I want a Mauser. I'm not interested in collecting a bunch of different varieties of Mausers, but I would like one. Should I get a Chilean Mauser, or a Yugo M48? (I'm open to other suggestions as well, but I'm mostly interested in these two).
>>34381483
yugo hands down
I got this Yugo mauser that I am trying to sell or trade at an upcoming gun show. I got it in trade and it came with this brass stacker scope mount and cheek riser. Both of them are easily removable, and the rifle is all original and in amazing condition. Do you guys think I should remove the mount and riser? I am concerned people will just think it was bubba'd

1909 Argentine Carbine I bought for $225. It's a shame it was cut down and rechambered in 30-06. Shoots nice though. I'm thinking of refinishing it and selling it but not sure if I should do it as is or buy an original stock.
>>34383681
I already have a decent setup, but I need to stock up on ammo and related stuff before the end of the year (no online sales to CA starting 2018). I'm not sure it's worth my time to reload some of my calibers (7.62x39, primarily), so I'm getting what I can, while I can. I need to find some decent 8mm Mauser. For some reason, FMJ 8x57 is hard to find at the moment and most of the surplus I can find is either really overpriced or absolute shit.

Has it been? I looked up the serial number and it says it's a cavalry carbine made in 1911. The barrel is 22 inches on those and that's what mine is. I think they probably just cut down the stock. If that's the case would it be worth getting an original stock or would it really not add any value because it's still the wrong caliber?

Will that wood fit on a new PTR? I found a century at a pawn shop with wood furniture but I don't want the whole shitty rifle, just the wood. I don't expect they'll be open to me buying just the furniture but I thought it might be worth a try assuming they're compatible.
>>34384289
Check online for the furniture. Surplus furniture kits.
I've had PTRs and CETMEs apart both in the same hour, there are some subtle and minor differences like in the metal part rear stock buffer assembly. I haven't tried to switch them out, but PTRs are tight where some CETMEs can be pretty sloppy. Mine's tight though, if you have some mechanical skills you can squeeze and manipulate the differences if there are any problems.
>>34384184
>it says it's a cavalry carbine made in 1911.
It has a rifle-length rear sight on it (300-2000m), not a carbine sight (200-1400m), and it does not have a carbine front sight base. There are separate serial number ranges for infantry rifles and carbines.
>pic related, my Argentine M1909 infantry rifle and cavalry carbine, both made in 1911.

If I ever get around to getting a MAS-36 (or a Carcano), I'll have this same problem. On the one hand, the French were officially on the Allied side, but on the other hand, more Frenchmen (and thus more MAS rifles) fought for the Axis than against it.

I'd call the MAS-36 Allied personally, though I can definitely see the argument for calling them Axis.
My Carcano is going into Axis since the pastas spent most of the war on the Axis side, and even when they OFFICIALLY flipped a lot of soldiers kept fighting for the Krauts.

>>34385515

>>34381483
It depends on a few factors. Do you like the Great War style long rifles, or do you want a shorter, carbine rifle? 8mm or 7mm Mauser? If you like longer guns, get the Chilean. Fortunately for me, I don't have to chose, because I have both.
>>34384584
The Vichy French never officially joined the Axis. They only defended their colonial holdings. Even then then forces in North Africa switched back to the Free French as soon as it became clear the allies would win. Instead of turning their fleet over to the Germans they scuttled it. Even then the Vichy Army was fixed at about 100,000 for Metropolitan France and they were limited to 120,000 for North Africa. And almost the entirety of the North African army joined the Free French. All in all the Free French numbered about 1.4 Million soldiers by 1945. Way more than Vichy ever fielded

>MIke B is that you?

>>34386551
Any opinion on which repro cleaning rods/slings are the most accurate reproductions, or a source for originals that aren't very expensive or significantly degraded?
>>34386814
I think original cleaning rods are easy enough to find. For slings I wouldn't know. I only own original ones and the rubberized canvas ones are always falling apart.
If you look for original ones, be careful you don't get a fake made from a Swedish Mauser sling. They are similar but not the same.
Gunshop up the road from where I work is selling an Inland M1 carbine for $799. The bore looks decent but the rest of the gun is pretty knocked up. The wood is worn and chewed in places, the action os missing most of its blueing and i would say the rifle is rated in fair condition. Action is smooth and headspacing is all good. Assuming he works on the price (I'm sure he will), what is a fair price for this. I have an unissued Saginaw that I love and would like to get this one that I dont have to baby like the Saginaw.

