Is it a meme? I kinda want one
Who makes the best one?
>>
Meme is such a shit term, you get outta here. But, as for the gun thing..

It's just not all that important. If you like it, cool. But truth is, the dust cover is important it keeps are shit out of your machine. Maybe a gibbz side charger, but it has flaws too. The rear charging handle is surprisingly useful and well thought out. The ar15 needs other things improved. Not that bit though.
>>
>>34477587
You're right. I forgot abt the dust cover. And the meme thing was just to get replies, /k/ hates it
>>
>>34477544
I want one for a suppressed pistol/SBR. Biggest advantage there is not having shit blow out the rear of the receiver directly into my face. But I also like the ability to charge it while keeping cheek weld and vision through the optic.
>>
>>34477544

why right side charging though?
>>
>>34477587
Some uppers have integrated dust covers and side charging handles. Mine does. Picture related

There is exactly ONE problem with this setup, and it's kind of important. If you charge it weakly, you're shit out of luck. Charge it again--do it right this time--and eject the round that you failed to chamber properly.

These kinds don't really give you the ability to force the action closed the way a milspec AR-15 bolt does. The one in OP's picture might, but it also looks mighty inconvenient to use.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

No, thanks.

So you don't confuse the shit out of yourself when you switch back to a real gun (AK)

Are there any uppers with a side charging handle that have a built in carry handle similar to an M16A1? I've been thinking of building a mock-up of the service rifle from new Vegas, and in New Vegas they use a side charging handle.

Link for that upper?

short of getting an A1 upper machined to accept a side charging bolt or using a drop in side charging handle, you could always use a standard side charging upper and bolt and put an A4 carry handle on it
>>
>>34479173
I want to make a side charge AR10 and take off the gas tube so that it works as a straight pull bolt action.

While I personally dislike AR charging system, it is there for a reason. AR main defence against dirt is how well it is sealed.

>>34479077

thanks grandpa. I forgot the AR was a shit still

Up here in Canada, Alberta Tactical makes a not-AR10 with non-reciprocating left-side charging handle. It's a premium gun with premium price tag, though.

They're fun. Bear Creek Arsenal makes good uppers and bolts, but order the handle itself from some other company. BCA's screws are known to shear off after a lot of use. I think LAR uses stainless steel, which is a much better way to go.
>>
>>34477544
Most fucking stupid shit you could do but whatever.

Get a non-ar if you don't give a fuck about philosophy of the design. I really think the AR18 philosophy is better for intermediate (and smaller) cartridges.

The AR-15 is supposed to be lean and precise, and I honestly think Stoner's design lends itself to rounds of ever increasing recoil-force.

It's just that .223, which was basically a good idea, happened at the same time as the AR10 (which was also basically a good idea)... And I think dummies jammed them together and ended up with a new thing that's neat too.

Now everyone, calm your tits.

they make special charging handles to mitigate the gas to your face thing

That's a Faxon ARAK series upper. It's very nice if a bit pricey and completely proprietary in it's design besides the firing pin. http://faxonfirearms.com/arak-21-upper-receiver/

For christ's sake, just skip spending on and subsequently destroying a perfectly fine AR-10. Buy a K31 or something.
