I want to upgrade my Remington 870 to look like pic. can anyone tell me/ guess what the barrel length is and the tube extension?

>>34409207
Heh, hehe, heh, ahahahahaha.

I hope you have about $1000 dollars lying around, because that's how much that bayonet adapter will cost you. Last one I saw sold for $700.

Blame Remington collectors for the skyrocketing prices, I once found a forum where a guy was posting his collection of tube extensions and bayonet lugs for the 870 mk1.

The fucking autistic POS had literally 7 bayonet lugs and was telling people that he paid between $300-$450 for each one.

I can understand owning 2, but once you get to the point of autism that he suffered from, it's just ruining it for everyone else, inflating the market, and potentially making it impossible for anyone to ever own one.

Imagine if he died one day, his family is going through his shit and finds all these weird steel blocks, the tweaker nephew then takes them to the scrap yard and gets $2.38 for what are literal unicorn military issue 870 attachments
>>
>>34409207
20" barrel. You will never find the front barrel clamp/bayonet for under $400, unless you get seriously lucky. They eventually pop up though.

-Take a hammer and punch, and knock out the front site.... LOL

Seriously. If you own one, you can send to to Wilson Combat to get it tricked out, but it's expensive.
Or you can buy a side saddle, pistol grip stock, and extended magazine, aftermarket, and do it yourself. See YouTube for tips.
Or, if you love the Military look/Bayonet lug, just buy a Mossberg 590A1. 9 shot, and has bayonet lug. I have one, they are great. The only thing I would do is add a Vang Comp Velcro side saddle.

This is definitely going to be my next shotgun. Got any thoughts on the stock furniture vs wood?
>>
>>34410421
wood is worse than the stock furniture in everyway except aesthetics. and theres so many grades of furniture its its hard to say how nice the wood will be.

>>34410421
>Got any thoughts on the stock furniture vs wood?

What context?
>>
>>34410483
Literally just aesthetics. Ive seen the modern "trench gun" 590a1s people have made but I don't know if it'll hold up over time. I'm not talking about like beating the shit out of it every day, but just like general longevity.
>>
>>34410540
>general longevity
woods good enough to outlive you but if you beat it up it will look like shit pretty quickly
>>
>>34410572
Cool. This is kind of what I want to do, but I want to match the wood with the checkering on another on of my guns with the fleur de lis prints.

590 Poster here. back after watching Naked and Afraid XL on DVR...
When the gun is dirty, sometimes the shells jam. For a Pistol immediate action in Tap Rack Bang. For a Shotgun "Tap" usually means smashing the buttstock on the ground while pulling on the fore end. I have seen Wood stocks Break in half. The Synthetic stocks stand up to the abuse. -and the M590A1 comes (one model) with a speedfeed stock that holds more ammo

I have a Winchester SXP for my first shotty, I put a few rounds through it and really like so far, but I'm still stuck between getting a Moss 590A1 or the 870...

I'm leaning more between the Moss simply for the bayonet and ergonomic pieces like the safety and the ejector that can be shot down instead of the side.

-Hiking/camping(for big game)
-range

2 3/4, Birdshot/target/gameload

Dont limit yourself to any particular ammunition, the purpose of the shotgun is to fill many roles

its best to keep as many differnt types of rounds around.

extended safety a must, extended action slide release a must with pistol grip. broom stick bad idea, rails bite too hard on fore grip but the weight is good so they will get covers or something. somehow cheap reflex holds up. 20" barrel threaded for chokes makes this shotgun useful, as opposed to 18" no choke drywall slayer meme cannons.

Getting a Mossberg 590A1 later this month, should I go for the 20" or 18.5", I'm pretty noob to a shotgun but I figured the 18.5" would serve me well if shtf and some shitter snuck into my house. As I understand it, the choke has a bigger effect on the spread/pattern?

Any good HD loads? I'm a bit worried 00 buck will over penetrate, but, should I bet my life on smaller loads?

