The Bastard would be a difficult gun to make, but mostly for the loading aspect of it. The shells sit in some kind of C springs, but the loading mechanism would have to strip them out and get them into the chamber, except that shotgun shells are rimmed. Maybe if you chamfered the edge of the C spring you could have the shell simply get pushed up and over while the spring expands to allow the rim past.
