I'm lets discuss best AR, retro AR.
Anyone know anything about the barrel Troy uses for their XM177 offering? I'd already have to strip that fucktarded light grey paint they used on their receivers, I don't need a barrel replacement to add to the list as well.
Fixed carryhandles are OLEV
OP here. this is the carbine I built from the Brownells receiver set.
>>34489895
another view.
here's the XM16E1 built from the receivers in the front of my picture.
and the other side.
>>34490042
sorry lost the pic
for a proper build I needed to remove the flash on the FSB. which needed to be reparked.
I also removed the forge code and found a way to retexture the area to remove the grinder marks.
>>34489716
you cant afford it anyway
proper accessories are a must. on the left a 1969 dated cleaning kit, unissued.
on the right a third issue bipod case, bipod and early cleaning rod with knurled end.
>>34490115
>>34490120
>>34489902
>>34489895
Nice, reminds me of those old Colt Sporters and their variety.
>>34490125
>>34490132
notice the rod end on the early cleaning rod. commercial threads, not military.
here's one on gunbroker. the seller relisted it. last time it went for $510.00.

>>34490105
Don't project anon that hard anon, you'll hurt yourself. ;^
OP here. one last post before I head out to cut the grass.
602 build. don't know what I'm doing yet. real parts are hard to find so I'm planning on reproducing my own.
>>34490345
Gotta love them slickside uppers.
Make sure to protect your skin against the sun by the way, I've seen more than a few people with sunblisters from mowing the lawn or doing yardwork with no shirt on.
>>34490667
wtf thanks mom
still need to find a teardrop FA.
>>34491916
Hmm, Canadian Bacon A1
I mean why shouldn't this just go in arg? It's not hard to filter the ones who don't serve the discussion.
Sorry for the interruption.
>>34491916
once in a while, ill have a hankering for a KISS carbine like this. i kind of already, but its a 14.7" mid length upper. the mid length makes it kind of funky, maybe i should swap it for a colt carbine barrel
>>34491958
Colt Canada build. genuine C8 upper minus the BCG and charging handle
>>34492040
Yeah, I really dig the A1 upper but with the A2 style of brass deflector, very nice for a simplistic build.
I kind of want to build a full Dissy with a receiver like that, and a genuine Dissy too, 16" barrel with a full length gas system.
GOD DAMN IT WHEN WILL NODAK SPUD MAKE MORE M16A1 STYLE LOWERS?
>>34491988
I think it needs some more stuff desu, simple light mount and a small red dot to be KISS.
>>34492060
yeah that'd be interesting. I'd like to do a m16a1 ish build
Was waiting for this thread again (fuck I need to take some more pictures)
Anyway I saw a pic on the last thread about someone who had what looked to be some sort of USGI rifle bag for their A1 clone? I didn't check the thread in time for them to tell me what it was and I can't find exactly the one they had anywhere.
Also ordered one of the cheap m7 bayonets off midway the other day we'll see how it goes.
My 603 barrel 1967 upper...now I need a old Colt lower..
>>34489663
Didn't we just have this thread?
>>34489663
When is AR-15 Sport going to get in more refurbed M16A1 kits?
>>34492212
You could also use a 20 rounder anon.

>>34492067
You just missed the big rush this year.
They made like, eight this time!
What makes it retro?
>>34492427
Non-removable carry handles basically.
>>34492067
Brownell's makes one, though they only have slightly blemished ones in stock. Do not despair, anon.
http://www.brownells.com/rifle-parts/receiver-parts/receivers/lower-receivers/ar-15-m16-a1-blemished-lower-receiver-prod107496.aspx
yo can we get some retro heatshields my man
bump because need more retro pics in my life.
>>34491916
AR15sport.com. can't enough good things about these guys.
>>34492243
you just have to keep on checking. they do live up to their promises.
>>34492533
these are the ones with selector markings on the right side. I duracoated mine so it wasn't an issue. price was $125.00.
Um hello, is this close enough?
When the fuck will nodak get XM16E1 lowers, thinking of buying on of their 80 percent ones and doing that (those were in stock 2 weeks ago)
>>34492533
Shit. That would be perfect if I could refinish it in XM gray. I have a black lower on mine and it just isn't right
Is there anyone who re-annodizes lowers that yall could recommend?
>>34494772
http://www.usanodizing.com/
this is the company who does work for NDS.
you're looking at about $150 the last time I looked.
>>34494139
it was eight months for my pair of uppers and lowers.
>>34492240
yes we did. I was unable to post because of the raid and the thread 404'd before I could finish posting.
>>34492067
you have to get in line. its an eight month wait.
>>34491965
ARG is by classification.
you can go this route. expect bidding to be brisk.

