What does /k/ think about the 25-06?
I'd rather use .270win for necked down .30-06.

It makes me wonder why they didn't opt for those stupidly long 120-140gr 6.5mm bullets instead so we could fix the mild velocity issue with 6.5x55.

6.5mm-06 is a thing. It just hasn't been standardized yet. 25-06 was a wildcat for many years before Remington finally decided to standardize it. Maybe with the popularity of 6.5mm cartridges, someone will decide to standardize 6.5mm-06.

It's pretty good, but I got into the 6.5mm game instead of the quarterbore shuffle.

6.5x55 is only weak if you are buying Krag safe ammo. The Mauser Only loads are just a bit hotter than factory .260.
I thought about getting a rifle in the round, but I'll probably go with .22-250 for my barrel burner.

Honestly, I don't see much utility when 150gr .270 has never been more common.

It's one of those calibers that I would get rid of if I could. Too many calibers, especially brand specific ones (Looking at your 300 RCM). There should be 10-15 rifle calibers at most.

What cartridges would you keep?

I love it because it is basically a standardized wildcat cartridge that kicks ass, but the barrel burning aspect is a bit of a bummer. I suppose I wouldn't shoot it much if I got one.
I reload, so ammo isn't a terrible concern, but it certainly isn't easy on the wallet for non-reloaders.
Plenty capable of killing all the critters in North America. Not my preferred bear or buffalo cartridge, but it would do in a pinch.
Pretty dank if you ask me

It's a really fucking cool cartridge. Amazing history and almost got adopted as a military cartridge. VERY good performance. It moves a 115 grain bullet at 5.56 speeds. This and The 22-250 are my favorite sub .30 cal rounds. I've wondered if modern chrome-moly barrels could handle it better than older traditional steel barrels.

I don't mind it. Wish militaries would adopt it. Good against body armor.
