That being said, their military was a worthwhile fighting force. It was everything else that fucked them over hard. But they were far from the best army, with the Luftwaffe only being a primary fighter force and the Kreigsmarine being nothing but U-boats after 1941 and the Wehrmacht being not clean Wehrmacht and with the Waffen SS only consisting of a few divisions of elite troops with the rest being cannon fodder.

Their aesthetics were unmatched though but that's a different discussion.

The MG42 is arguably a bad idea compared to the mg34. They both weren't so good on account of being uncontrollable and inaccurate, but the MG42 heated up a lot faster due to firing from a closed bolt whereas the mg34's open bolt allowed for better air flow through the gun while not firing.