>>34494139
That setup makes me erect.
>>34494139
>gooseneck + trijicon reflex
I know those reflex sights are "meh" at best, but the overall setup looks slick.
>>34494973
ok kms sry
>>34490185
Hold on a second...
something something mojave nuclear winter
>>34494139
Shame I don't know you IRL because there's a gunshop near me selling one of those awesome old school grenade launcher heat shields for a good price.
>>34494139
I'm tempted to buy one of those mounts/optics, but would it look weird on an A1 clone?
>>34496343
I think it might ruin the aesthetic a bit, you'd be better off just getting one of the OG carryhandle scopes.
>>34493859
Maybe if you flip it right side up it will.
My Retro build. Converted a Norinco. Old pic back when it had the A2 pistol grip-it has an A1 grip now. Stock is still A2, though, for that longer LOP, so I can't call it a real A1 clone, eh?
>>34495460
The sight still has enough tritium to work in the dark and the fiber is good during the day, not the brightest but it works.
>>34496343
Its on there because it was pretty cheap and overall just a cool optic, would be good if you want a jew clone.
>>34496363
The Colt scopes are a bit expensive tho.
>>34496409
I tried one of the goose necks at a local shop. Was comfy, but does kinda ruin the look. I used to have a beat to piss Colt scope. I'll likely pick another up someday.
>>34494932
US anodizing isnt currently taking on new work
>>34496409
>The Colt scopes are a bit expensive tho.
They're like $350.
>>34496391
nigga the fuck happened to your FSB? You take an angle grinder to it or something?
>>34491988
>>34492115
Agreed on KISS build. I'm trying to collect parts for a friend of mine that wants a build of her own, but it'd be more in the lightweight aesthetic than retro.
So I want to do an XM177E2 clone build, what's a good place to start? I want it to be relatively authentic, but I don't feel like dealing with NFA shit.
>>34498105
Griffin Armament iirc sells a replica moderator/backpressure increase-r thingy ala the original XM177E2 that you can pin and weld to your 11.5 and above barrel so you don't have to deal with NFA.
>>34498253
I really hope the HPA or SHUSH passes, because I want Moderators to become a thing like they could have been.
Just a device to make a short rifle not as obnoxiously loud and bright.
Maybe make them actually user serviceable, unlike the original Colt Moderators
>>34498301
Same. Really hoping for SHUSH though. Then, getting SBRs off the list.
>>34498311
Like, imagine a Moderator for something like a M92 Zastava, just a short section of blast chambers and a bit of a flash hider to reign in that big fireball.
Then stick a folding brace and a plastic handguard on it, maybe with some 20rd plastic mags, and you would have a very nice AK carbine that actually wouldn't be that impractical.
Of course, also getting SBRs off the list would be great too.
>>34498253
Sweet, I'll look into that. I'd seen full uppers with already pinned flash hiders, I just need to do a bit more research on what the difference between the moderator and flash hiders is. I was under the impression the ATF was a bag of dicks and called the moderator a suppressor.
>>34492286
Good deal on colt 20 rounders.
Thanks anon
brownells and a few other people sell xm177 moderators also, im not sure if there is much of a difference in all of them.
>>34500029
No problem I bought 3 myself.
why did falloutfags have to appropriate wood furniture ars
I want one but i don't want autists coming up to me saying bullshit about patrolling the mojave
>>34503005
Patrolling the Mojave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter.
>>34502970
Now I need one of those

