I miss my 100 dollar Nuggets

when has anyone ever said that? mosins just got a bit of a reputation and cult following for being dirt cheap for a while
>>

Cant we all agree that they are both awesome?
Ofc the M1 is a better battle rifle, but mosins are a great begginer .30 cal rifle for cheap (at least used to be).

I can't even count the number of tards on here and pol, whenever there's a recommendation thread someone always chips in "muh nugget"

Sup Garandfags I was gonna start a new thread but I'll post it here.
Anyone reload 30-06 for their Garand? I'm thinking about buying a press and getting a steady stream of food for it. Or is it still better to just buy up surplus 30-06 from CMP?
Either way, what are some good sources for M1 reload specs? I know fuck all about reloading, but I'm willing to learn.

Rumor has it that the Greek surplus has effectively dried up. That leaves Korean surplus left but the CMP does not sell it (it is also kind of poor ammo with off center flash holes). Some debate if the Korean surplus is corrosive primed, but the batch I bought had corrosive primed American rounds in it so I treated it as if it was.

After surplus you have Prvi, Federal and S&B that sell purpose made Garand ammo. The problem is Prvi runs around 65-75 cents a round at cheapest. I can reload for half that cost.

I would recommend reloading for the Garand. Do note that the operating system can be powder sensitive, so buy a reloading manual that lists Garand loads seperate (Hornady does) or risk Master Po's loads (his are hot).
My current load is just over 47gr of IMR4064 in a military surplus case. I use a pulled and swaged down 7.62x54R bullet (I have a huge stock of surplus I bought years ago). This gives me about a 2MOA group in my '58 SA when I do my part.

load clip ~5-6

It was a magical time where you could unironically yell at poorfags and noguns for not having a gun. Nuggets were an essential for any arsenal just from how cheap it was. You could always have a spare for your buddy or keep one in your buggout place.

Children laughed, the Sun Shined, Life was good.
>>
>>34402592
I bought my first Mosin, not know shit about what I was doing for $89.95 out of create at a gunshow a number of years back. It shot like shit (bore is shot out) but I soon bought other guns and didn't care. For some reason, earlier this year, I wanted to be able to hit paper with it. I managed to find a replacement barrel (cost $85) in January and just dropped it off at a gunsmith who is charging me $125 to replace the barrel.

Yeah, not that long ago, Mosins were less than $100. Garands were under $400 from the CMP. In the 90s you could buy an SKS and a crate of surplus ammo for $100. Times change and supplies dry up. Hell, I think it cost Oswald less than $50 for the Carcano, scope and brick of ammo that he used to kill Kennedy.

>Our ported gas plug does NOT vent gas like a vented gas plug. The secret is the hollowed out area in the base of the plug which increases the initial volume of the gas cylinder. By increasing the volume, the peak pressures are reduced without the need to vent the gas.

Mind you, you're still right - if you're lowering the pressure, you're lowering the pressure, doesn't matter to the ballistics how you're doing it you're still getting less push on the actual bullet.

>Lowering the pressure in the gas system wouldn't affect what's already been used to send off the round out the barrel. At least nothing really significant.

Hate to admit it but I got so focused on the lower pressure I did not think of that.

Wouldn't that be true for a system that vents gas too, though? If it's doing it at the gas block, it doesn't matter to barrel pressure so it shouldn't matter to ballistics
>>
>>34404891
I'm not sure if I'm following here. The Garand Gas plug is essentially a hollowed out plug. It's the same dimensions but instead of being flat, it has the interior part of the cap drilled out. It's still enclosed so the gas isn't being vented off, it just has more room so lower pressure. The actual hole the gas leaks from is still the same size so I imagine it's affecting the impulse (Garand Gear really did their home and lab work on this one, check out their stuff here: http://www.garandgear.com/m1-garand-ammunition) and at that stage the bullet is pretty much gone. It's probably not a noticeable difference in ballistics the same way the initial system was doing before by bleeding off some fo the energy to operate the bolt. I imagine it's a very small amount of gas to work the bolt and put another round in the chamber.
