To be fair Ian is unusually taciturn and has access to a lot more info from his work.

Not to mention he can simply walk into anywhere, pick any gun, and the video will still make sense in the series which has no central theme unless he happens across a collection and videos where the gun has to be functional aren't expected of him and sometimes it makes for a more interesting video if they aren't. The AN94 was pretty much just a pully on a torched receiver, he talked about how it worked but it was completely nonfunctional.

Meanwhile Othais mainly does the research himself has to work with donations, has to have it physically shipped to him, has to get them working, has to get ammo and find physical proof it served in the frontlines somewhere with who designed it and what the context of the contract was.

Not saying Othais isn't cranky but forgotten weapons and C&Rsenal are completely different shows.

It's not a sponsorship that he needs. It's access to the private collections of fuds. Particularly for the machine guns.

1. We have plenty of access to museums for images etc. They just don't usually let you shoot anything and that's core to our mission. Collectors have been doing us pretty well so far and there's only a few rare pieces left in limbo.

2. I did an episode on how we make Primer and a lot of people said "oh that's crazy how long it takes" and when I watched it all I could think is it looked way easier in that video. I spend a LOT of time in archives, communicating with collectors and the community, and just plain reading and taking notes but it doesn't film well.

3. FW vs. C&Rsenal is a dumb argument. Ian is a hipshot master because he works remotely in back to back sessions from mostly memory I'm sure. His information accuracy rate is still incredible. THAT should be his praise over presence or personality or haircut.

Our show is slower, heavier, and more about gathering every scrap possible into the picture. Multimedia, scripted, etc. It doesn't compare well despite both being about old guns.
