Idk man that's a real good fuckin price. The Imbel would be a type III anyways too. Old ones too, not the new shit ones Coonan is putting out

Yeah, I saw that. I'm still sticking with Imbel. I'm sure the Coonan would work just fine, but I wouldn't be happy with it. If that takes a little longer then that's fine. I won't have time to go borrow Flandre's tools to build it for a while anyway.

Is the scar17s worth getting? I would be trying to get it for $2600 or less.
If I do get it, I'm planning on getting a geiselle super scar trigger and a GG&G angled charging handle. I will probably replace the ugg boot stock with a Vltor adapter and magpul UBR stock.

Everyone fawns over it, but I'm a bit wary of the polymer lower.
I could get the Handl aluminum lower for it , but here's what I was wondering. If I get the Handl aluminum lower, that negates the weight advantage of the scar over other battle rifles. What else does the scar have going for it other than the light weight and general build quality?
>>
Are the DSA FALs worth $1000? How reliable and accurate are they?
>>
>>34449426
The SCAR 17S is the best thing going in battle rifles right now, especially if you can steal one for that low a price.
The lower is a non-stressed part; you could make it out of balsa if you wanted.
Replacing the stock is a huge waste of money unless you've shot the rifle a lot and know that the ugg doesn't work for you, personally.
An aluminum PMAG lower regains its weight advantage if you carry at least nine mags, or at least six 25-round mags, and also you don't have any room to complain about weight if you're planning on replacing the stock with a fucking UBR.
>>
>>34449464
If you can get one of the SA58s for $1000, I'd say that would be worth it. The voyagers, no. You can build an FAL for around $1000-$1500 that will be nicer than anything DSA puts out.
>>
>>34449493
Goddamn you are wrong boy.
Just like most kits and milsurp, prices be risin son.

You stupid fucks have talked shit since back when the voyager was $800. Always some bullshit reason or another.

>>
>>34449493

>>
>>34449613
>>34449623
Nigger, where did I say sub $1000? The 1-1.5k depends on what kind of kit you want to use.

You can get an Imbel:
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/664000999

Or you can get various other flavors of kits for more (there are plenty more options than just these, this is just what came up with a cursory look):
http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?t=416609
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/664075380
http://www.gunbroker.com/item/663448971

Tack on about $300-600 depending on what receiver you get. Some older Coonans popped up on the falfiles for $300 each today and you can find Imbel receivers for about $500-600. Now lets be generous and add around $200 for the various tools you'd need and say you couldn't find any used ones on the files. That gives our build total a range of about $1000-$1550 depending on the kit/receiver.

Builds certainly cost more than they used to, but they are still a better value than DSA. I'm not trying to say DSA FALs are bad, just that they're overpriced and you can do better for the same or even less and if you're willing to put in some effort. Hell, prebuilds by other people show up on gunbroker/falfiles all the time around that same price range.
>>
>>34449768
Whoops misread the price on the SLR kit which bumps up my max estimation by about $100. Still I think my overall point stands pretty well.

If I bought this CAI off a rando for $650 how many ragrettis would I have?

"Selling my CAI L1A1 Sporter. It is chambered for .308/7.62NATO. It comes with 2 mags. Has a bipod as well. It's made with surplus parts by CAI. It has an Enfield barrel. The receiver is a Argentine type III. Only takes metric mags. Condition is about 7/10. "

I can always put different furniture on it.
>>
>>34446998
So what is the difference between a battle rifle and an AR15? Is it just the round it is chambered in?

What are the benefits of owning a battle rifle over a more common AR15?

>>
>>34456429
Yeah it's the caliber. Battle rifles typically shoot .308/7.62 NATO or something similarly sized.

It has a lot to do with muh history. From a practicality standpoint you'd probably be better off with an AR15 but the much bigger round makes a much bigger boom and it's better for long range and shit.
>>
>>34456429
AR-15s are for fags.
Battle rifles are for men.
>>

Is that the same thing as .223/5.56? They are identical in size just with different pressure output so most battle rifles can fire both?

Since it doesn't seem to be one of the century made receivers, it could be ok. It could also be completely nonfunctional but at least the guy seems somewhat upfront about it. Either way, $650 would be a decent price for it as a parts kit.

.223/5.56 are the same caliber

.308/7.62x51 NATO are the same caliber

They are just referred to as .223 and .308 for 'Merica purposes and so they can be pandered as civilian/hunting rounds. 5.56 and 7.62 NATO are typically more powerful since they are usually surplus rounds.

>>
>>34456579
You like the look/history of the battle rifle you're interested in

You like the larger caliber round.

