So I feel like I'm probably gonna get sarcastic answers for this, but I figure I'll ask anyway, since I just don't know enough about this myself:

I am wondering if there are any combination guns that are lightweight (for a combo gun), shoot .22 or .223, and 12ga shot and slugs, for under 400 USD.

>>34494775
I guess, but I was looking for a gun with a very versatile ammo supply. Like basically a gun it would never be likely to run out of ammo for. Plus the .22 is quieter and shoots a lil further, yeah?

I think O/U and SS 20ga, even .410 ga shotguns are severely underrated for field work. True, .410 does require more practice and shooting at closer ranges, but with a lightweight SS gun, or even .410 over .22LR makes a supremely handy bushcraft/innawoods gun.

Rossi currently makes a 20GA/.22LR combo that I've seen at Dick's for $150, although it's SS, so you have to switch the barrels out. It's also kinda rickety.
Savage makes a gun called the Mod. 42, but it's like $500. Combo guns tend to be expensive in general.
I also know that Remington imported some Baikal shotguns as "Spartan" something or other, but I don't know if they're sold anymore.

Anyway with O/U or SxS guns you're mostly looking at Turk guns nowadays unless you buy some old used gun from a pawnshop or shell out 4 figures. They have been largely eclipsed by pumps.
Also I think old Mossberg bolt-action magazine-fed .410s are neat. Some guy from Maryland brought one to Arkadia Ranch last year and it was way too much fun to dick around with. Expensive to feed though.
>>
>>34494872
Yes, the 1300s are amazing. The marine finish is always a plus, although rust is a non-problem in the vast majority of the state.

Great if you ever cross into Nevada to shoot, because the high desert is all salt flats which means rust.
>>
>>34495380
go buy a flash light from the 50's and put a LED bulb in it.
>>
>>34495408
combo guns are always expensive? I guess that explains that. Time to go find a good break action single shot 12ga...

I have a Nova Tactical and an old Winchester 16 gauge from the 60s. Both are excellent guns. The only complaint I have is the Nova kicks like a bitch. Even for a light pump. It has a 3 1/2 chamber but it wouldn't be fun shooting full power loads in it. I also have an 870 Express from the early 90s that's my 'go to' shotgun. Skeet, doves, quail etc. The 870 was either the first gun I bought new when I turned 18 or the second.

Anything you recommend for fighting the rusting? She's gotta stay pristine.

The .410 is my favorite, only because it was my first gun. The 500 is a close second though, nothing like fanning buckshot into a burn barrel. Still trying to find mags for the 20ga
>>
>>34504993
longevity and customization are comparable to the 500, action-bars & foregrip are pinned together ,however

And heres the 500 after a shitty stain job. Going for 'dark walnut' soon

another note, the maverick receivers are not drilled & tapped for mounts..the 500s are

500 sounds a bit better for making one's own, I take it.

Where can I get info on different 12gauge loads regarding grouping size and distance?
>>
>>34505262
Pretty much. I own an 88 and absolutely love it, though i'm partial to the utilitarian appeal. The 88 feels like more of a tool than the 500, if that makes any sense.
>>
>>34505320
>>34505428
Thanks, I'll just spend a bit longer saving rather than getting the 88 right now.

Got a Benelli M2 tactical, 922r compliant, ghost load mod for a total of 6 +1 capacity, and a 5 round side saddle. I'm a cop for a large police department and carry it on duty. I bought a Briley 6" barrel extension for hunting, and it screws on just like a choke. I like my shotgun.

Ithaca still makes the M37 in a riot gun configuration and Inland makes the M97 trench gun.
>>
>>34494949
Inland makes one.

Model 50 with a Cutts, awww yea

all i got to say is get a better shell carrier for the tactical one. aluminum. you won't regret that $70.
>>
ARfag here I have a question about 12 gauge specifically buckshot/slugs.

Are they as devastating as the stories make them out to be? I've heard cops tell me when they came to the scene of a bugler being killed by a shotgun that there were bits and pieces everywhere.
>>
>>34505979
They're pretty fucking strong. 00 buck is arguably pretty overkill against a person, which is why different rounds are recommended for HD.
>>
>>34505897

Not a fan of metal ammo carriers. I've had zero problems with these ESSTAC velcro ones. Shells hold tight, no issues. And I can easily rip them off and replace empty ones. And they carry in AR-15 mag pouches.

Thoughts on the H&R Pardner?

Slugs are no joke. People fucking kill 1200 lbs brown bears with 12 gauge slugs. 9 pellet 00 buckshot is (sorta similar) to 9 rounds of 9mm. The shot is just slightly smaller diameter, but it's close enough for the comparison. Standard 9mm ball out a handgun is going maybe 1200 or 1250 fps. Out of a shotgun that 00 buckshot is going closer to 1350 to 1400 fps. So it's approximately equivalent to getting hit with a 9 round burst from high velocity 9mm FMJ out of, say, a MP5 submachine gun. Yeah, it's gonna do some hurt.

Forgot to ask, what's the highest price one should reasonably pay for the thing? And does it actually accept Remington 870 aftermarket parts?

I'm in California too. The Cutts is alright, I have the cylinder bore and the Improved cylinder. Usually run slugs through the latter. It's a cool device that allows easy choke changes. Only issue is you need a bead or sight that sits above the line of sight of the Cutts.