>>34503433

>>34503443
>>34490115
Love me some accessories.
>>34503066
It absolutely does. Kind of want to go to the water park right now though to make it better.
>>34498416
Agreed. I'd like to get an AR build very similar to what you described for the Zastava just for compactness.
>>34498690
They're hollow on the inside so the ATF doesn't reee. Moderators are probably suppressors to them--meaning, anything that lowers the report of the firearm. The Griffin works like any other linear compensator by directing the muzzle blast forward. How effective is it, I have no idea.
>>34503489
O.O
> this entire thread
I came
>>34503459
>>34503876
are there any cheap but good manufactures of a1/a2/sp1 uppers? basically all i want is a fixed handle-guarded upper, no picatinny or detachable nu-male shit.
>>34504202
NoDak and by extension Brownells make pretty good repros, for mine I just went ahead and got an original parts kit online.
>>34504254
Another thing to add is that "numale" picatinny rails are actually pretty neat, Pic related was my fathers day present to the old man and I actually really like them too
>>34489716
I have one, what are your questions?
>>34504202
This is your best bet for a1. You can probably find cheaper a2 uppers out there.

>>34503310
just for you anon.
>>34503882
I remember an FFL having two blank mags. never thought of buying them.
from what I understand they are worth some bucks.

>>34504254
>>34504625
thanks sexy boys
>>34504980
>>34504994
is this your pic? how do you seal that plastic "chieu hoi" bag
>>34504994
original 1970 issue mags. the bandoleer has 7 in plastic bags. I also have the box the mags came in dated 4/70.
>>34505015
there is a soft metal strip on one side of the opening. you close the bag, roll the flap and bend the ends to keep it closed.
>>34496285
>>34503333
This damned heat...
original mag with rounds head stamped LC over 73
It ain't me
>>34505052
>>34505036
thanks. i thought it might be heat sealed or something.
Now I'm just having fun with it. Was a hoot at the 4th of july party.
>>34505072
>>34505073
the new ones are zip lock and are designed to hold 30 rounders.
I still have the handguard and the launcher from this... should I put it on my A1?
>>34505083
>pencil barrel
>drum mag
rip
>>34494139
Protip, don't buy the ones from centerfire systems.
I exchanged the first which was similarly broken and got another that was broken even worse, pic related. I talked to the person and they informed me that what I got were indicative of the entire stock.
This is the bit that slips into the delta ring.
>>34505456
Well, the heat shield I should say.
>>34505406
YES
>>34503333
Where did you get your wood furniture?
I'm always tempted to post my XM4-gery. What's the cutoff for "retro?"
>>34506580
>XM4
Post that shit, as long as it has a carry handle and no quad rail I'd call it retro.
>>34492427
>Fixed carry handle
>no dust cover and/or brass deflector (not sure about forward assist)
>thin 1:12 barrel
>triangular handguard
>no fencing around mag release
>carry handle latch is different
>3 prong flash suppressor
>different butt stock
>different buffer
T. Chris bartocci
>>34506741
Meant the charging handle latch not carry handle latch kek
>>34503333
Muh dicc
>magdump a few mags
>gun smells like a campfire
Thanks to the anon in NC for selling me the upper. I'm never getting a flattop upper again. Should I put an A2 grip on it? I might be the only person who doesn't hate them but I do like the TD though
>>34506685
>>34506950
Before anyone asks, fiberlite or plastic stocks are correct for the XM4. I own one of Tony's Customs aluminum stocks and they're not spec for any generation. They aren't vinyl acetate coated, but rather painted matte black. Might be interested in one of Troy's XM177 stocks if I put more work into my A1 upper.
>>34506950
>>34506995
Nice gat. I've seen pics from early GWOT of M4s with fiberlite stocks, so either they were phased in gradually or guys kept them if they could.
>>34506995
>Troy's XM177 stocks
i think youll be dissapointed. i know i was
>>34506837
fuck yeah anon an a2 grip would definitely help the aesthetic I think.
>>34507152
That sucks to hear. What's wrong with them?
>>34496285
What grips on the HP?
>>34490345
Is that a chromed bcg?
I've been thinking about a national match build with a stainless barrel and wanted the carrier to match, but NiB is apparently a meme
>>34505072
>>34505052
Is that one of the old disposable mags?
>>34492040
i need that now
>>34506741
What is the consensus on proper profile barrels in different twist rates? I'm not sure why you would want one in 1:12 if you plan on shooting much
>>34510097
1:12 is fine if you only ever shoot 55 grain actually
>>34509077
I'm not sure. I have never seen one.
