I looked at using a HSP horntail mount but I'd have to run my hand further back on the hand guard to activate the light. I find no zero shift or loss of accuracy mounting it on the barrel.

What's a good pic rail light-mount that isn't one of these? All the sexy new mounts are keymod or M-LOK, which is great, but some of my older guns will wear picatinny until they die. I'd like something that isn't offset. Right now I'm using a 1" scope ring, which works fine, but it's ugly.

Depends on your situation. If you live in an apartment then no, you don't need a thousand lumen tactical strobe light on your AR. If you live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere like me and occasionally have to shoot at furry little bastards bothering your chickens at 3AM, then yes, having a bright ass spotlight on a rifle is essential.
