look at fire fighting gear used for better deals, some of the newer MSA stuff is CBRN rated and can use nato filters

Mask is indeed German, I recognize the eyepiece. That filter is a 40mm Israeli, probably for a civilian mask.

Israeli filters are perfectly safe, however it may be out of date as NATO nbc filters have a shelf life of 10 years.

Even if it is old, the Israelis never used anything other than carbon in their filters. If you insist on fucking around with the filter on, just look over the caps and seals. If there is any carbon dust on either then the paper holding the carbon in place might have broken and then you risk breathing that in.

Think logically, what is there more of on the planet for a country to mass produce filters from, asbestos or carbon? They need to make them as cheap as possible, and I do believe that NATO has something about acceptable filter materials as part of STANAG.

Every military canister filter from the day they were first invented has used carbon.

Asbestos was used in the pre filter stage to block partricualted and arsenic compounds but any fibers from this would be captured by the following filters. The only time asbestos is ever a threat is if the entire filter is comrimised. This is pretty fucking obvious with even a casual inspection.

As others have said, that is an Israeli issued mask/filter, likely a Draeger M15.

Luckily it uses a common filter interface so you can die slow like the rest of us (when shit goes pear shaped) with large stocks of SCBA bullshit.
