Ehh, my finish has already been through hell and back, and it's an AK meaning it's not meant to look clean. And the charging handle finish is like a hundredth of the gun's surface area so I doubt I'd notice it.

I don't wanna cut my hand on the dust cover, as it is I have to grip the end of the (huge, as you said) charging handle. This makes it not as big as it seems.

1.Get Galil bolt carrier
2.hammer out piston roll pin.
3.Unscrew piston from bolt carrier
4.Lube threads with white lithium grease
5.screw in piston all the way, then back it out till the roll pin can go through.
6.punch in new pin (you'll need a smaller roll pin.

I use 10mm casings as charging handles on my .22 rifles. Fits well with both 10/22 and mossberg 702, probably with others too.
