Literally browse gunbroker.

I've seen like 2-3 WASRs a week go for under $500.
Lots of people/stores bought them years ago and don't really know what they're currently worth.
Got one last month for $400 flat.

If you buy a RAS47 you will regret it for the rest of your (shorter) life.

>Started collecting mosins at age 14

>Love everything about them
>Become disillusioned as the price of ammo rose and I began to see them more as weird fudd rifles like m1903s and enfields
>Sell/Trade off most of my collection
>Down to two fairly rare/collectible pieces, an M91 and an ex-dragoon in artic birch stock

>Meet a local AK builder, great guy that does super high-quality work and is known all over my state
>When I was picking up some ammo from him on a trade I saw a beautiful Rommy G kit build that looked like it was made from heaven itself
>He said he's considering selling it for $600
>I bet he'd take my last two rare/pretty mosins in trade

I just can't decide whether to pull the trigger on it or not.
I used to love my mosins but now that ammo costs about the same as shooting my legitimate .270 hunting rifle I can't feel the same magic I used to, running around with my 100 year old used-to-be-cheap boomsticks.

Well, M91s regularly go on GB for $350-400, pretty ex-dragoons usually go for around $270-280, and I've got 880 rounds of 7.62x54r.
I've seen generic ass 1943 91/30s go for $250+ in our local area.

He may not because he may not want any more mosins, but it wouldn't be because the trade value was lacking.

AUG confirmed /akg/ related
>>
>>34421242
Yeah I know.
That one has a mixture of early communist and imperial russian stamping, with a tang date of 1916 and a barrel date of 1925.
Which means it was originally issued during WW1, damaged, sent back to the factory to be fixed, and the commies took the factory before it could be pressed back into service.

The other one is a 1914 M91 with early arshin sight and a scrubbed barrel, meaning it was likely used in the balkans (also doesn't have an import mark, which is weird).

I'm not really trying to sell, and I'm only considering trading because the guy's Rommy G kit build is beautiful, he's easy to get along with, and he's locally famous for his build quality.

I'm not even sure if I want to make him the offer, considering he could just decide he's got enough mosins and 7.62x54r and say no.
>>
>>34421231
>and I've got 880 rounds of 7.62x54r.

wow a crate, I've got 20.
>>
>>34421231
>Mosin food is as expensive as .270
Either you're shooting some cheap ass .270 or overpaying for your 7.62x54r
>>
>>34421302
I never sell or trade my guns because I remember I got it for a reason, I liked it. I don't let myself get too hot over a shiny rifle enough to let go some of my collection for it. I've done it once and I still think about it and wish I just saved up the money instead. You don't miss your collection at all? Why not just save up $600? if you don't give a shit about them I guess go ahead, but don't do it then miss your mosins.
>>
>>34421308
.270 win is usually 54ish cents a round, new prices on 7.62x54r are at 45-50ish cents a round (even for surplus).

>>34421306
The point being my offer would have been worth quite a bit more than $600.

>>34421326
You're right.
I'll come back to it in August or September with cash and see if he's still got it.
>>
>>34421338
If you know him well enough or hell even not you can always politely tell him that you really like that rifle but don't have the cash for it right now, but i'll buy it when I have it he might hold onto it for you. You're gonna think back years from now wishing you held onto that rifle you got when you were 14 or whatever. Of course unless there comes a time where you really need the money then do what you gotta do.
>>
>>34421136
I bought a MISR S/A for $400 a few months ago.

People don't know what AKs are worth at all anymore. They tend to severely over- or underprice them now with no middle ground.

>I don't like how huge it is

Yeah, I was looking at the mini or micro for mine. Might just order both and try them out.

Ended up getting the high rail since I don't really have any use for a fixed 3x optic and if I mounted a red dot on top I'm looking at an adam's apple weld. I'm going to throw a t-2 on it and play around with different height riser mounts, might order the extended rail so I can just use regular ar15 riser mounts.

>>both of us make statements
>>for some reason I'm the only one that has to prove it

He's referring to actual data gathered by guys that keep track of their rental guns. Not a whole lot of additional proof required, unless you think BFV is bullshitting their roundcounts to fuck with people on the internet for absolutely no monetary gain.

You're presenting the counter-argument, so the burden of proof naturally falls on you.
>>
>>34425291
One resource isn't a test... You have no idea how many actual rounds have been through the rifle and how quickly it happened. I don't think they're bullshitting but using a rental range as a gauge is not exactly reputable.

Whatever people rent the most often is probably going to shit out.

We aren't "technically" allowed to have guns in our dorms, except for concealed carry, either but I've never met an anti-gun person here ever.

