I like my mak, but I also happen to like the 9x18 cartridge, I reload cast boolits and it never seems to fuck up the brass very much, so it isn't a problem particularly.

Either way, carry underwood +p hollowpoints, and replace your recoil spring if you don't want to send your brass into the next state.

9x18 is fairly common, seems to be commercially available. It's not as common as 9x19, but probably kinda close to 9x17. I would get it in 9x18, mine is a sweet shooter. I would say decent ccw, but I would go with a shotgun/rifle for home defense.

I love mine, for me the simplicity is a real win for the makarov. The DA part of the trigger is heavy, but better than some, and the single action is great.
If this was your first pistol, I would get something in 9mm, but besides that I think they are great.

Actually, I remember seeing on here multiple linked videos by hospital staff and such professionals discussing gunshot wounds they see.

Turns out, it's that handguns are too slow. The resulting shockwave is literally too slow to damage tissue.

Rifles rounds have the advantage here, assuming your barrel is long enough.

Critical Defense sucks. Get some Underwood or Buffalo Bore for 9x18 or .380.

Maks are great but not for CCW. I own three of them. They are heavy as a brick. If you buy a mak don't get one in 380 get a 9X18 and if you want a good gun for ccw there are alot better choices that are smaller, much lighter and chambered in 9mm or 40 smith and even a 45 shield or 45 kahr. Personally I carry a Kahr PM9 and fully loaded with 7 rounds it weighs less then the Mak empty
