Ok /k/ help me figure out what I got here. I walked into a pawn shop and they had this thing marked as a Swedish Mauser I talked them down to 200$ for it but it doesn't really look like a Swedish Mauser and doesn't really have any markings on it. What is this thing? Should I get my money back? Is it actually just a strange Swedish Mauser?
Another picture, no markings at all the barrel sort of reminds me of a Swedish Mauser a little though
Japanese Type-I "I for India" Carcano. Made in Italy for Imperial Japanese Navy contract.

Did I get screwed on the deal here? The front barrel band is also real loose can actually slide it right off

I just wanted a shooter what's this thing shoot and what are the odds of actually being able to get ammo

6.5x50mm Semi-Rimmed Arisaka AKA "6.5 JAP".
>and what are the odds of actually being able to get ammo
I just ordered some 6.5x50SR; $125/100 cartridges.

Ammo price is up there, looks like I'm gonna be reloading for this one. Wonder if it's even worth the trouble everyone always told me carcano aren't really that fun to shoot anyway
>>34449916
It should be a fun gun.
6.5 jap is a real soft shooting round.

I think the bolt got replaced at some point it just says ROCCA and the numbers don't match so that's even stranger I guess. Probably not worth reselling so I'm gonna buy ammo
>>34449949
>ROCCA
Means the bolt was replaced during wartime by a subcontractor most likely
>>34449974
Makes sense I guess maybe it saw some use or training or something. I'm gonna order ammo and try it out thanks for the help!

I have a Type 38 Arisaka that shoots 6.5 Jap and I love it, but the Carano has a famously bad reputation. Worth trying it at least once though. I reload my 6.5mm Jap, like you said, it's too expensive to buy. Graffs has good reloading gear for 6.5mm Jap

No problem.
Id keep it its neat and pretty rare.
If not you could probably sell it for 350 pretty easy.
>>34449994
Only has a bad rep because fudds chopped them down into hunting rifles not realizing carcanos have progressive rifling.

Yeah I have a carcano I got for 30$ it's a small carbine one and it's not fun at all to shoot the bolt is horrific
