Here are some I saw,

>The loader needs to fire the Coax M1919 manually
The Coax is fired by the gunner via a solenoid

>The whole tiger fight was done by the 4 shermanz meme

After they shot smoke, the smoke alone could fuck up as the smoke is toxic and when drawn into the tank via the blowers or the open hatches will cause the crew to gag and become sick, and in many times the crew bailed.

While the smoke is doing it's thing the 75mm tank would pump HE into the tiger as the HE fucks up the running gear, optics, gun barrel... etc

This while the 76 tanks go for the tiger's flank and gets a profile shot on, this is why you need 4 tanks to do the job... not the it kills 3 / 4 meme

>The tiger has weak armor in the rear plate meme
The Tiger's gas tanks are on the side right behind the turret, Behind the rear plate where they shot the tank in the movie there is a cooling fan / radiator cluster.

That and the fact that the 76mm at the range you see in the movie could penetrate any point on the upper hull on the tiger's side, which is where not only the gas tanks are located, but the ammo storage as well, not to mention the crew compartment

Already fucked up

There were 8 tanks in the opening minutes, 4 of them were used to pickup guys elsewhere and move forward

Even a random soldier would have fared better than a guy fresh out of boot camp

Also in the first 30 minutes the Germans were shooting like Stormtroopers, missing all their AT guns against slower targets

still not really defending the movie as a whole tho.

It was a bit unrealistic and I feel like it tried too hard to be this grimdark edgy war movie. Like every three seconds someone was dying horribly for no reason or some awful tragedy was happening and there was even a point where one of the characters was yelling "YAAAARRGH THATS WAAAAARRR REEEE" while some really emotional music swelled up in the background. just felt a little heavy handed for my taste

Except the actual data doesn't support those anecdotes. Yes the US took armor losses but so did everyone. The real hard information on the matter doesn't suggest key engineering flaws or any disproportionate loss of Shermans.

Also remember that the key factors in winning an armor engagement aren't paper stats. Most of it comes down to the situational. The quality of the crew, cover, who sees who first, angle of engagement and so on.

This. We lost most our Shermans in Western Europe where the Allies were on the offensive and the Germans on the defensive. They could set up ambushes and almost always had tactical advantages, especially in the Bocage and urban settings. Armor warfare for the allies was reactionary due to situation. There was rarely large mobile armor engagements like there were in the eastern front or Africa.

And even with this in mind, US armor performed extremely well at it's job. Also note that averaging casualties, only one man was killed per tank knocked out. This means that quite often all the crew survived a combat kill and when someone did die it was usually the unfortunate crewman nearest the impact.

This is helped by the fact that the Sherman was actually really easy to evacuate from, compared to most Panzers and the T-34, which were much more difficult to escape in a crisis.

I can't remember, but they might have been different panzerfausts. A pf 30 and a pf 100 are going to have different effects inside the tank. might also have been different sherman models or hits to "empty" space versus the ammo rack/gas tank.

>>34398237
I answered it to the best available information ALL 76 armed M4 Sherman tanks had wet storage from the factory and American 75 armed M4 Sherman tanks where converted to wet storage starting summer 1944 if you want an exact statistic one is unavailable.
>>
>>34398453
your original post implied all us shermans by normandy were wet stowage. you are being disingenuous at best, since the vast majority of us shermans were still dry stowage, and the relatively few 76 mm tanks shipped in time for the invasion were deliberately kept out of the line until opeartion cobra. wet stowage did dramatically help stop fires, but they were rare enough in actual fighting in normandy to be considered nonexistant

The movie heavily relied on the "Late war, so Germany mobilized all available units" attitude too much to excuse Fury's blatant plot armor. Not even going into the retarded finale. But the Tiger engagement pissed me off. The Tiger has enough experience to place themselves in a perfect ambush position and make a 600-800yd (cant remember what they called out in the) movie) on a moving target. "Death Traps" is a book that is largely responsible for shaping the perception of American tanks as being inferior to their German opponents. Written by Belton Cooper, this book paints a very unflattering picture of the M4 Sherman tank which served as the main battle tank for the USA during WW2. Cooper served as an ordinance Lieutenant in the European theatre of the war, and in this book he characterizes the M4 Sherman as a poorly designed tank, wholly inferior to the German tanks that it went up against.

