My old man used to work for Caltex in Zambia. Knew a Rhodesian and a South African. One day, he's invited to go for a weekend trip into the bush inexplicably with these two. Ends up in a truck with the Rhodesian, the South Africa, and something like 8 black soldiers. They spend the weekend burning down villages that refused to be registered and pay taxes.

One particularly harrowing event, my dad recalled, was when they came upon an African man who rode past them on a bicycle without acknowledging them. The Africans apprehend him and interrogate him to no avail. The Rhodesian gets out and tells the poor bastard to stand up. He stands up and get's kicked. Then the Rhodesian tells the man to sit down. He sits down and gets kicked again. This goes on for 10 minutes before the man breaks into tears.

My Dad has a lot of other stories, but I won't divulge some of them. He's been through and done some shit.

Rhodesians used a mixture of gear. Anything from P37 WW2 Brit gear up through the P58 stuff. They used South African gear too. Mostly P61/64 Webbing. I don't know if they used the South African Pattern 70 gear or not, but they used a lot of different shit. They also used homebrewed shit from Fereday and Sons and camping shops throughout the country.
