I'm probably going to buy a surplus gas mask but I don't know which ones are actually safe to wear. Are there any €25 ones on this website that'd be good? http://www.wapenhandelpodevijn.be/militaria.html
If the filters contain asbestos it should still be safe to wear it without filter, right?
>>34408099
Yeah safe without filters.
Do not to trust Russian filters, info on models using asbestos is vague at best.
Get something in 40mm thread
Get NATO filters

bumping
>>34408099
Anything that uses 40mm is good because you can always just swap the filters with new ones.
>>34408099
Without the filter it is fine.
Most of the ones on that site are old enough to have either asbestos or chromium both of which will fuck your lungs sideways. Those are collectors masks, not really for actual wear. eBay is a far better source of wearable masks. Modern German, Czech, Israeli, and the US M40 and MCU-2 can be found for less than 50 USD. All of them, accept the Czech, accept 40mm NATO filters and as long as those filters are new, they are just fine, would stay away from stuff older than 2000.

Do any of those masks on the site have 40mm thread? Would be neat if I could screw on new filters.
>>34408248
Sadly, no. All of those are before STANAG enforced 40mm across all NATO nations. You could get some fittings and ghetto rig a 60mm to 40mm adapter for the M9a1, but considering that mask is as old as the Korean war, it isn't a mask to be seriously used. They would look nice on a shelf, but the seal simply isn't there any more.

If that Czech one has sealed filters, that is all you really need, plus it has a drinking tube, I would guarantee a good seal, and functionality for a pretty great price.
If a US citizen (I think gas masks are covered under ITAR shit so don't want to ship abroad), I have a US surplus M40 for sale. Medium. Has the carrying bag and a filter, though it's expired.
$44.99 plus $10 shipping, have coupon code which will knock some of that off, GA buyers have to pay sales tax. If someone wants it leave an email because I don't like being a spammy tard.

What model is that?

What's a good place to buy new condition 40mm filters? I have an Israeli gas mask that I trust but seems there's lots of scammers out there selling old shit on Amazon.
>>34410776
eBay has never given me shit, and worse case scenario, the way selling things on eBay goes, the buyer is always right, so you will 80% of the time get your money back if it isn't what you ordered or it is in fucked up quality for what was listed.
Israeli shit, still vacuumed packed is going to be the cheapest thing in the best condition. US C2 filters are everywhere, still sealed and cheap, but you run the risk of getting FUBARed with chromium.

The guy isn't entirely wrong. Some of the Soviet filters used asbestos, and they look very similar to other filters. Even if they are carbon, most are ancient by filter standards that I would not trust beyond some larping around the house, the quality of Soviet manufacturing and degradation is enough to instill serious doubt.
NATO filters are the best you are going to get as milsurp, if not a 40mm adapter for 3M filters.

I sort of agree with you that there are some filters which used asbestos but not the newer ones.
And what do you mean ancient? Have you actually seen their constructions compared to modern filters or are you one of those "I just know it" people.
>>34411104
asbestos could have been the greatest thing ever honestly if it weren't toxic when it entered your lungs lol
its fireproof
extremely cheap
fantastic insulator
>>34408359
Don't use porkchop filter masks for anything but riot control agents at this point, you cannot get unexpired filters for these masks anymore.
Don't use any russian masks, because their 40mm is not the same as NATO/STANAG 40mm, they will not accept western filters/hoses.

It can really do anything....no one thought cancer fell under anything but it does.
>>34411691
the expiry date is a commercial thing
they mainly put it on safety products for a few logical reasons
>constant replacement
>new technology coming out constantly so it becomes outdated
its not because it becomes unusable
I know this specifically because I've used the m10m with carbon filters and they do work
