i have one and its fucking amazing, mines in .308 and came with the scope and fluted barrel, wood stock too. It's really easy to shoot, it still weighs 8 pounds which isnt really an issue for most folks but that might not be what you're looking for. you can get dovetails already on em, i've taken around 5 deer already with it. good little gun and only cost 450 at the lgs

Why not get a Ruger Hawkeye? How about a Sako 85 or a Savage that isn't cheap shit? That being said, I have a Ruger American and it is a perfectly good rifle. A little noisy, but it is light and pretty damn accurate.

The trigger on the ruger feels fantastic, but I've never owned a proper rifle, just a 10/22

Why not just get one that already has sights? Remington 700 BDL has them as does the Savage 11/111 Hog Hunter and 11 Scout has them. The Scout has a nice peep sight too.
