Performance? 18 inch spr barrels are fucking amazing. If you're doing an m16 Clone, then 20 is required. Or, be real neato and make yourself a mk12 inspired clone.

Prefer to just do local trade/sale/purchase. I looked at more pics, the visual enhancement is negligible when you account for the extra mile I'll have to go to find a 20". 18" sounds good but also kinda pointless IMO, if you're not gonna go with the full sized one why even get a bigger and heavier rifle, right?

I'm not gonna do a full M16 clone but I definitely want the rear sight carry handle and 20 round mag. You know, fuck it, I'm going to copy the picture I posted in the OP exactly.

Alright, not going to call you stupid for the 18 vs 20 confusion you're having. I was there to once.

The reason you go 18 as opposed to 20 isn't just because shrug, whatever. 18 gives you rifle length gas, with reliable dwell time for cycling, while reducing the overall length. The velocity loss from 20 to 18 is less than the loss from 18 to 16, while also taking advantage of barrel harmonics being less finicky the shorter the barrel is (often why a 16 can be MORE accurate than a 20).

This all makes 18s a sweet spot for several purposes at once making it ideal for GPRs and often competitive shooting.

But, if you just want the 20, get the 20, stop asking to have your opinion validated.

Thanks. I found a PSA 18" for $500 that I'm gonna try to work down. Better than the $700-800 heavy ass 20"s I keep seeing and I already have a 16" AK so there's really no need for another carbine.
