I got a French beyonet from 1877 and was wondering what the proper cutting - thrusting technique is with it. I'm not that good with blades and this one has a ridge type thing on the back of the blade so I was wondering if it had a certain way to use it (off a gun).
It's for stabbing. All bayonets are primarily for stabbing.

I know, but it has an edge.
>>34434974
It's not that sharp. I have the same model. You pretty much just use it for stabbing the enemy.
t. person who mainly collects french guns.
>>34434974
That's to help it stab better.
>>34435020
My grandfather sharpened them to try and prevent us from selling them.
Swords are eternal
>>34434954
don't play with it, it's worth some money
>>34435155
still worth money. buy a 5 pack of machetes from sg for $25 if you want something to swing around.
>>34435183
Nice katana! Personally I want to get a khopesh.
>>34435204
I'm not cutting anything and we're not selling them, I'm just saving money by practicing with them until I can get the blade I want.
>>34435218
don't "practice" with them, you will invariably hit a lamp or woodwork, and anything you learn from that won't transfer to your dreams of being a charioteer.
Repeatedly stab the motherfucker until he dies, duh.
>>34435263
empty room with nothing to hit. Totally gonna break a lamp. I'm just trying to get edge alinement down so I can get a straight cut.
>>34434954
It's a an Mle 1874 bayonet for the Mle 1874 Gras rifle. It's for stabbing only.
>>34434974
Mine is dull except for the point.
>>34435155
Well, that explains it. He hurt the value of it a lot.
>>34435585
There's 2...
>>34435263
>you will invariably hit a lamp or woodwork
This happened to me.
>>34434954
stab them them with the pointy end
>>34435605
Neat. What are the makers?
>>34435634
No shit, but my hand wobbles when I extend my arm for the "poke". If the "poke" is shakey then it won't go deep.

Kenny, that better not be you
>>34435673
Please don't start me sir, we all have our opinions.
>>34435703
Ty, the next one is a bitch but I'm going to try something to get what's on it visible, tho not on it...
>>34435703
Well I can't get it but I'll give u a pic and see if you can figure it out. The year on this one is 1880
>>34434954
I was visiting my aunt's one day when I found out they had this weird room dedicated to a voyevoda relative who fought in the Ruso-Turkish wars of 1877. This was literally hanging on the wall...
>>34435808
Those are Yatagan bayonets for the Martini-Henry rifles the Turks used. Those were captured and used by the Bulgarian rebels
>>34435808
Nice. My grandfather came over one random day last year and gave me nazi pants that my great grandfather looted off a nazi he killed, they are the best hunting pants I ever had.
>>34435766
Neat. That says Paris-Oudry; a commercially contracted firm. An uncommon Gras bayonet.
>>34435874
W8... uncommon... how much money does that mean? My parents want to buy a few acres so if it is worth enough my dad might sell it and both our houses.
>>34435858
get any nazi undies for you to wear too?
>>34435895
Maybe $200 or so. You said your grandfather sharpened them. That will hurt the value some. It's also a Gras bayonet so there are tons of them out there on the market so even the rarer pieces won't be worth an astronomical amount.
>>34435920
No, but we did have a gewer for a bit, then my dad gave it away to his sister who needed a gun bc of a farm.
>>34435936
Oh. I found another interesting thing on the easy one to i.d. Not sure what it means but here's a pic of it. It says "y 46" on it and it's holster. I think that is its id. Can one figure out its story based on that?
>>34435987
It's the serial number of the blade which also matched the rifle it was assigned to. It's not a Y. That's not a valid prefix the French used. It might be an L. Hard to tell from your pic.
>>34436049
I'll get a better one.
>>34436079
Probably an L.
>my L series Mle 1936 rifle
>>34436110
Ty, Srry I'm asking so many questions.
>>34436356
It's no problem. I enjoy sharing knowledge.

>>34435766
I love the old timey handwriting on the old French stuff. They should do it more on today's gun.
>>34436690
I'm 19 but the housing prices around here are fucking mad.
>>34436766
Nah, it wouldn't feel right. The handwrighting makes it feel more antique, decorated, old fashioned, exc. it wouldn't feel right on a modern ar
