Why do fudds hate iron sights so much? I swear these rednecks have made it damn near impossible to buy a bolt rifle with propper sights.

This is specifically written to exclude the /k/ommunity.

these are the same people who complain about switching from striker fire triggers to DA/SA trigger.

It really reminds me of people who began archery with a compound bow, very forgiving on form, and when they tread into traditional bows, their form fucks them up and they have to practically re-learn everything.
>>
>>34478729
Why would you need a scope if that range only goes up to 100 yards?
>>
>>34478729
Because some of us have dreams
>>
>>34478602
They're sold generally as sporting rifles designed for hunting or target shooting.

Hunters appreciate magnification as it increasing their ability to deliver humane kill shots especially at farther distances.

Target shooters often shoot smaller paper or metal targets that can be difficult to see at extended ranges.

These are not sold as combat rifles.

>>34478602
Because adding sights would make the rifles more expensive to produce and sell for no added benefit to 99% of people who buy a bolt action. Someone buying a savage axis wants a gun to shoot a whitetail at ~100 yards, not do a mad minute at 25.

This was true 5 years ago, when the only bolt rifle you could find with iron sights was a remington 700 bdl.

But nowadays, there are more options.

Savage, winchester 70, ruger, etc...

>>
>>34478602
Look for cheap milsurp rifles. Plenty of decent condition bolt rifles. Perhaps an 8mm Mauser, 303 enfield, or 7.5x55.

Also lever guns, the caliber selection is shit but there are a few gems. Mainly 30-30 but it's a great round for most deer hunting, excluding wiiiiide open areas (200 yds +)

And then there's single shot rifles from companies like Rossi,NEF, and h&r.
They come in all kinds of calibers from .22 to .308 and many of them have iron sights.

>buy a bolt rifle with propper sights

You use the word fudd, yet you are frustrated with ALL THESE WHIPPERSNAPPERS and their new fangled technology.

Scopes are better than irons. There's no benefit to using irons besides the fact that they are classy and low profile. You do not need BUIS on a hunting rifle. Quality scopes are more durable than blade irons, and the location of irons can fuck with your eye relief.

Also, there are three or four sub 1k bolt action rifles I can think of that are being marketed with irons. Way more if you include Sako rifles and other euro offerings. And never mind that the market is totally awash in old hunting rifles with irons, as well as milsurp, because you're gonna be a fag no matter what.

Shocker.

I do not understand looking down on people that use good, modern equipment in order to achieve important goals.

DA/SA triggers are shit. Even their staunchest defenders know it's much harder to shoot well with one, and the learning curve on a self defence tool shouldn't be that steep.

I love my longbow, but 99% of the traditional archers I see have no business shooting at big game with their gear. To me, "challenge" means risking failure, and in this case failure means wounding game. This is unacceptable in my mind.

I have zero qualms about my kids never learning irons on anything but pistols.

You're full of fucking shit, and must be new as fuck to not remember how prevalent DA and DA/SA guns were until quite recently, even with Glock being an option for decades. Guess nobody could shoot their handguns until 10 or 15 years ago?
>>
>>34482056

Be as upset as you like, but don't pretend that a 13lb DA/SA trigger is as easy to learn on as a stock Glock.

>10-15 years ago

And they're largely disappearing from serious use.

I like all guns. I like Beretta 92's and SIG's and every other quality pistol. However, if you're looking for a carry/police/military weapon, you have objective criteria that are more significant than "this gun gives me a boner how dare you say something bad." In this case, the criteria includes simplicity of operation. That means striker fired.

>>
>>34482931

6lbs is the pull weight of a stock Glock 17. Are you really going to cover your ears and try to say that the double action pull on a DA or DA/SA handgun is as good or better? You're flat out making things up. I too am googling, and most 92 series triggers are breaking at 11-14lbs, SIG's are all running 10+, CZ75's are running 11-13. These are not "oddballs," you're bound by the amount of work that the mainsprings need to do to get ignition. Most striker fired pistols are essentially at "half cock" all the time. That is why the pull is lighter.
>>
>>34483045
>6lbs is the pull weight of a stock Glock 17. Are you really going to cover your ears and try to say that the double action pull on a DA or DA/SA handgun is as good or better?
Many would tell you that, Glock triggers are nothing special.
>>
>>34483045
I will say 6lb is to low unless it has a D spring, 8-12 from my googling and was correct with my pistol.
>>34483104
In fact from my time with borrowed glock I will say they are shit. Especially with that half cock that putts it in between a DA and a SA trigger.
>>
Some low-level fudds don't greatly care for them, but once they evolve past shooting deer with any old crummy Winchester Remingtonby T3 and acquire a taste for the unusual, the iron sights become more common. Iron sights are common on fighting rifles (double and bolt action), brush guns/guide guns, and generally on higher-calibre guns.
One of my favourite things to do is to sit and listen to old fudds talking about hunting trips they've been on abroad, particularly the ones that hunt in Africa.
Off the top of my head, I know that Merkel, Blaser and Sauer make rifles with iron sights, and it's no big trouble to see a gunsmith about installing a set of iron sights on your rifle. I've heard lots of good things about the XS Ghost Ring sights.
>>
>>34481091

1. You're talking to at least two different people
2. You act like pull weight in the only consideration when judging a trigger. If DA/SA's are so unusable, why are they still so prevalent in competitive shooting? How was anyone ever able to hit the broad side of a barn with a handgun prior to The Aglockalypse of the mid-00s?

>>

I never said they were unusable, and I never said someone can't get good with one. People still use them, but they're losing popularity fast and it's for a reason.

>>34483114
>>34483156

It's funny, in the same breath that you're saying the 12lb DA trigger on your favorite gun is fine, you complain about a consistent trigger that is only vaguely heavier (though admittedly mushier) than the SA pull on your favorite gun. I mean, if you like it, rock it, but at least acknowledge the dissonance at play here.

Merkel RX Helix, Blaser R8, Mauser M12, M03, M98, Sauer 100, 101, 404, Sako TRG-22 Jubilee, a number of Sako 85 rifles, and the Tikka T3X Arctic all have factory iron sights, and feed from a DBM. I also think the Weatherby Mark V Dangerous Game Rifle feeds from a DBM, but I'm not sure. Chances are that unless you have a great deal of money to buy their crazy magnum calibre ammo and a fetish for harsh recoil and ruined animal meat, it's probably not your kind of rifle anyway.
>>
>>34483396
>The thing you're saying is annoying isn't actually annoying, it's great, which is why I mechanically altered my gun to avoid it completely
Jesus Christ your reading comprehension is garbage. You made DA out to be this unavoidable obstacle that is inherent to DA/SA pistols when simply cocking the hammer before firing or leaving it cocked and locked completely circumvents the use of the DA pull. I further added that because I never use DA on my carry pistol because I prefer SA and train in disengaging the safety on the draw, i removed the DA function in favor of a more comfortable and cleaner breaking SAO trigger. Learn to read.
