Hey /k/, I am looking at getting my first 9mm.
CC is illegal here and it will "never" be used as a defensive tool, but rather a "sports shooting" firearm. That being said, I hate when pistols go full blown sports shooting mode and become cumbersome and impractical for real-world use.
Manual safeties aren't a turn on or turn off as I don't expect to be in a situation where a safety would be a hinderance (i.e. CC draw). I do have barrel length and magazine size laws, so I'm restricted to full size only and 10 round mags.
I'm also entirely uninterested in anything 1911 because they're all extremely over priced and usually only have 9 round magazines that sit flush.
I'm basically down to:
>Glock 17/34
>Beretta 92FS family
>CZ Shadow 2
>CZ P09
>Sig P320

I'm leaning towards a 92FS for the aesthetic, but I'm open to others' opinions

Becareful with Glocks as their limited 10rd mags are not as reliable as their standard cap mags.

It really all depends on what kind of gun you like and what interests you since CC is out of the question. I wouldn't mind having an M9 for a range toy, they're practical and at the same time extremely shootable and satisfying to use. You can get the Type F safety converted to a Type G decocker only for about $55 in parts.

Well my dude, I'd avoid strikers if it's realistically only a range toy. No offense to the fans but a DA/SA will have a better trigger. Of those I'd personally pick the 92FS, specifically the M9A1 with an M9A3 decocker conversion (or 92G-SD if it wasn't unobtanium, and no a Wilson is not the same). The CZ SP-01 is a better target pistol hands down but I find the wee slide to be a massive pain in the ass. I also know people who find the 92's open slide to be a pain in the ass though. Really this is all hot opinions though. Can you hold the guns before buying? Have you considered the fine but overpriced offerings of SIG? What exactly do you want us to say here?

You will be much happier with the CZ. Beretta has qc issues that have damaged its reputation, while CZ is highly sought after for its accuracy by competition shooters.

As far as aesthetics:

Why don't you get yourself something in .45 or some other fatass caliber so you don't waste space in the grip?

OP, turn around and look away. /k/ is being retarded right now.

Yeah I've seen the decocker mod, looks cool. There's a Wilson distributor here so I could somewhat easily get the parts.
And yeah I'd believe DA/SA would be better over DA only for sure.
SIG are an option but nearly double the price of the OP list, right up there with H&K.

>>34480013
I've thought that but my stupid laws mean if I get .45 I am restricted to steel target shooting at the range (as all shooting must be done through my club and for the appropriate competition).
It is an option though.

Beretta 92FS was the first handgun I ever bought, sold it years ago for a glock 19 and missed it ever since. I have a shitton of 9mm nows including an M9. I still shoot berettas better than any of my other guns.

Only shitty thing about berettas is the lack of a removable front sight, there are services that will drill it out and install night sight lamps though. Replace the mainspring with a D spring for like $10 to dramatically lighten the DA trigger pull.

>Yeah haven't heard anything about QC issues. Maybe just surplus M9 issues?

Ignore him, guy's a retard. You don't badmouth Beretta's non existent QC issues then tout CZ right after it. Yes, CZs are quite mechanically accurate but Berettas are also very accurate. Hell, Gen 4 Glocks are very accurate along with Sigs. Complete fluff post composed by a man of room temperature IQ.

Stick with 9mm, there is no logic behind opting for a .40 or .45 because you're limited in capacity. All you're doing is upping to a larger caliber and sacrificing affordability and most importantly, shootability.

The military opting for shitty finish on the mags has damaged the reputation of the M9/92 more than anything else.
>>
>>34480059
There are some models with dovetail front sights such as the Brigadier and 92A1
>http://www.beretta.com/en/92-a1/#FeaturePoint_3
Wilson sell fibre optic replacements too.
Wilson also sell numerous hammer spring, slide spring, short reach triggers, and other replacement parts for a relatively cheap price.

You're welcome my man. Do tell, where do you even live? It doesn't sound like you live in the US. I can link you to some really good videos on learning how to shoot DA/SA if you go down the M9 route.

Australia.
tl;dr I just applied for the pistol club, and will be approved on Monday. Then I need to wait 6 months and can then get the pistol.
Yeah I'd be keen to watch, thanks.

Rad. I really like the 92FS from what I've seen online. I've heard it's common to feel bulky for people with small-medium hands, which I fall into.
However, there is a short reach trigger, and thin G10 replacement grips available, both of which reduce grip bulk.

I'm keen, hope I end up getting one.

If they fit your hand (especially your finger on the trigger when on DA), go for it. Contrary to what a lot of idiots think, Beretta M9's are straight up top quality guns. If the short reach trigger and G10 grips don't do it for you, check out the Vertecs.
>>
>>34480308
Yeah I forgot about them. I'm not sure how widely available they are, but we do have the M9A3 (really expensive though).
While I have the (you)'s, is there much difference functionally between 92A1 and 92FS?
From what I can tell, 92A1 just has a light rail and rounded trigger guard (largely useless for me), and a slightly different frame (which makes it incompatible with the 22LR conversion kit).

>is there much difference functionally between 92A1 and 92FS?

To my knowledge, the 92A1 has a dovetail sight, accessory rail and a snowflake slide that makes them incompatible with the majority of M9 holsters.

I used to make a bugaboo about having a rail for a light on my gun but I'm seeing it less and less as a big deal so I wouldn't mind having a regular M9. Would like to at the very least have a fiber optic front like Dawsons installed by a gunsmith if anything.

The M9A3 is nice in the sense that it is pretty much the only M9 that Beretta is actively producing that has the vertec grip but the 3 dot night sights and coating are things that add extra cost to the gun that make me not want it. I really hope Beretta starts making more Vertecs since they did move their factory a while back.

>>34480308
Yeah I've been saying for years that is hard to beat the quality/price ratio beretta offers. None of their parts are MIM, chrome lined bartels, few parts are polymer and even those still have steel cores. Fit and finish is awesome especially on the newer American made M9s.

Berettas are excellent.
>>
>>34480406

Trigger and guide rod are plastic but replacement parts exist and are widely available for cheap.

Carried a glock 17 Gen 3 since I turned 21. I'm 24 now, shot my Glock a lot, but got a CZ SP-01 tactical about a month ago, and it is now my favorite pistol. I like my glocks still, but full metal DA/SA hammer fired pistols are amazing to me now. Cant go wrong with a CZ or Beretta.

Is this actually true? I know Beretta has some plastic parts like guide rods iirc but I don't think this is an issue since they can easily be replaced. Hell, HK is touted to be durable and reliable (which they are) and they use MIM.

I own 2 PX4 CC's and they're top notch. Strongly agree with Beretta having a good quality/price ratio. The PX4 can be had for little money and they're amazing guns that nobody knows much about, the same can be said with the M9.
>>
>>34480453
I really want a PX4 full size but I spent way too much on guns last year and now I'm trying to save up for the down payment on a house, I'm jelly.
