While it's a logical, simple solution to beat kids until they wise up, it's a bad strategy. The kids I see who are subject to corporal punishment at home are usually much worse behaved. They also attempt to evade punishment: either by lying or resisting, and sometimes both. Of course, it's not a 100% trend, and some kids who get spanked are fine, and the ones who aren't are not all angels. However, if you want a good kid, I wouldn't hit them.
Consistent deprivation of non-essentials is a fine tactics, and consistency is the key. If your child knows you're reasonable, paying attention, and will hand out justice for their actions both good and bad, they'll respect you.

I often try to take people shooting who have never fired a gun before. I think I'm up to 25 or so by now. Usually they're very careful/respectful. Especially the women. I start on a CZ452, then a Ruger Security Six loaded with standard .38 spl loads, then a Glock and if they're up for it .357 Magum and some 12ga out of my Mossberg.
Usually start them with only one round in the magazine or cylinder and let them load more as they feel comfortable. Apparently learning how to shoot an automatic pistol is very hard because proper grip technique is not obvious and slides fly back pretty damn fast.

Anyway, the biggest problems tend to be with know-it-alls who have played too much COD. These are the same personality traits that smoke weed when driving 100MPH+ on surface streets because "lol I got it bro, don't worry XD". DO NOT take these people shooting. They won't learn anything and you'll be lucky not to walk away with some extra holes in your hide.

I believe this, I'm a kid who was never spanked but got sent to the corner or had privileges taken away. My brother and I never got into trouble after about 8 years old. Something about being made to sit and deal with consequences and guilt lasts and makes you plan for the future.

I don't think there's major psycologic effects with physical punishments unless it's brutal or permanent but I've heard that a quick physical punishment isn't good because it makes a kid think there's more of a penance for their actions and that they can do bad things and everything will be alright after they've taken their punishment. If the kid isn't being an unruly cunt and not accepting their punishment you have to physically make them though, even if that includes a beating.

My guess is it is someone who uses a progressive press and didn't change out the powder measure before switching rounds. This kind of thing occurs mostly in those who get complacent. My wonder is how he didn't notice the difference in recoil or noise level when compared to either factory or previous loads. If he was older, I can see that he didn't notice happening. I have heard horror stories about guys using smokeless in the place of black powder (a very bad thing) just because they didn't notice the powder was different or they thought that was the powder in the measure.

This. I took a girl shooting today who never touched a gun before and she was super scared. Took her a while with my 22 rifle to get dialed in, but her first shot with my 1911 was square on my reactive target (at 25 yards, no less). She continuously corrected herself on her stance and had good grip the whole time. Her only problem was flinching, so I'd make her dry fire a few times to get over it before giving more ammo.
She is a really good pistol shot.
