convince me out of buying a scout rifle for 100 yard deer hunting
>>
its an excuse to buy a steyr scout
>>
>>34438022
Have you handled the rifle?

The metal magazine is pretty clunky. Get a 5 rounder and it's a great rifle for durr.
>>
>>34438090
I poked at one, I didn't really notice anything out of the ordinary with the mag

I've been debating between the Scout and the Tikka T3.

Winchester model 94 would be better
>>
>>34438368
Hey you misspelled JM stamped Marlin 336.
>>
>>34438022
I'm looking at picking up one in .308 for elk desu famalam
>>
I've had one of these on my wishlist for some time now. One of the few southpaw bolts I can find in this kind of setup
>>
>>34438159
The trigger guard and mag well are plastic I'm not sure I want to use metal mags long term and scratch it to shit. Besides you can (supposedly) load from the top with the ruger brand plastic ones, personally I use the magpul ones.
>>
>>34438022
A nice Marlin .30-30 will do you at a better price and leave room for a nice 4x. Maybe a Leupold VX-1.
>>
It looks fun but you'd be better off with a regular bolt action. Plus some places don't allow high capacity magazines for hunting.
>>
>>34438921
You can get smaller magazines for it.
>>
>>34438022

>push feed
>>
>>34438159
The polymer magazines are lighter, that's all.

I've got the international/canadian version without the flash hider. Great little brush gun and will be perfect for durr.
>>
>>34438282

Deer hunting? or game bigger than deer?

Both are great rifles. Buy the ones that fits your needs, feels the comfiest, and in a proper calibre.

I mean, you have a right to be wrong.
>>
>>34439224
They even make rails for Marlin receivers, so you can put an RDS on your levergat if you want.
>>
>>34438022
get a mossburgh, you'll regret ever buying a ruger.

you expecting the deer to shoot back or something?

May not be legal to hunt durr with a 5.56 where you are.

Mine has an antique Weaver flip-away mount on it.
>>
>>34439224
>more complex
Same amount of moving parts and ejection has been changed for decades now so you can put normal scopes
>>
>>34439301
They also come in 308 and 450 bush.
>>
>>34439316
Half the action still pops out of the rifle, and even with the angled ejection you need a side-mount. You can put scope rings right onto the much more durable receiver of a marlin.
>>
bought one in 308, put like 400 rounds through it and ran around in the woods with it for like two years. Sold it in order to get a 16 inch black version.
>>
>>34439445
did you get the green one? lol

>>34439477
yes it was green 18 inch. Interestingly it got rained on lightly like half a dozen times and was fine but A HANDFULL OF HOURS in one of these bags produced visible rust on the flash hider.
>>
>>34439397
If your preference is a marlin go for it but you are not going to be hotrodding 30-30 for that to be relevant unless you gobfor the improved akley in which case you still aren't going to be able to fit enough powder to make use of it.
>>
>>34439547
>Mine's a 1950 .35 Rem tackdriver my Grandpa took a great many deer with
Hey, you can have your bad opinions all you want, the 336 is a better design
>>
>>34438022

Get a Mossberg MVP

Those take AR mags
>>
>>34439617
If you want to talk about the best lever action the Savage 99 is the most superior, Marlins and Winchesters are pretty much similar in terms of limitations for their intended use.

>>
>>34439923
For the price of a Savage 99 and 200 rounds of ammo I could get a semi auto .308. Marlins and Winchesters are at least cheap.
>>
>>34439995
Hey man, if we're talking about taste money should be no object.
>>
>>34439543
>A HANDFULL OF HOURS in one of these bags produced visible rust on the flash hider.

probly cause the bag is airtight so the moisture has nowhere to go, so your gun just sits in a foggy bag
>>
>>34438022

A No5 Enfield, loaded with 220 grain soft points will do just as well, and cost less. While still being a superb piece of history, easily handed down to your offspring as a fully functional treasured heirloom.

Not at all slighting Ruger, as I used to work for them, but ..Yeah.
No5 Enfield. ..
Pretty fucking cool bro.
>>
>>34438978
Gunsite rifle may as well be push feed too. M77 actions are hit-and-miss as to whether they will pick up and control the cartridge. Some don't completely. Some will at random.
>>
>want to go durr huntin'

>>
>>34440106
Can you hunt with 10 round mags?
>>
>>34440106

No1 SMLE. Unless granpap's Springyfield is a '20's double heat-treat. Then use it, but sparingly, cause it's a treat.
>>
>>34440140
don't see why not, baught up all the ones at a gunshow I could find, have six total
>>
>>34440156

>>
>>34440143
not sure it is, he landed at Normandy with it and survived the war. a treat it would be indeed.
>>
>>34440156
Some states/hunts dont allow it so I would make sure before you run into the DNR, if you can enfield all the way.
>>
>>34440172

With a M1903? Unlikely.

Nvm, some fuck went around and asked almost every vendor before I could for Lee Enfield mags, even bought a fucking picture.

Cleared out fucking everyone who werent asking for 50 bucks.

Gotta admit I'm mostly jealous instead of mad that I didn't come up with the idea myself.
>>
>>34440222
not dickish enoth to pull that, baught first three the first time and the last three the second time, since could only find one vendor who had them. also picked up his bags of 303 British.
>>

No3 or No4 mags?

I have a ton of No4 mags, and can tell you how to make No4 mags from BREN mags.

BREN mags (at least here) are half the price of No4 LE mags.

You could buy a Century C308 for less, its semi auto, you can buy it in different colors, if you don't want to use it just for deer hunting, you can use it for something else, it can take drum mags and not just a clunky 10 round magazine, and its a good deer caliber. But if you don't want a semi auto, then I'd suggest the T/C Dimension.

>>
>>34439722
This might be a fudd question, but why would you want AR mags for deerhunting?
>>
>>34441384
They're cheap, available everywhere, and you can get them from 3 round, pinned flush fits all the way to 100 round drums and 60 round coffins. Why WOULDNT you want AR magazines in a 5.56?
