings, Stens, FNs, Valmets (really wished I would have picked up a Valmet and Galil) every WWII and WWI rifle you can think of (except StG 44s) and boat loads of SKSs (SKS and Enfields were sold out of barrels for anywhere from 35 to 65 dollars a piece) where plentiful.

ARs were around 300 to 350 back then. I got my SP1 with a serial number of 3XX in 1984 for 350 and it was in mint shape. I only wish I would have started a whole collection when everything was so cheap.

Gun shows were very interesting. Plenty of crew served MGs and even a mortar or two. One vendor selling suppressed full auto Uzis and Macs had a table right next to a door. Would step out the door and fire off a half a mag for prospective buyers. Cop there "guarding" the door could have cared less.