Califag here, should I just build an ar instead of buying an sks? Half the price of a mini 14, and I can readily convert it in case of a camelfucker invasion or other emergency.
>>34383694
>>34384584
My first gun was my SKS-M that my dad handed me when I turned 18 and never told me where he got it from...
But my next gun will either be a Turkish Mauser that was made in 1958 in my area that is selling for about $180 USD. My only concerns are finding ammo for it, it's the old 8mm. Or the classic M44 Mosin that I have always wanted, but it likes around $300 with all goodies attached.
>>34387482
>But my next gun will either be a Turkish Mauser that was made in 1958
That would be a really late date. The "ATF"-marked ones dated 1954 are the latest I've yet seen.
>My only concerns are finding ammo for it, it's the old 8mm.
Not if it was made in 1958, or by the Turks in general. Turkey adopted the .323" S-Patrone 8x57mm.

>And I am pretty sure that it was 58', but I could be wrong then??
At this point I don't assume anything about Turkish Mausers. Always something new to them popping up.
>>34387554

Theres lot of surplus rifles cheap here like original k31 420€, original nazi mauser 500€ endfield No1 MK3 320€ and arisakas are around 200-400 depending on condition. Gotta catch them all
>>34389975
Where are these Arisakas in Euroland? I doubt there would be many. Maybe a few from the Russian order in WWI (a lot were captured by the Germans and Austrians and Finland inherited some) or from the British order (which most went to Russia). Outside of those few, there won't be many unlike here in the States.
>>34390012
Finland, some of them were converted to 7x53R, 7,62x53R, 8,2x53R, 9,3x53R or 9,3x57, but still theres lot in original 6,5x50SR.
>>34389975
seems odd that gp11 would be expensive there
>>34390093
>some of them were converted to 7x53R, 7,62x53R, 8,2x53R, 9,3x53R or 9,3x57,
So bubba'd?
There should also be some in .303 because that's what happened to most that were sent by Finland to Estonia.
Know of any Type 35s?
>>34390309
They dont sell that here, new brass cost around 1,2€/ea so reloading price comes around ~2€ per round, only factory ammo i could find is Norma Oryx costing 5,17€ per round, but this is more hunting ammo than range ammo.
>>34390495
Yes also .303 forgot about that but these where converted almost all possible cartridges, havent found any type 35, type 30 seems to be most common, some bubbad go for cheaps as 100€ because its hard to restore them since original or spare stock, original parts are scarce.
>>34388944
I'm at work rite now will make a burner later
>>34390497
>5.17 german reparation stamps per hunting load

Well post it anon.

>>34390981
only got 3 at my apartment. left my nugget and my vz24 with my dad years ago
>>34390981
.
>>34391018
Not bad. Do you think you can get them back from your dad?
>>34391070
yeah I could but I dont really have any interest in a nugget or a 7mm vz24 anymore though.
I was doing my weekly cleaning of my bedside gun (M57) and somehow just noticed what looks like some initials on the grip. The light was just right apparently. Pretty cool I think.
I just got a star model B super was 330 for it with the FFL transfer fee.
>>34389080
how much did that run you? I always wanted a Madsen
>>34391337
First one was 550 iirc and second one was $650. Same seller.

sounds good man. just drop it here or shoot me an email at [email protected]
>the lebel on gunbroker is now over 800 dollars
WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON RIGHT NOW
>>34391629
gunbroker is shit. I bought a ljungman on it once because they dont exist otherwise.
avoid at all cost
>>34391629
is that a lot for a lebel? im not well read in french guns.
any of you guys build displays for your surp? thinking about it since they don't fit in my safe
>>34391629
That's about right for a Lebel man.
>>34391827
just put them in my safe
>>34391850
there's like 4 days left on the auction and it has hit the standard price.
>>34391973
Yup. Might go up, might stay the same. Ya never know.
so is there any strategy to bidding on stuff like gunbroker or ria or do you just enter your max when you decide you want it
>>34392129
Just bid what you're willing to pay. That's all you can do. You'll either win it or you won't. Most of the time you won't.
>>34392129
I play the bidding game. most people here dont, its all up to what you think is best
>>34392129
thats pretty much what i do but it seems like a lot of people sandbag the bets.
>>34392147
i might give it a try if something really catches my eye. ive lost 9 auctions in a row so im just trying to do a bit better without breaking the bank.

Ar15s are now the new surplus. 28 cents a round for brass m193 and 400 for a decent new gun. I refuse to pay 50 cents a round for shitty nugget ammo.