Cooper paints himself as an expert on this subject, but his book has many issues which hurt his credibility. Despite being framed as a memoir, Cooper frequently exposits upon events which he had no direct connection to. For example, he criticizes General Patton for delaying the development of the M26 Pershing tank (which Cooper regards as vastly superior to the M4 Sherman) when there is actually very little evidence that Patton impeded the M26 in any way. Patton was a field commander and thus he had very little influence on the development of new tanks. A more detailed overview of "Death Traps" and its flaws can be found here:

https://tankandafvnews.com/2015/01/29/debunking-deathtraps-part-1/

The important takeaway here is that Cooper's book had a huge impact on how the M4 Sherman was perceived after the war had concluded. He was frequently invited into documentaries as a "tank expert" and thus his views leaked into the documentaries, which in turn were absorbed by viewers as factual.

Educate yourself before posting that garbage child.

Weren't panzerfausts a HEAT round? If it misfired wouldn't it just have clunked off the side of the tank?

I noticed a surprising lack of transmission failures with that tiger. Also at the end it should say "The battle lasted about half an hour before the complete and total Allied air superiority forced the Germans to surrender, also the Tiger broke down before it even reached the battle and it took FOUR DAYS to swap the single broken valve out".

>Is there anything wrong with this movie besides

Yeah, basically, the entire movie is a comic book version of WW2.
>>
>>34402182
it's a movie, not a documentary
>>
The whole gritty war movie angle was destroyed by the ending. If they would have shown the actual state of the German army at that time and distorted the "heroic last stand of the last few men" trope into more like the last few real soldiers in the theatre at the time mowing down malnourished pensioners and teenagers. It would make the typist's final decision to participate in the slaughter even more in vain and the final scene in the movie where he is spared by the German looking straight at him is now basically like a fate worse than death living with the guilt for the rest of his life.

And yet there are movies that attempt to get it right, and then there are shit flicks like this that don't even bother and just pile on the cliches and hope the crowd is too young and stupid to have read any books or seen any black and white footage from the war.

I wasn't defending Death Traps, just pointing out it was the primary source material for the movie. This seems to be news to the people posting about it, which is particularly amusing when they then try to speak with authority regarding it. At least you just copy/pasted someone else's thoughts.

>>34399172
>"Death Traps" is a book that is largely responsible for shaping the perception of American tanks as being inferior
Criticism of the Sherman started before the war even ended. Yellow journalists turned it into a proper scandal after the Bulge, which is why you have still-active servicemen defending it as far back as 1946;

>it this real or just a fairy tale?
It's obviously exaggerated, though some aspects lend it a bit of credibility. For example the practice of bouncing HE shells on cobblestones when advancing on roads and into towns did happen, though wouldn't have been common knowledge outside of armored units.

Tigers don't tank duel

Waffen-SS don't wave attack.
>>
the only problem with this movie was tanks charging long barrel 75mm AT guns.
The tanks would of been massacred.
Then the Tiger vs Shermans was dumb from BOTH SIDES.
The Sherman's at that range didn't need to flank the Tiger, The long barrel 75mm gun could pen the Tiger's front plate at that range easily.
secondly the Tiger would of been able to kill all 4 tanks at 2km where it WAS immune to their guns.
LAST BUT NOT LEAST. in the final scene where they are flanking around the rear the Tiger commander for some reason thinks instead of reversing and turning to keep the front of the tank pointed at the sherman he should go forward instead. making it easier for the sherman to get behind him.
It was a good movie and i enjoy seeing authentic equipment. but it was hollywood as fuck.
>>
>>34404615

also the final scene was retarded.
In real life they would of just abandoned the tank and walked back to HQ.
But nah, gotta get that american heroism in there.

Everything. From the comical depiction of combat, to the genocidal grimness. It's basically a shit flick made for clueless Millennial audiences, WW2 viewed through the prism of modern popular culture.

>I was referring to the end battle, where the punisher used the coax 1919.
IIRC the reason they were firing it manually then was that they had some sort of problem with the coax and had replaced it with the 1919 from the commanders cupola ring but i am not sure, was a long time since i saw it.

Since this thread seems to have lots of Sherman-fags, explain this tank to me.

I saw it at a museum a couple weeks ago, as far as I know it's built from parts from various different Sherman models, the front of the hull is an early cast hull, but it's been cut apart and wielded to the boxier wielded RHA hull making up the middle and rear of the vehicle, resulting in a raised seam clearly visible on that little extra armor plate on the side.

Was stuff like this common?

>I use a revolver rather than standard issue US Army 1911

That part is a nonissue and you're autisically nitpicking without being autistic enough to know the facts.

There are plenty of soldiers that were issued the S&W 1917, it was also a standard issue gun that was in use before the 1911.

M4a6 was a test variant with a cast front hull welded to a rear welded hull. It also had a multi fuel powerpack. Never saw service.
