What the fuck? Used to be ss190 projectiles went for less than 50 cents, now it's over a dollar and never free shipping.
Since this is an ap ammo thread I have an idea on how to make ap 9mm.
First get some 115 grain projectiles.
Get some tool steel .315 inches or anything lose to .357.
Cut the steel rod into appropriate lengths and sharpen it using those spinning abrasive discs tools.
Heat the treat the steel with a blow torch and then oil quench it. Drill out the bottom of the 115 grain projectile and then pour in holy molten lead and then immediately insert the ap core. This way there are no air pockets. Remove any excess molten lead off the top.
Another idea I just had was to cut off the top of the 115 grain fmj projectile and inset an hardened ap core though the top but I've heard people blowing up their guns usinh this method to make hollow points so I'm not sure if it's a good idea.
Also not sure how accurate either of these bullets would be.
Also one last thing, load to +p+ pressures for best penetration. So 1300 fps. Will probably be more than 1300 since it will be lighter than 115 grains.

And no mr ATF agent Im not making AP amp since I'm a poor fag.

Bump.
has anynoe fucked with plastic sabots and steel penetrators?
>>34475942
Not accurate and sabots fragment inside the barrel. Unless it's like zinc or aluminum though iv never heard of such sabots.
>>34475942
it can work if you work up the right load but I've never seen 9mm sabots. Just get a 22 tmc conversion barrel.
>>34475942
what like SLAP ?
>>34476418
like this

>>34476504
I used to have some .357 THV
>>34475503
inb4 I get shit about it
Lehighs do some pretty wicked shit if you load them hot enough. I like their solid brass rifle stuff

>>34476594
What exactly are these? I've never heard/seen something like this. Is it just a smaller bullet in a larger casing?
>>34476705
pretty much.
you get the advantage of having a large bore volume and a "light" bullet, but once the sabot sheds away you have a high sectional density projectile going relatively fast.
they don't feed to well in semi autos though
>>34476705
>Is it just a smaller bullet in a larger casing?
basically. a small diameter bullet sitting in a properly sized cup that grabs the rifling and carries the bullet.
sabot rounds can be fired at extreme velocities because the projectile is so much lighter than normal
>>34476705
Velocity is key to penetration, along with bullet hardness.
Esssentially, yes. You take a smaller bullet, sleeve it, and drive it at an ultra high velocity to make it penetrate better. This is where hardness takes over.
I.E. Here is a steel tilling disk that a 500SW punched through with a super hot 500gr hard cast at a Brinell hardness of 21.
>357Sig 125gr FMJ in a brass jacket were splattering on impact barely leaving a dent
>>34476705
A plastic sleeve lets you put a smaller bullet in a larger casing. They tend to go fast.

I remember seeing somebody handloading 7.62 Tok years ago with 55gr .223 in sabots. It defeated IIIa iirc.

Wasn't the sabot designed for smooth bore shotguns though? That sounds like it would not be good for rifling if it breaks away in the barrel at high velocity.
>>34476812
They don't break away in the barrel. That guys a retard.
>>34476812
Yeah that would be bad. they are supposed to fall away as soon as they leave the muzzle. But shit can always happen.
>>34476858
Good to know. That sort of thing would certainly put me off of experimenting with that type of round.
FLC plus battle belt is best shtf clothing setup, pouches for days
>>34476876
Ahahahaha yeah that's why those accelerator rounds were extremely inaccurate. Why pretty much no rifle sabot works.
Do recall that the reason 7.62x51 SLAP never took off was that on at least one occasion the sabot failed in-barrel and projectile punched through the side of the gun's barrel. Not sure if the commercial stuff runs the same risk, the .50 version is still in some use today so it's not an issue with all sabot'd rifles. I'd only experiment with my lesser-valued guns, and keep my hands behind the action.

Oh look, found the moron! If you knew anything, you'd realize sabots typically aren't used in rifled barrels because it's a pain in the ass to get them to provide the right amount of spin, and even then, there's performance lost. Yeah, you can still get it to work, but again, it's a bitch, and for less.
