What does /k/ think about the Galil ACE in 308?

Is it a good battle rifle?

How sturdy is the top cover to mount optics on?

How long will the rubber buffer last?

Its a bit expensive but you get also high quality. Many consider it as a good alternative to the Scar.

You get
>Cold hammer forged Barrel, chrome-lined, up to 20inch
>Precision, double stage trigger
>Reliable AK design
>Sealed AK design
>easy to clean (unlike Scar, where the piston is a pain in the ass to clean)
>folding stock
>>
>>34397331
>cons
jew gun
>>
Just get a PTR. The differences are negligible and you save $1000.
>>
>>34397247
>What does /k/ think about the Galil ACE in 308?
A very good gun, very possibly the best evolution of the AK to date, that looks like dogshit and costs way more than it should.
>Is it a good battle rifle?
Absolutely, unless you want to sperg out over the definition of battle rifle requiring full auto.
>How sturdy is the top cover to mount optics on?
Extremely, it was originally designed as a precision rifle after all.
>How long will the rubber buffer last?
It's actually not rubber but a soft touch high density polyethylene (ok it's essentially just space rubber) and you can continue to use the gun without it if it becomes damaged. It's just there to make full retard a little less punishing on the receiver.

>>34397268
Actially the 7.62x51 ACE came first to meet the IDF demand for something more reliable, accurate, and lighter than the Galatz. Then they developed the 5.56x45 variant as a possible reintroduction of the Galil as a standard weapon for the IDF, but it was far too cost prohibitive - so much so that some accused them of sending their rifles through military trials as a publicity stunt to show off reliability despite the polymer lower rather than a serious application for adoption. Finally the 7.62x39 variant was made for their overseas contracts in South America.
Not that you would know since nobody from your board actually cares about the weapons themselves.

>>34397367
>unzips jungle
>unzips arctic
>unzips desert
OwO what's this??
Sealed AK system motherfucker. Roller delayed blowback simply can't compete in harsh circumstances. Just ask the Rhodies who threw out G3s for FALs which in turn got thrown out for Galils by the IDF.
Of course if it's just a range toy you're absolutely right unless OP hates the deliberate CHU-THUNK action of RDB, which I personally love.

If it has this rubber buffer, it's garbage.

>Critical component made of rubber
>In the receiver where it will be exposed to all sorts of chemicals
>Constantly being battered by the AKs action

I hope this version doesn't have that.

>Just ask the Rhodies who threw out G3s for FALs
You mean the beat to shit leftover Portuguese G3s? Yeah no shit they threw them out, they were heavily used handmedowns from Portugal after Portugal bailed out of Africa. You dumb Rhodieboos always use this as validation and it's straight up retarded
>>
>>34397512
> poorfag

The implication of this insult is so retarded.

>the way you prove you're not poor is by spending a bunch of extra money for no reason
>>
>>34397491
That's good to know it doesn't need the buffer. My only complaint about the rifle is no more!
>>
>>34397553
If you are going to bitch about being called a poorfag and argue that. Let the man buy the rifle, it isn't your money.
>>
Looks neato
>>
>>34397247
I liked it in Far Cry 3.
Probably not worth the money to anyone who doesn't have a fair bit of expendable income though.

>>34397268
It's milled steel you mongtard crossboarder.

>>34397367
PTR is good but some people want gas operation.
>>
>>34397247
I've wanted a galil in 308 for a decade. Pre ban guns hella expensive.

I want to see more reviews. What I've seen is encouraging. And I'm not unfriendly to the "buy once cry once" philosophy.

Some of the reviews note that it dents the brass. So if reloading is a concern that would matter. Also a hit against g3 clones as that is also murder on brass.

>Actially the 7.62x51 ACE came first to meet the IDF demand for something more reliable, accurate, and lighter than the Galatz.

Didn't they choose the SR-25 in the end?

>Polymer lower
The only thing that ""lower""" does is help insert the mags and provide a pistol grip. The rest is basically just a galil receive. At least for the 7.62x39 version, all you had to do was remove it and it'll function like any other AK deriative. Dunno abou this one, but I'd like to see if it can function without the polymer bit
>>
>>34397674
Really? That's all the fucking polymer lower is? Just a pistol grip with a magazine guide?

Yes.

The nuGalil actually looks pretty slick if you remove the lower, then put on a pistolgrip and trigger guard.
>>
>>34397512
Its like Galil-chan in high-school
>>
>>34397561

Its an ugly fucking baby.

>>
>>34397331
Can you replace the handguard? It's actually a decent looking rifle in this shot except for that goofy thing.
>>
>>34397937
Still needs a classic galil AR handguard and it would be pretty neat.

Or better yet, a galil ARM handguard and bipod

>Rechamber for. 308 and sell to goys for exorbitant prices

There is nothing the ACE does a different rifle doesn't do equally or better.

yes you can
pic related is the magpul zhukov handguard installed on the ACE 308 for example
>>
>>34398646
Looks sleek, though I am concerned about the ability of the dust cover and gas tube mounted rails to hold zero over the long term.
>>
>>34398646
Damn that is a marked improvement aesthetically.
>>
>>34397937
Neat
>>
>>34397504
what exactly is the problem in the circled areas?

Why did they make it look hi point tier? I thought guns are supposed to look better the more pricier they are?

>>34398619
That can be done. A bunch of guys in the AKFiles diddles around with OG galil parts. This is a classic Galil synthetic handguard on an ACE handguard retainer, it was a tight fit but it held really good.
>>
>>34397247
I have one that has a couple thousand rounds through it. Iron sights are set to either 3 or 500 meters, so basically pointless (get a scope). Will shoot anything you throw into it. PMAGS take a bit of modifying to get to work properly in the rifle (unless you want a bolt hold open that shouldn't exist). Other than that, the rifle is ungodly reliable and should last you a good while. Sidenote. The muzzle break on it will piss off everyone around you if you aren't shooting with friends or alone.
>>
>>34399275
Seriously, how hard is it to put a dedicated bolt hold open on an AK? Seems like it would be a really easy modifications but absolutely no one fucking does it.
>>
>>34398622
It's a big left side charging AK chambered in .308 that takes sr-25 mags. It's also actually available.

I'm not really aware of any comparable alternatives.
>>
>>34399287
Almost all AK mags aren't designed to facilitate lrbho, which is the real issue. Some are, but they really do half-ass it since you need to charge the weapon again anyway once you insert a new magazine.

So after thousands of rounds, does the dust cover still hold zero well and does not wobble?

>>34398646
>>34398788
>>34398680
you can also install the extended handguard from alienarmor (pic related)
>>
>>34398646
Wow, that actually looks very good, just put that classic metal folder on there and you've got a real badass package, maybe color the polymer an OD green or give it a camo paintjob.
>>
>>34399521
It holds zero. Approved by Putin.
>>
>>34399366
The only alternatives would be:

AR-10
>isnt an AK
>no sidefolding stock

SCAR
>more expensive
>proprietary mags
>(difficult to clean piston)

FAL
>old design
>not as accurate

PSL
>no sidefolder
>not as accurate
>proprietary mags

Larry Snickers noted that the dust cover does wobble a bit, so red dots are fine, but magnified optics may be questionable
