Uses an American engine and the most advanced electronics are Israeli, not exactly "homegrown". Twenty years ago it might have been respectable, in the current year, it is an embarrassment. If it was credible as a stepping stone design that wouldn't be so bad, but compared to the J-10, a stepping stone for Chinese military aviation, the LCA really hasn't achieved much. Yes, HAL has gained expertise over this program, but nowhere near enough to be impressive.

Every piece of technology on that jet was developed in the West, home grown indeed.

So is the shit supposed to straight up replace the Mig-21s as a dedicated interceptor or are they trying to make it a bit more versatile? Either way, they aren't cheap and they don't look particularly hawt.
