What type you prefer and why
1. Semi auto
2. Bolt action

>implying that those people call themselves snipers.

Is it School holidays in the states?

Bolt action.

I prefer semi but only shoot 500-800 tops.
>>
I'm looking to get one but it is hard to decide
>>
>>34493160
Keep it bolt. Maybe I'm a fudd and semis have become as accurate in follow up shots and the like but I haven't had a lot of experience, only with shitty rifles.
>>
Bolt action definitely.

Bolt gets you smaller groups.
Semi auto gets you more capabilities.

There are no semi auto rifles out yet that can guarantee .25moa, but there are bolt rifles with the guarantee.

Yes, don't worry you've still got a whole month to pretend the season affects post quality.
>>
I like both, accurate semi autos are expensive though
>>
>>34494413
hurrr not only there is really little reason to trust that retard (you know the guy who managed loss money after selling 500k mobile apps )

sites like alexa exists where you could go and check that traffic in summer increases rather substantially not even taking into consideration that site demographic will change significantly in summer
>>
>>34494553
Naturally you must have a screenshot to prove it? Unfortunately I don't have a subscription. What you're saying sounds completely logical though. When students go on break, the first thing they do is go to 4chan, to the weapons board, and make terrible quality posts. This is something they can't do while in school though, obviously. Clearly after a hard day of schooling, they are too tired to post here.

Currently Shooting with a bolt Action in Gen 2 RPR 6.5 Creedmoor. Saving up for a semi-auto in the same caliber so that I can only carry one rifle in the woods instead of multiple ones. Plus being able to use 25 round 308 PMAGS makes things much easier.
>>
>>34493160
The first thing to consider is what is "long range"?

Personally for a "precision" rifle, (cause you might need to make a shot fairly close, say 3-400m, but the target is relatively small) I want a semi, but light weight is most important to me. Most precision bolt guns tend to be really heavy, granted so do most gas guns, but something like a scar or what I chose, a predatar, will get you moa or better, which is sufficient for most precision shooting out to the ballistic limits of the cartridge, but still be managable to carry in the field. Climbing up a cliff to take a 800m shot is dramatically more difficult with a 16 pound heavy barrel rem 700 then a 10-12 pound 16 inch gas gun.
>>
I'm thinking of getting a Ruger precision rifle. They are about $1300 bucks, but claim to be accurate at like 1000 or more yards (can't remember exact distance)... Anyways, do you guys think it would be worth it. Also, there is a 600 yard range nearby, so its not like I'm shooting it at 50 or 100 yards, so I'd like it to be pretty accurate.

Very worth it. I was shooting it at 1000 yards this weekend with ease. GET IT!

in cuckfornia, so wont be taking it out much, but want to have a big caliber rifle below .50 cal, 18 and making 2.5k a month so price doesnt matter to me that much since i dont pay rent and eat with my family.

Do you reload?
>300 win mag bullets compatible with most 308 bullet grain wieghts
>weight
>easier to lug around a Nemo semi Auto rifle at 10 pounds over a 338 Lapua at 13 to 16 pounds plus optic
>>
>>34493160
I've shot the 12x12 gong at 1000 yards with my norinco m14 and can consistently on a day with good weather. Knowing your gun. Simple math practice. And (in my case) tons of mods or just not buying a shitty gun helps.

Don't feed into hurr durr bolts or nothing meme.

In the same position as you, except jobless. Saving up for Falkor Petra. $5800 w/o optic, but it's a .300WM, that supposedly does .25MOA. Carbon Fiber barrel so it weighs 10.5 lb unloaded. Seems like a pretty nice gun.
>>
>>34498062
yea was thinking that too, kinda want a m24 if i can even find a good price for it, going to have like 1.5k by the end of the week and want to use it to buy some rifles

Bolt action 30.06, was good enough for Carlos Hathcock, its good enough for me.

>>
>>34497003
30-06 can shoot to 1k with good loads and can still be used for plinking with out breaking your wallet.
>>
>>34498326
any good sexy rifles i could pick up, was thinking of M1 garand or a m1903 if i could get one.amy recommendations?
>>
>>34498337

For actual distance shooting an entry line rifle from Winchester or tikka will shot better than either of those.

I'd go tikka is you want pistol grip and mods or a Remington 700 if you're fine with a traditional stock.
>>
>>34493180
He didn't even say anything about snipers, and there are people here who are into long range shooting.
>School holidays in the states
Oh. Go the fuck away, europoor/ausfag
>>
>>34493160
Got to try pic the Ruger bolt gun and a Sig 716 at the range the other day, both topped with 18x scopes. Ruger takes it for price and trigger, 716 for more pleasant shooting and overall a little more "fun". Both kick.
>>
Australian here. Have to go with bolt action, as semi-auto weapons are illegal here.