This is not primary HD, I'd like to go to the range, maybe some skeet shooting, not sure about actual game hunting though, I'd need to learn how first.
>>
>>34425020
It is my understanding that a 12ga will lose approx. 1 decibel of muzzle blast per inch of barrel length, if that matters to you. Then there's the extra ammo capacity...

Use #1 buck for inside the house.
>>
>>34425020
20"

You get more rounds for not a lot more in length
>>
>>34425047
>>34425068

i prefer the capacity that comes with the 20"...if you haven't handled one yet, the a1 is quite front-heavy, the 18.5" has better balance

>choke has a bigger effect on the spread/pattern?
correct, hit up youtube for choke-pattern info...i wasn't aware mossberg offered an a1 barrel w/ screw-in chokes, though

>Any good HD loads? I'm a bit worried 00 buck will over penetrate
any substantial buckshot load will pass through 1-2 layers of drywall, same applies to most rifle/handgun loads....any load of #4 buckshot, or larger, between 1300-1600fps will penetrate multiple layers of clothing and easily reach the depth of vital organs, at HD distances
..my preference is high-velocity 00 buck, there are plenty of differing opinions regarding 00 for HD

So I've been looking at/handling shotguns basically not really knowing what I want, but I've been gravitating toward the 590 and 870s like just about everyone else.

590s seem to be light compared to 870s and have that kickass tacticool model with the ghost ring sight, but the price of those in particular, even on used examples is excessive for a pump shotgun. What I want is an 870 with a full length magazine like the 590A1 tacticool model, but with the receiver drilled so it can have fun sights besides the bead, too.

What are my choices here? Classic blue/wood is just fine in my book, and the 870 just seems to have a pinch more quality/weight to it. I handled the Persuader and some HD models, but they didn't have drilled receivers that could accept a sight modification.
>>
>>34428316
If you want a new manufactured 870 that isn't garbage then buy the police model. They're strengthened and can be bought NIB off of gun broker for $600
>>
>>34428316
I don't even. You're the only person that thinks the 870 has more quality. Personally I think the mossberg is worth the extra money. But that's me. Whatever floats your goat
>>
>>34428357
>I don't even. You're the only person that thinks the 870 has more quality.

It's probably a side effect of handling different used examples. Some were probably a lot worse than others, and a lot of the 590A1s were beat to shit.
>>
I know the differences between the 590 and 590A1, but is there any reason to buy a 590 over the 590A1 other than price?

other than cost the same looking 590 will be lighter than the 590a1
590 does not have the thick military heavy barrel just has the same barrel as a normal 500 barrel with the additional bayonet lug the other weight savings would be the plastic trigger group.
then again if you want the 590a1 you want the heavy barrel and metal trigger group. thats the exact reason your getting it. so theres no real benefit other than cost.
>>
>>34428550
Ok, cool. I don't make a big deal over plastic or metal trigger guards on shot guns.

Are there any advantages of a heavy barrel other than being stronger.
>>
>>34428570

>>
>>34428596
Would it take longer to get hot as well?
>>
>>34428611
Yeah, but you gotta work a shotgun hard to get it hot enough to do anything
>>
>>34428398
While the 590A1 is a great shotgun. Personally, I find some of the features on it moot for civilian use, like the metal trigger guard and heavy barrel. It adds more weight and make it handle a little worse.

Based on that, I would take the regular 590 if I were you unless you plan on going into combat or you're going to absolutely beat the living shit out of it.
>>
>>34428550
>>34428654
Thanks anons. I was tempted to buy the 590A1, but I think I'll save a little weight and order the regular 590 instead. Thank you.

plenty of people say that Remington is the go too for a good shotun. Ive handle quite a few and they are quite a bit better than mossbergs. Ive had mossbergs break on me after a few rounds and i even saw one fall apart after two shots. Every remington ive had just works.

not to mention Remingtons just look better.

