A1/pencil tube, 1/9 ~1/8 twist.
Barring that, use an old M16A1 tube, keep shots inward of 300 meters.

Built this for my dad's birthday. Gotta admit its comfy as fuck for an innacity rifle.

Colt SOCOM barrel is heavy but a tack driver inside 300 yards. I'd trust my life to it.

Innadesert and I'm rolling with a 20 inch just for the velocity. Wouldn't care to be in a vehicle or building with anything past 16.

This is my fav I own (I have 5 AR's). California Highway Patrol trade in dissipator from the Clinton years (check out receiver engraving). Honestly, they all work just fine. Middy is the best of both though (light recoil/too reliability). That said, never had a failure with a carbine.

>>34439679
UGGGGh it says "restricted law enforcement/government use only" indicating it's a ban era rifle (has all the ban features)

rifle>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>carbine>middy
if your wondering why carbine is above middy its cause carbine is standardized middy is not. bunch of different gasport sizes on mid depending on brand. carbine is "overgassed" which makes it more reliable while increasing wear.

i put an m4 upper on a 16 lower in the armory the other night. it was way cooler than the reverse but a 20" with adjustable stock is better in nearly every category.

>>34441714
Mid length on 18" can often be over-gassed
If you use a lighter buffer, you should get really good reliability
Not to mention the lower recoil

>>34441944
Isn't the SPR 18" middy? If its over gassed H2 buffer should work? I heard most SOCOM M4s are meant to have a H2 buffer to support full auto anyway.
>>
I don't want to make a thread for this so i'll ask here: what difference does having a different size buffer tube make? Does it just determine the length of the buffer? Can i use a short buffer tube with 20' barrel and rifle length gas system?
>>
>>34441992
Basically. Length of the buffer and spring. You can use a carbine buffer with a rifle gas system. Look at the Canadian service rifle.
>>
>>34441969
The mk12 and most other SPRs are rifle length
If it's over gassed, yes you'll improve reliability by using an H2 or H3 buffer, but it's more reciprocating mass, so the perceived recoil will be bigger
Obviously it's not the worst case scenario, but less recoil is better than more.
There's also a little less potential for gas in the face
And yes, M4's work better with an H2 buffer

>>34441992
Rifle buffers are generally heavier and won't work in a carbine buffer tube due to the length
Generally people just use carbine buffer tubes nowadays
You can definitely use it with a 20" barrel
H2 buffers generally work
Also look into the A5 buffer tube. It's longer than a carbine, but still adjustable

Objectively the softest shooting setup if you don't want a fucklong AR and reliability isn't compromised, off yourself you utter mong.
