That seems a little steep for a .223 Saiga, if it was in 7.62x39 it would maybe be worth it. I managed to get a converted Saiga in 5.45x39 for $600 a few weeks ago from my LGS, then again I think got pretty lucky.

Do it, prices are not going down anytime soon. If you want to use pre ban mags you just need to install a bullet guide which is like 10 bucks. If finding pre ban ask mags is hard since it's a .223 you could get the ar15 magazine converter.
