I was going through some boxes of my uncle's old stuff and I unexpectedly found this shotgun(sans stock) behind a box. I tried to pump it and the action went all the way back into where the stock would be, pinching the fuck out of my hand. It would only go back about halfway up the barrel, where it is in pic related. I know it isn't an 870 or a Mossberg because it has no ejection port. The only marking I could find was one that was faded to shit and said something something "proof testing". Any ideas as to what it is?

Remington model 10s eject out of the loading gate, fuckwad.
Like a BPS.
In fact, the BPS was based on the Model 10 with some improvements because JMB was a fan of Pedersen (the guy who made this)

They're excellent in terms of how sealed of the Guns are from mud and shit.

Remington model 29. try following this, since the gun is a takedown meaning its meant to come apart for ease of transport.

It's an Ithaca 37, you fucking noguns retards.

Get a buttstock at Numrich, and you can slamfire that sumbitch.

If you think OP's shotgun is an Ithaca 37 you need to pull your head out of your ass. The Ithaca 37 doesn't have a large tang/receiver extension like that, nor does it have a takedown mechanism of that type or a sculpted receiver. Clearly you've never seen the early Remington pump guns, or you're fucking retarded and assume every bottom ejecting shotgun is an Ithaca.

OP your mystery shotgun is a Remington Model 10, kind of an odd duck among the early pump guns but fairly solid if a bit complicated. You can snag a stock from Boyd's and clean it up a little and have a fun shotgun, one company even makes the wooden heatshield and bayonet lug of the Model 10 Trench Gun.

Depending on where you live i would trade you my Ithaca 37 PGO for that gun, and i would give you the full wooden buttstock and forend.

I think it's the earlier Model 10, it doesn't appear to have the crossbolt safety of the 29. Sorta academic because the 29 is a refined 10 but I'd wager if OP throws another picture out it might be a 10, although there is a miniscule chance it's a Model 17 but I doubt it, receiver looks to blocky.

>>34467326
I just felt the need to correct someone who is blatantly wrong, it's not like the early Remington guns are hard to spot. You can even see the takedown 'buttons' on the magazine tube and no Ithaca had those fiddly things. Nice misspelling on your picture though, high quality.
>>
>>34466108
look for a serial number anon, if you cant find one....i would leave it with your uncle and walk away. If you find one but its really faded take it to a gunsmith and have them punch the numbers in to the receiver. Either in a new spot or over the old numbers.

No matter what, its still pretty cool though.
>>
>>34467426
Serials weren't required until the late 60's and there is no need to add them to something made before.
>>
>>34467471
>not required til the late 60's.
Remington Did and if they were scratched off or anything it legally goes a very long way to have them on the gun.

its not illegal but its super suspect as far as a cop or lawyer is concerned and we are not entirely sure what model he has or when it was made.
>>
>>34467527
and if it ever had a serial number it must always have a serial number.

and Remington Most definitely put a serial number on that gun.

so without a serial number its illegal.

The serial numbers on guns prior to 1969 I believe (brain dumb) were simply for factory internal record keeping. What's more than likely the case is the original markings are simply worn or filled with crud. The finish on that gun looks too uniform for it to have had it's numbers removed. I'd bet if OP carefully cleaned the gun with some gun oil and the absolute finest brass wool and light touch he would reveal a serial number and patent dates.
>>
>>34467546
Checking a little bit and a Remington Model 10 especially could suffer from a lose of markings, the production number was located on the bottom of the receiver just forward of the ejection/loading port. Many guns of that era were held in that area because they balanced well at that point and it's possible the combination of grime and simple wear had largely obliterated the production number. Even if it did that is an internal factory number

If you get butthurt doing "something" with his mom, doesn't that mean that the "something" is pegging?
