This market probs won't be for you right now unless you'd be alright with settling for something like a WASR, SAR, etc but the situation with magazines that aren't metal (and 7.62x39) doesn't seem to be improving to me. I hope I'm wrong about the magazines situation though. Oh I forgot to mention, even the market for the lower tier AKs is only climbing.

So what's /akg/ having for dinner? Check my shit out
>>
>>34381234
if you just want a nice revolver to test the waters with, go for a used S&W. The market still has a healthy supply of LEO trades. Look for Model 10, 15, 36 (3"), 19, 27, 29, 69, etc.Don't worry about getting one with a pinned barrel and recessed chambers and you can get something beautiful for sub $400, just avoid hillary holes if possible

If you don't have epicurean taste in revolvers the difference between a DW or other custom trigger and a well worn duty gun will be negligible, not to mention the best DA and SA pull you have probably ever felt. semi-autos will not compete in trigger pull until you get into the Pardini range
>>
>>34381235
Yeah it has. Was considering briefly getting a draco recently for an SBR since my state legalized that shit but the wait time isn't worth it.

>>34381249
.44 would also be a nice caliber but I've never owned a handgun so I think .357 should be the highest magnum I should own to start off.

I liked his .357 better. He just really likes .44mag though. I think he mentioned he has a deagle in .44 too.
>>
>>34381295
at this point I would rather go for a PTR32 SBR than a draco

.357 is best for a first revolver IMO because you can shoot .38spl for cheap practice and carry .357 for defensive loads.
>>34381254
looks good, what is it called?
>>34381316
.44 deagle is the one to own, cheaper to shoot with most of the power

The filling has the following:
>Vietnamese chilli paste
>olive oil
>a little cayenne pepper powder
>cut off radishes
>green onion/scallions/whatever
>black pepper
>minced garlic
And then as far as prep

Sucks here especially. We can only have some VEPRs, SLR-104s and -106s, and the Zastava M90NP. The only AK legal here that's still in production or not banned from import is the SLR-106. Problem is that good mags are expensive and I don't feel like paying a gunsmith extra to butcher them down to only feed 10rds.

Pic related is the KR-9 from Kalash USA. It definitely won't fit Maryland's arbitrary definition of a "copycat weapon"--that is if Kalash USA decides to actually sell their products for once.

yeah, the Steyr pistols have them too but I don't mind so much because it was essentially always part of their design

they may have similar sights depending on the model. for instance, my model 19 has an adjustable rear and dovetailed insert on the front (overall more target-ish, including that anti-glare rear but not as pronounced as DW) but the victory is entirely fixed notch and post military style

just be patient, you'll find one eventually. most of my slam dunk deals are at least a month in the making (checking auction sites every other day)

Literally the only thing that will kill 5.45 AK's are the people spreading the fear and ruining demand. IF there's demand then US manufacturers will do just like they did with 7.62x39, and start to make the caliber domestically. If everyone echo chambers the panic and other bullshit, like they've been doing since fucking 2014 and the end of 7n6, then yeah, it's a dead caliber walking.

>I was really wanting a 5.45 ak but the doom and gloom on akfiles convinced me against it

If 5.45 goes away, so does all of the cheap 7.62x39. There is no scenario in which one gets hit and the other doesn't, and if Russian ammo imports are cut off, what happened to milsurp happens to AKs as everyone rushes to buy every single box of steel case they can find. This also means GT and 8m3 are gone (again and for good). That's kind of a big deal.

Can someone explain, step by step because I'm retarded, how to "convert" a ban-era rifle?

Specifically, the SAR-2.
I know a lot of people have done it, in fact most of the ones I see online are "converted" to look like the Romanian Army ones.

What all do I need to do, how do I do it, and how much is it going to cost me?

The issue being that if Russian imports get banned, it's not only 5.45 that gets got.
In that scenario we lose cheap 7.62x39, 7.62x54r, and hell, even cheap American shit produced in Russia like 5.56, .45, all the tula-produced fudd rounds, etc...

It would be a gun-community wide chimpout, from the autistic Russian LARPers to the old timer Fudds, and the NRA would never let it stand.

The one on the right is your best bet. It is what legion is selling and started its life out as exactly what I need. Unfortunately the punch press marks were welded over when it was removed and sold as spare parts. Other than that its correct for conversion. If you're interested post a burner and I'll email you.
>>34382283
No bayo lug and no punch press marks/pinned. Also the fucking krink trigger guard in my 74M kit lel. The left one is my best bet at this point. It is new never used. The punch press marks can be replicated obviously, but I would prefer something original. The right one I mention above.
>I could sell you a proper one once it comes off my SGL

Oh. You're going to have a reeeeaally hard time finding what you're talking about. My 74M takeoff FSB also has the dimples drilled out. They just have to be welded back up and then faked. If the dimples aren't drilled out and the part is just pressed off, it'll make the dimples pucker outwards. That's what happened with my RPK parts. The only way around it is the certified yokel method of drilling the barrel out. Finding a proper 74M block like that is a pipe dream. You'd have to find a Russian with a deact and give him explicit instructions on how to remove the FSB from the barrel stub. Then if he's properly equipped to actually perform that, he'll probably fuck it up anyways. You're going to have to settle for faux drilled dimples. It's best to have it pinned on, mask the pins with weld, and fake the dimples.

