This changes absolutely nothing in practice. Their tight gun laws remain the same, with the same heavy restrictions. The government can still add more restrictions or ban any gun they want at any time. As long as there is at least one gun that's not banned yet, they could still argue that their right to bear arms isn't infringed, technically speaking.

tl;dr : it's fucking nothing, as the Czech republic already had something similar written in their constitution, it's just some political com, and since it's coming from a leftist party, it tells you a lot about it. This is nothing like the US' 2nd amendment. It doesn't say, anywhere, in it's Czech wording, that it gives the right to bear arms to it's CITIZENS.

This amendment is a political gesture as much as it is a manouvre against the EU. With 300 000 gun owners all over the political spectrum, there's not one specific group that only owns guns, thats one thing. Furthermore, EU initially made the Czech Republic give up its extremely profitable sugar factories, we're not going to lose our firearms industry the second time in 20+ years.

This whole thing exists only to protect the current gun law. You still have to dish out shitton of money for the permit form, then pass the medical and psychological examinations, pass the theoretical test (usually 74 points outta 80) and pass the practical, where one mistake disqualifies you for like 6 months. You also have to pass first aid.

Even when you get the permit, you have to get permission from the police to purchase a gun.

Actually, the commie party in Czechoslovakia won because of the Czechs. It was the Slovaks that kept trying to defend democracy since commies meant a ban on religion and while Czechs welcomed getting rid of religion, Slovaks would have none of that.
