i'm planning to go to grad school for infosec hopefully on a DOD funded scholarship which would end in a DOD job. the average person who identifies with hacker culture is a liberal socialist whereas i'm neither a socialist nor a liberal. although i do see the merits of giving a living stipend to people in order to preserve social order if jobs disappear to prevent them from killing and robbing to survive, as they will. technology's a means to an end, not an end itself. a tool, and tools aren't restricted to people of certain political persuasions

check Mudge's talks about working with the DoD. It's not so huge a clash, it's really a whole lot of ignorance. There's no communication between the security elements of the government and the hacker community. When people from the government agencies actually come to cons and give presentations it's REALLY cool shit.