Is the new Ithaca making M37 shotguns? If they are how come I'm not seeing any at big box stores like Cabela's, Bass Pro etc?
>>
>>34428884
Inland is actually making them in colab, they are small numbers and expensive. You would be better off ordering one from LGS or waiting around for a Ithaca that has been sitting in a office since the 70s to pop-up on armslist.

if you want it to look clean, pay 1200$, if you want ithaca to have an ithaca go on armslist and pay around 300$...sometimes up 600$.
>>
>>34428982
I wasn't referring to the limited edition reissue trench gun. I'm talking about basic models like the defense gun, deer slayer etc. Why they don't have new guns in gun stores or big box stores.
>>
I want to get an ithaca 37 (12 gauge) to transform into a kickass bushgun which would look like a GI issue as much as I can make it.

I sometimes find ithaca 37s being offered, but they all have chokes, which I do not want as I want to be able to fire slugs too.

My question is, since I am guessing that they are integrated chokes based on the pictures I've seen, is it realistic to saw off an inch or however long the choke is from the tip of the barrel, then expect it to work just like a non-choke shotgun would?

Plz no bully. Also I probably wouldn't do this "conversion" myself, I am just asking out of curiosity.

Most M37s came with Improved Cylinder chokes with is the universal standard for running 00 Buck and Slugs.

Good luck getting the heatshiedl with bayonet lug though. They're expensive. If you want something like a Trench Gun then you're in luck. Inland Manufacturing teamed up with Ithaca to reproduce the Vietnam era M37 shotguns that were being used. They're around $1,200 new.

>I've heard bad things about extended shottie mags.
Is that why so many people use them?
>>
>>34429098
That's why you use a magazine clamp to keep the tube from backing out.
>>
>>34429081
Are you saying that the chokes in M37s are not a problem for shooting slugs? I've been told that any sorr of choke means no-go for slugs.
I'm sorry for the autism, but this is my first foot in the water with shotguns after being only into rifles for so long.
>>
>>34429163
No. A Choke is how loose or tight the end of the muzzle is and how it affects the spread pattern. Most shotguns use Improved Cylinder, which means you can shoot pretty much everything for it.
>>
>>34429163

foster and brenneke slugs are OK for chokes, sabot and copper solids are a no go.

that being said, even if they are safe, you will still see a detriment to accuracy firing slugs through a choke.
>>
>>34429004
same reason, low numbers and exspensive.

>>34429050
Just buy a old crusty one and cut the barrel down. If you want one you will want one for a bush gun you will want it short anyway.

>>34429081
are you retarded, you can buy a new manufactured bayonet lug and heat shield in the white for 130$. Not to mention the ones used in vietnam were pretty much all riot versions and didnt have heatshields or bayonet lugs.

>>34429163
not all chokes actually choke.

this is pretty much everything you need to know.

>>

seriously can anyone help? this is only a slight exaggeration. What should I put on my gun to stop this until I can get it cerakoted. The remington dry lube didnt stop it.
>>
>>34425020
Get the 18.5. Sure, the 20 inch holds more rounds but in a defensive context, it would be rare that you will require 6 rounds of 00 buck to stop a threat and the biggest negative to a shotgun is really the length and diminshed maneuverability.

This is an INCREDIBLY informational video on defensive shotgun use. You're doing yourself a bad thing if you do not watch this.

There's a pistol-grip Mossman 500 at my local pawn shop. It's got the full-length mag tube and a heat shield. I believe it's the Persuader.

I've seen it a hanging up there for a little while, but suddenly I'm actually finding it appealing, just for the sheer fuckery of it. Also I've this weird glitch where I want two of everything, with slight variations. I've already got a pretty decent sporting 500 (wood, long barrel, choke tubes) so this would be a "social shotgun" 500. I figure I could swap in a conventional stock for serious business if needs be.

Is it worth it for the giggles? What's a decent price for these things?