You are 1950s United States and you think anything smaller than .30-06 might as well be .22lr.
>>
>>34456579
Battle rifle can be nice for taking larger game if you're into hunting. They've also got a larger bullet with more weight to it, so it handles foliage much better and resists tumbling, whereas 5.56 is bad about tumbling if it grazes foliage.

If you're into longer distance shooting, you can squeeze some good range out of a battle rifle, though the same can be said of quality AR platforms too.
>>
>>34456553
.308 is more powerful than 7.62RFN.
>>
>>34456602
>>34456624
What x zoom do battle rifles typically reach out to that 5.56 cannot reliably perform?
>>
>>34456636
Probably farther than you can see for target shooting. For taking a man down at a distance though a battle rifle would be better.

Just bought this for 500 bucks off the most beta dude I ever met. Originally drove out to buy a dirt bike of him, dude lives like 3 hours from me and I spotted his add for the bike on CL. Once I'm there he gets to saying how his wife (just married) has demanded he sell off all his "dangerous toys" and he's real bent about it. I ask what else he's got and he says he has a few guns he already sold and his grandfathers rifle but he's gonna hide the rifle in the attic since it's an heirloom and shows me this M1. Well his wife overheard that last bit and tossed shit like I've never seen a grown women toss. Dude asks me if I wanted to buy it for 1500, I said all I had was 500 on me after buying the bike and his wife yells over his shoulder "It"s yours!".

I feel kinda bad to be honest

Dot sights on battle rifles are legit.
How occasional are we talking?
Long-range shooting is a perishable skill that might not be worth bothering with if it's not practical for you to maintain it.
You could probably get away with a really nice 1-4x instead of a mediocre 1-6x or 1-8x.
>>
>>34458408
I live on a farm and shooting the 800 meter range means asking my neighbor permission because the hill that is the backstop is technically his, and he doesn't grant permission unless his wife and kids are away from the house. So basically occasional Sunday mornings, maybe 10/year?
>>
>>34458408
I think the people who talk trash on an AR with a RDS are airsoft larpers or cod kids who want to be Mr. Based Sniper. Muh one shot one kill.

I can hit at 200 yards with a RDS, and at 300 I can keep about half the rounds on a 12 inch circle gong. Plenty accurate.
>>
Hey boys there's an Australian L1A1 for a pretty good price. I feel like I should cop it. Are there problems or things I should check before buying?
>>
>>34458440
I'm more interested in magnification for hunting. It's a lot easier to spot a deer in a thicket with magnification and the ability to manipulate the parallax.

I'm not cross shopping a 1-8x vs a 1-4x, I'm cross shopping a 1-8x vs a 3-15x or 4-16x.

I've shot deer at 200+ meters with open sights, but my eyes aren't getting younger and I never remember the binoculars.

I really like the gun as a suppressor host, way less gas in my face than with my buddy's SCAR H, and it's legal to hunt while using a supressor here.

The rifle has great accuracy potential, it was shooting just over an inch with XM80 Federal and the dot sight. A good trigger, good ammo, and more time to practice and I suspect it'll approach the half MOA claimed in the Guns.com review.
>>
>>34458841
I'd lean toward a 3-15x if you're using the scope in lieu of binos for hunting.

Can I play?

I've been wanting a Ruger gunsite scout for a while now. I would mount the scope to the rear (you're able to) completely disregarding the scout rifle concept though, I just like all the other features. Actually I just like that it's a Mauser action. Are there any better options?

Where do I buy that wood furniture? Okay, the pistol grip looks like it leaves something to be desired but the handguard gives me wood.

1. Bolt actions, by definition, aren't battle rifles.
2. If you're going to ignore the scout concept, consider the Tikka T3x Arctic, the pleb version of the Colt Canada C19.

It's mechanically functional, if that's what you're asking.
It's obviously geared toward close-quarters use, but I wouldn't want to shoot it indoors without a can and double earpro, but good luck finding a suppressor rated for an 8" .308.
It would be great if it had a slightly longer barrel, say 12" or so, but still used MP5 furniture; then it would be a handy little carbine that you could stick a Surefire forend and a collapsible stock on and use in/around vehicles and structures without too much trouble.

Sweet. Thanks ordering it on monday.
>i know its not a battle rifle.

How does the bipod stay on the handguard?
>>
>>34473080
Slides onto the part on the very end. There's little depressable metal tab that holds it in place.

>>34473109
And when i collaspes on the hanguard? How then?

The same way except the legs are also able to fold up and fit in the indents on the side of the handguard.

How does the x39 PTR compare to a -91 and an AK?
>>
>>34474767
>x39
not dae but it's heavy because they used a slightly slimmer .308 profile barrel ~10lbs

took them two tries to get the magwell right but he seems to like it

i would buy a properly proportioned 16" version which would probably save a pound and change, but they have not made one yet