Ah, I didn't know yours was drilled too. My hope was to have the parts sent over on stubs to avoid the whole ordeal off pressing the components off. The picture of what I thought I was buying had the parts on stubs (and a bayo lug). I kinda made a point to confirm what was pictures was what I would get. I got Russed and ended up with something different though. Goes with the territory I suppose.
I think BR is able to preserve the dimples now by milling out the stubs and then blind pining the components from the underside to preserve them. I know it's a stupid detail to obsess over, but I'm a stupid guy to begin with. I'm a little surprised you're not concerned so much about them, which honestly kinda helps me get over it. So thanks Chimps-kun. Please accepts this horrible mock up picture of my attempt thus far as a token of my appreciation.

Did it myself with a hacksaw and a $100 crown cutter from brownells, but don't get that one because it doesn't have the right size bore adapter, CNC warrior does though.

Hardest part was keeping the hacksaw straight, I recommend modifying some washers as a stand-off device and leaving yourself about 5mm at least of extra barrel instead of going flush to the FSB in case you fuck up.

Also you definitely want to use a cutting fluid for the crowning tool, and if you finish the new crown with cold blue, be very thorough when you clean it up, because the cold blue compound can have a bad reaction with the chrome, surprisingly.

>>
>>34384142
Don't you have to remove the FSB to get out the gas regulator? To me, that would be a much bigger hurdle than cutting and crowning. A factory pressed on FSB like that will be a bitch to get off without the proper equipment. Just knocking the damn cross-pins out would be a challenge in itself.

I can loan you my crowning tool for a nominal shipping fee. Sleep time

Is there a large difference in quality between an Arsenal Inc converted Saigia rifle and a rifle converted by another company, say Legion? I don't think there would be since it's basically moving the trigger and installing the proper FSB and furniture right?

If you're talking about SGLs, they are not converted sporter Saigas. From circumstantial evidence they appear to have been imported as barreled recievers. For example, they have the trigger group in the correct location from the beginning.

We did a big write up of the differences between Saigas and SGLs a few months ago. I'll try to find it.
>>
>>34387481
Alright, I'm just asking because I found a lightely used Saigia rifle from Legion. I thought they were all converted sporters. Sorry I don't know much about this.
>>
>>34387512
Easiest way to tell if it's a converted sporter is to see if there's welded up or covered holes above the pistol grip. Most sporters that were converted never had the holes welded back up.

Not that guy, but Legion are considered to be the more desirable SGLs. Not sure why, or if there's even a difference between them and FIME SGLs.

Even if it were a sporter that was converted, it should still be fine, depending upon the price.

>>34387826
There isn't a difference. It's just a logo. They don't perform any better or worse.

>>

$900 to much? Because that's what they're asking, it doesn't have a muzzle brake and it has shitty furniture on it, but that can be fixed. My main concern is that they shot 7n6 thorough it without cleaning it.

>>
>>34387998
I wouldn't be able to say without seeing pictures, but even if they did shoot 7N6 without cleaning it, the issues would probably be cosmetic. Minor pitting isn't as big of an issue as people make it out to be.
If it does have pitting, $900 would be about right if it was an SGL.

Got any pics? If you did, it would help quite a bit.

>>34388043
So slight cosmetic differences. Not really worth the additional $100-200 I usually see them go for over FIME SGLs, but definitely worth going after if they're the same price.

you wouldn't by any chance know the skinny on de-sporterizing Veprs in this fine state, now would you?

I know de-sporterized 922r 54R's are kosher because Atlantic sold their flash hider-equipped SVD clones here and some FFL's would transfer them.

To say that they likely won't produce a single firearm out of the factory in the next 5 years is a little asinine.

I'm pretty pragmatic when it comes to these things, although perhaps a bit cynical.
I hope I'm wrong, but too many times have manufacturers failed to produce results in any reasonable timeframe.
And just because there's a physical building doesn't mean the machining is anywhere near being installed, let alone actually releasing products.

You're not wrong, and were it almost any other manufacturer, I'd be inclined to agree, but they seem pretty eager to set up here in the states to avoid German export laws.

I've seen people try similar stuff first hand on their guns, with disastrous results when it actually comes to shooting.
