Post your favorite tanks here! I'll start us off with my favorite: the good ole Patton.
It wasn't perfect but it had potential and looks gorgeous

Any T-64B with ERA
>>34491760
I don't know much about tanks, but I think the new polish pl-01 tanks look fucking sexy
>>34491760
Can't beat the classics.
This makes me cum every night

>>34493511
I never heard it called a Patton until recently and they were still in service when I was in the Marines.
>>34493400
That picture is very confusing. What tank is that? Looks familiar but those Kraut markings are throwing me.

>T-55 for sale
Holy fuck
>>34492482
Panther had a planned gas turbine and/or a dieselization program for 1945-1946. Would have been interesting.
>>34491760
It may be funny looking, but it's a mighty fine machine.
>>34493511
He had 3 other tanks officially named after him, I think we're ok
>>34491760
This sex machine
>>34495232
There's always T-54/55 tanks for sale nowadays. Hell the occasional T-62 even pops up on occasion.

because it looks cool
>>34491760
You realize that your picture is a toy, right?
-Those grenade launchers shooting straight out to 3 o'clock
I mean, it IS a toy of an M60, but - nobody else on /k/ got all aspergery about it yet like I did?
/k/, you're disappointing me.
For NATO, my favorite is the Chieftain...
>>34496260
...And you can't go wrong with a T-72M, at least until 1985.
>>34496243
I did not realize it was toy actually, after looking at it after looking at your post, I feel like an idiot now.
>>34491760
The M60 is the best looking tank of all-times
>>34496298
Damn straight.
I don't know why, but I always liked the Ha-Go light tank. It was a useless piece of crap, but I still like it.
I love the sound of the T-90A
>the one with the welded turret
>>34496260
piece of shit automotively until the late '70s, turns out to be not as well armored as everyone said, but sounds awesome when it runs
>>34496884
Its really not that dumb. The howitzer version is a great assault gun. It stops rifle fire, HMG fire from the front at long range, and is stupidly fast for a tracked vehicle.
>>34496287
No- I'm the asperger's having bitch.
The M60 is cool as shit, man. Enjoy the hell out of it.
I like the M1 (A1 [AIMS] model) Abrams.
It's a shame no real combat records exist for it. I really want to see if this thing could have killed a Sherman or a T34.

Calling a MBT anything but one...
Panzer 3 with long 50mm gun may not win in firepower or armor, but it wins my heart. Such a cute little tank.
>>34501936
Changing the definition of a MBT to call it one...
It is a specialist armored gun, not a MBT by a long shot. Does not meet the maneuver requirements to be an actual MBT. Is it a good ambush tank killer? Maybe, no combat record but should fill the roll competently, but is not a MBT.
>>34497701

>>34502195
they only made sense because they could fit a relatively large gun for the chassis and because of wartime production (being easier and cheaper to produce)
a tank with a turret is (afaik) superior in every aspect (possibly aside from the ability to fit an extremely large gun, but that's irrelevant today).
I'm rather fond of the Churchill tank.

Why did the brits insist on constantly building shit tanks? I mean, there's been a lot of good ones, but Conqueror wasn't one of them.
>>34505717
Yes the US did build the hull of the tank but the turrets were British and so only used by the British.
Here is another British tank.

Can't explain it, really.
>>34505837
the us made the turret as well
>>34505837

Bullshit. All the brits did was replace the loaders hatch and cut the back out and stick a metal box on for the radio. It's their changes, but you can hardly say there were british made.
>>34505875
I didn't say they didn't but it doesn't change the fact that the Grant was a British tank.

>>34502996
I figure that some issues were the cost of the development, the fact that diesels of the 20+ liter displacement are ungodly heavy compared to gas engines, so there was a perceived notion that they were relatively underpowered for their size, especially with the primitive fuel injection and forced induction systems of the day. The final and most likely biggest issue is the time and material it would take to retool and set up new assembly lines for diesel engines when you're already running out of both as-is. And the risk that the factory would be bombed as soon as or before production starts while having been useless for nearly 6 months while being converted to diesel or turbine production.
For gas turbines the biggest issues of the era were just reliability and power for the size that it would be. For a full powertrain using a turbine the reduction of rpm from turbine to a transmission, which was most likely something that had never been done before, granted it's a relatively simple reduction gearing setup but that's just what we say nowadays.
Oh and not cooking anything around you, so then you have to safely route the exhaust with minimal constrictions and safety concerns for maintenance crews while still keeping major modifications to a minimum on the Panther hull to facilitate rapid factory conversion or even field conversions.

Are you retarded?

The P Tiger II.
It was the worst project for Germany at that time, and it was made poorly and rushed to production. It was unreliable, complicated, way too big and way too heavy.
But it's still my tankfu
>At that time, minesweeping was done by soldiers walking slowly over the dirt shoulders of the highway with hand-held mine detectors. During this slow process, convoys would build up into a dangerously inviting target for the enemy. As a result, a faster method was improvised, the "Thunder Run", in which one M48 lined up on each side of the road, with one track on the dirt shoulder and the other track on the asphalt; then with all guns firing, they raced to a designated position miles away. If the M48s made it without striking a mine, the road was clear and the convoys could proceed. In most cases, an M48 that struck a land mine in these operations only lost a road wheel or two in the explosion; seldom was there any hull damage that would be considered "totaling" the tank.
>tfw tank can run over mines

>Raseiniai
>The German Panzer 35(t) tanks and anti-tank weapons were ineffective against the Soviet heavy tanks, some of which were out of ammunition but closed in and destroyed German antitank guns by driving over them.
Holy shit.
>A KV-1 or KV-2 tank (accounts vary) advanced far behind the German lines after attacking a column of German trucks. The tank stopped on a road across soft ground and was engaged by four 50 mm anti-tank guns of the 6th Panzer Division anti-tank battalion. The tank was hit several times but fired back, disabling all four guns. A heavy 88 mm gun of the divisional anti-aircraft battalion was moved about 730 m (800 yd) behind the tank but was knocked out by the tank before it could score a hit. During the night, German combat engineers tried to destroy the tank with satchel charges but failed despite possibly damaging the tracks. Early on the morning of 25 June, German tanks fired on the KV from the woodland while an 88 mm gun fired at the tank from its rear. Of several shots fired, only two penetrated the tank; German infantry advanced and the KV opening machine-gun fire against them and the tank was knocked out by grenades thrown into the hatches. According to some accounts, the crew was buried by the German soldiers with full military honors; in other accounts, the crew escaped during the night.[17]
>The 6th Panzer Division Kampfgruppe commander General Erhard Raus, described it as a KV-1, which was damaged by several 88 mm anti-tank shots fired from behind the vehicle, while it was distracted by Panzer 35(t) tanks from Panzer Battalion 65.[h] The KV-1 crew were killed by pioneer engineer unit who pushed grenades through two holes made by the gun while the turret began moving again, the other five or six shots having not fully penetrated. Apparently, the KV-1 crew had only been stunned by the shots which had entered the turret and were buried nearby with military honors by the German unit.[18]
Using shells to destroy 88 guns is overrated.

If your tank is only going to be defensive then you can save a lot of time and money by only armoring the front. It's generally considered cheaper to just build one tank for offense and defense these days, though.
