I haven't been on /k/ in years. I used to have over 20 guns and shitpost every day here. I sold them all after a financial crisis and now I want a pistol because I have nothing. I'm pretty much solely interested in getting a makarov. What make and model should I look into? I don't want to end up buying shit that will suck.
The Cabelas by me has an Arsenal MFG Makarov in 9x18 in their gun library for $330. Should I maybe just get that?

This is your best option currently. I bought mine from them, very happy with it.

It's out of stock
Any mak is good, but E. Germans are generally considered best.

What? Look again, man.
Only the black handgrips are out of stock. Get the red bakelite.

Get a hand select Bulgy from classic firearms. Shame maks are so expensive now.

Makarovs fucking suck
Get something in 9mm Luger like everyone else

When the fuck did Makarovs become expensive?
>>34406714
Maks don't suck.

How good is a Makarov really? I've heard stories of their legendary reliability, surpassing even the myths of the AK. Why shouldn't I satisfy my steel surp gun fetish by spending the same $300 on a surplus FS92?

Supply is drying up.

Makarovs are stupid reliable.

Their only problems are that they're kind of hefty for their size, and that the 9x18 cartridge is anemic even for a pistol cartridge.

It's hotter than 380 and defense loads are up to 9x19 ball.
Maks don't suck.

It's a dead simple design and it's very robust in it's all steel construction. I'm half convinced that I could load the magazine with rocks and it would still go bang when I pulled the trigger.
That said it's still a heavy single-sack blowback that's outclassed by any decent modern gun, especially when you consider how much they cost now.

They're accurate and reliable but also heavy and low capacity. To put it into perspective they're closer in size and weight to a 4" 1911 than they are to most modern .380 or 9mm compacts.

Even good defensive loads from Underwood and Buffalo Bore fail to meet the FRI standard.
Maks are great guns, but 9x18 isn't that great.