If I'm shooting a rifled gun, I prefer a single-shot breech loader
>>
Depends on what you want to do with desu.

A .5 MOA boltgun will generally be cheaper than a .5 MOA semi.

The boltgun also has the potential to weigh less and be easier to carry around, but most commercial offerings that reach that kind of accuracy tend to be heavy as fuck bench queens. So it's pretty even either way.
>>
>>34498220
Most factory rifles are shit when you look at "out of the box" , some just suck less is some aspects, Remington is fine since the aftermarket is so large, you can unfuck it eventually. Tikka and Howa tend to be considered higher quality otb , Savage as well , but I'd consider something else if I planned to stay in the long range game for very long, as the Savage line of rifles tends to have a shorter life span parts wise.

I have an RPR gen 2, it's nice to shoot, but I honestly preferred my Savage, but that was mostly because of the Stock (McMillain A2) as the Ruger outshot it any given sunday.

As to Semi, the only experience I have long range is a National Match M1a, I was decent with it but honestly I felt more comfortable at the 700 yard line with the Savage and later the Ruger.

>>34494372
There are several semis that come with quarter MOA guarantees tho. One of them has been in production since 2005 as well.

Unsurprisingly they're made by many of the same companies that make the quarter MOA boltguns.

>>
>>34497003
Out of those choices, get the 300.

Since money isnt an issue order a gap if you dont mind waiting 6 months for a high end custom, order a proof research if you want something using the latest space age technology, order a tac ops if you dont mind waiting 2 years for a work of art.

Or just get something with a really smooth action like a winchester 70, sako, or tikka
>>
>>34498100
Ya, youre not gonna have any luck getting a m24. My recommendation if you really want one is order one through GAP.
>>
>>34498337
Get a new winchester 70 sporter or super grade. The action is so goddamn nice. And the rifles look fantastic.
>>
>>34499983
Like what?

All i can think of is GAP 10, but thats a 1/2moa guarantee not quarter.

>>

>>
For a first time longer distance shooter I'd shy away from .308. People here recommending .300 win mag for a first gun are straight up retarded.

.22 LR would be ideal to learn fundamentals but I think you could skip ahead to an intermediate round that will still allow you to shoot 1000 yards or more.

.243, 6mm creedmoor, or 6.5mm creedmoor are what you should be looking at.
>>
>>34501130
308 is the cheapest to learn 1000 yards. Because 23$ a box of match ammo.
>>
>>34498317
Pretty sure he used an m40 in .300 win mag. Or sometimes a tripod mounted m2 with a jury rigged scope mount
>>
>>34498797
that's 1.2moa, nigger.

Georgia Arms Precision

http://www.gaprecision.net/
>>
>>34501437
Nice, the prices aren't that bad, it would take me a months work to buy a m24 from them, and that GAD looks real nice. what would you recommend from them?
>>
>>34498796
how do you guys shoot so far?
Even with a scope, I can't imagine shooting past 100-200 yards. Unless you guys have super magnified scopes (then how do you see anything, your field of view must be so narrow)
>>
>>34501635
It's not that hard to imagine,
https://www.shooterready.com/mildemo.html

At 10X its not super hard. I tend to shoot at 12-14X depending on which rifle i'm using.
>>
>>34501635
Actually the higher magnification scopes can be worse for long distance shooting due to distortion. But any high quality scope won't really have that problem and if you're shooting long distance with bargain bin glass, well, you get what you pay for. I shoot at a 10" steel gong with a 20x at 300-600m (id shoot further if there was a place to do it around here) and seeing the target at those distances is rather easy. I think what it comes down to with most new shooters is getting used to shooting at a (visually) small target. Have to aim small to hit small
>>

>>
>>34501437
Its actually gnats ass precision

>>34501613
GAD?

Honestly, if you are gonna shell the money out for one of their rifles, I would either get the military rifle you want, or go custom.

As a good all around rifle, I would get the gladius or thunder ranch rifle rechambered for 300winmag, if thats the caliber you want.

When looking at precision long range rifles, there are a few things to consider.

Distance you want to shoot
Mags or no mags
Competition or hunting
Suppressed or unsuppressed
Factory ammo or reloading

I personally will more than likely never make a shot past 1000yards. I will never reload. I will never compete. And I doubt I will ever get a supressor. And if shtf I would probably grab my 8lbs AR vs my 12lbs bolt rifle.

I have 2 bolt rifles with different purposes. One is a rem 700 on an xlr chassis that I use exclusively for long distance classes. The 308 match ammo is cheap, its easy to learn on, and it was fairly simple to diy. My other rifle is a winchester 70 featherweight in 30-06 that i built to run around the woods and hunt and target shoot out to 1000. I was interested in carlos hathcock growing up and always wanted to learn how to shoot a 3006 out to 1000 using a 10x. So with the classes I can now make those shots if i take my time.

Pump action.