It's a sort of wink-wink nudge-nudge thing like UT with weed; it's """""technicallly"""""" against the rules but everyone and their momma does it and you'd never get called on it unless they were already busting you for something bigger.
>>
>>34425847
Yeah It was Vince, wish I had bought more mags while they were still coming in. I'm hurting for some plum 5.45's.

I could probably get away with having a gun in my dorm considering the RA's aren't allowed to search anything, they can only report whats in plain view. But if they caught you here with a gun in your room, you would for sure get kicked out and probably get felony charges for illegally having a gun on a college campus.

>you would for sure get kicked out and probably get felony charges for illegally having a gun on a college campus.
Texas passed campus carry though.
Half the people I know have concealed carry licenses and carry to class.
It's weird that two colleges in the same state can have such different cultures.

Why'd you leave Cstat for Austin?
>>
>>34426057
You can conceal carry on campus, but you can't keep a gun in on-campus housing. It was explained to us on the first day. The pussy RA's were like "If you see a gun, call the police immediately". I carry a knife every day though.

I chose to go to UT because their Computer Science program is really good. My permanent address is still in Cstat though.

Ok, I'm not totally retarded then. I thought you were in WA too tho for some reason

So first my Klesch seemed fine, I had enough ammo to magdump 10 rounds and it handled getting bounced around real fast pretty well, I'd just say check your screw I guess cause mine doesn't like catchin the threads a whole lot. Maybe some loctite too

For the pad, the 800 setting works well close but I couldn't seem to get it to work far, 900-1000 I think is better for it

I'm trading rifles with a guy in texas.

To my understanding I can ship the rifle to his FFL myself through USPS. Though Google said I needed a copy of the dealers signed FFL license to ship it.

I was in my local gunstore to find a nice unmarked box to ship it in that they had lying around and asked the guy about it. He said I need to ship it FFL to FFL only, but this is a really Fudd shop who probably doesn't know the actual laws.

So which is it? I don't need the ATF shooting my doggo
>>
>>34427758
Individuals can ship to an FFL but not all FFLs will accept from an individual, or send their FFL info to an individual.
>>
>>34427758
In state: ship person to person
Out of state: you ship to his FFL if they accept from individuals. Include a copy of your DL for them
>>
>>34427758
Just make sure the FFL information he gave you is current and active. You can check on the ATF's website to see if their license is valid and always double check addresses. Then when you ship, include a photocopy of your drivers license and you're golden.

Lots of mushrooming and bad things.

O-pap were surplus built and fine.
N-pap are new production and the metal is just generally softer/weaker.

You can see it in this picture. It's right behind the latch, right where the receiver terminates. It seems to give clearance for the extra large rung on the folding stock. I also need to have the rearmost rivets flattened. Both for aesthetics and practicality. They need to be flat for the real 74M stock to fold all the way.

The rest is just barrel work. Not even gonna mess with the receiver markings because they're so delightfully subtle.

Even pre-2007 WASRs were only bad by relatively high standards.
A fixable cant and mag wobble aren't horrible issues.

Compared to the "bad AKs" of today (RAS, OI, Etc...) the "bad AKs" of yesteryear were hard charging tanks.

Do you guys jam the cleaning rod down the barrel starting at the muzzle or starting at the receiver? My SLR-104's instruction manual says to start at the muzzle, but that just seems wrong.
>>
>>34430793
Go ahead and try to do it from the receiver.
We'll wait.

>>34430684
Get an Arsenal SLR 107R for the 7.62x39 train. $850 for arguably the best quality factory built AK at that price point.

Got one coming next week. Gotta search around for a 74 furniture set so I can take off the black polymer set. I got two polish blacks coming in the meantime as well for $35 shipped. Been wanting to see how the plastic was on those mags anyway.

He's texted me pics and it's got a shitty polymer stock and everything, but idk.

WASRs are alright rifles and everything; they're just beaters compared to gucci saigas.

i bought an npap /akg/ did i fuck up? in CA so we get price gouged on AKs (LGS sells RAS47s for $749 "on sale") and it's hard to find new compliant stuff at a reasonable price. the npap came to around $520 after rebate/taxes/fees etc. was going to hold out for a WASR but the bottom dollar on Cali approved ones is $749 before taxes/fees/etc. I know the npap can have some peening/mushrooming issues so i bought an akt to replace the tapco/century shit trigger that comes with it
>>
>>34431318
>I know the npap can have some peening/mushrooming issues so i bought an akt to replace the tapco/century shit trigger that comes with it
Then you're fine.
>>
>>34431318
The akt will do it too. Its really a non issue though. The tail will mushrrom a bit and then stay that way. It doesnt continually get worse.
>>
>>34431204
In that case, aren't you supposed to clean breech-to-muzzle? That's the way I cleaned my Maadi, but I also just use a USGI segmented rod instead of the included combloc kit, so maybe the design dictates it be done a different way.
