Why do people hate the Confederacy so much on here? I get the part about slavery (which most southerners didn't partake in) being wrong (which it is), but there was so much more to it than that. The southern states were getting royally fucked over both economically and politically by northern states who only looked down on them. They essentially had no voice in their own government, and the northern imposed cotton tariffs were crippling the southern economy. Then, on top of that, the north wanted to outlaw slavery (which is a moral thing to do), which would have further crippled their agrarian based economy. So yes, I agree that the Confederacy was in the wrong on many points, but let's be honest: the northern states were a bunch of elitist fucking assholes who only wanted to keep their position on top while ignoring the southerners they considered beneath them. By the time the first state seceded, they practically had run out of other options. So it's not all black and white, and the most anyone is able to think these days is "MUH RACISTS" and "MUH TRAITORS TO THE UNION" as if the union didn't partake in fucked up shit as well as the south.