Because 77 and 75gr rounds are a lot cheaper when you do so.
>>34392395

Anyone have any interest in millsurp with engravings/"trench art"?
Someday I think it would be neat to find a rifle with something indicating french resistance use, even if it's not something you could usually authenticate one way or the other.
>>34379498
debating whether or not to save up for a special grade M1 from CMP or get an AR, would be about another couple months till i have enough saved.
>>34392219
tfw I just bought 100 rounds of russian yellow tip for 40cpr. I wish he had more to sell...
I'm looking to buy a Lee Enfield No.4 or SMLE, where's the best place to look aside from Gunbroker?
>>34392428
I actually have a ross mk 2 with multiple markings on what battalions it was a part of.
>>34392428

>>34384830
Wrong stock, polished bolt, polished bands.
Lol, just lol
If I list an item purposely over priced on gunbroker some schmuck will eventually buy it right?
>>34393524
Depends. If it's surp, abso-fucking-lutely. Maybe not Nuggets or most Carcanos from what I've seen, but anything else usually gets at least one bite.
Or you could start a no reserve penny auction and wait for some fucktard like me to bid beyond what he wants to pay. :^)
Lebelfag here.
I went back to the gun/pawn shop that I saw the lebel in again as well as noticing a berthier in decent external shape. The guy is asking 500 for it and the finish is great with a decent bore and non-matching bolt, Is that a good price?
I didn't get to molest the berthier and the price tag was twisted and there was shit in front of the gun so I could not reach it.
>>34390658
Totally not the ATF, I swear, but what are you holding?
>>34391082
You should sell them then. Use the money to get guns you ARE interested in.
>>34391827
Nah, I'm at my parent's place until I finish College 2: Electric Boogaloo, I didn't even buy a "safe" (read: Stack-On cabinet) until I decided to start spending all my shekels on milsurp this year.
Once i get my own place again, then I'll probably look into the Matrix thing that Gun Jesus is shilling.
On the other hand I never have anyone over, so it's not like it matters.
>>34392129
I think putting in the most you're comfortable paying is probably the best bet. That way people are more likely to drop out instead of getting emotionally attached to the bid and going higher than they would otherwise.
>>34392375
NICE!
I'm slowly convincing myself to restore my Krag, but finding a decent stock that won't break the bank isn't easy.
>>34392428
I'm actually going to buy a gun with "trench art" on it, provided it stays where it is until the end of next week.
>>34392471
CMP is probably gonna get new Garands soon, also if Century gets to import the Korean Garands (which is reasonably likely) then the prices might dip. I'd hold off on the Garand for a bit (though it is a slight roll of the dice) and snag the parts to build an AR.
>>34392586
Liberty Tree and Simpson both have them in stock if you're willing to pay. I got mine from my LGS, I've seen a couple in local gun shows.
>>34393568
I'm no Ouiaboo, but I think that's a good price for it.
>Not asking the employees to molest the Berthier
>>34393568
depends on the berthier. Is it a rifle or a carbine? 3 or 5 shot?
>get to shoot it Saturday
can't wait to get some new pics
>>34392375
Your doing gods work anon
>>34380529
Could someone please post an mage of a type 99 long rifle, and the standard length?
>>34394309
I think the pic you quoted is exactly that.
How close are the descriptions on Simpsons website? I'm considering saving up for one of their m1917s but have never bought anything from them
>>34394392
He means a comparison of the Type 99 long rifle and the regular length side by side. They're about 5.5 inches longer according to wikipedia, so a little shorter than a Type 38.
>>34394488
Im a bit confused. are you saying the long rifle is a bit shorter than a type 38?
>>34388314
>tfw going to my local gun shop and picking up a Russian SKS from the crate for $190 USD.
>>34388478
I handled one the other day. Nice quality and action but I'd go for the long rifle, the carbine is too short for my taste and the especially short sight radius isn't nice.
>>34392219
Is that your department gun?
>>34380641
How much did you find it for?
>>34395682
Well that deal fell apart on me because I assume he started looking at gb and realized he was selling cheap. Was supposed to be the gun 60rds and reloading dye for $450.
>>34391629
Battlefield 1.
>>34395716
I'm about to buy one for the same price, (and maybe a c96) they've shot up a lot in the past couple months
>>34395808
Good luck hopefully whoever your buying from doesn't get cold feet
>>34395127
No. He's some arg tripfag who builds rifles he never shoots.
>>34395716
I'm in the same boat, the seller for my M44 hasn't responded to e-mails or called me in a couple days.
The best part is that I already paid for the transfer since he was supposed to fucking show up a few days ago.
>>34394501
Okay, so there was the Type 38, the first really mass produced Arisaka. It was long as fugg, 50.2 inches, one of the longest service rifles in it's time.
Then the Type 99 was invented, initially it was designed as a long rifle. It was 49.5 inches and had a similar stock style to the Type 38, with the top of the barrel exposed. It might look like a last ditch, but look closer and you'll realize it isn't. These have superb build quality. Less than 40,000 of these were made and then the Type 99 was updated to be shorter, 44 inches and have a wood handguard run to the end of the stock.
Also my Type 38 pictured because why not.
>>34394309
>>34394488
Sure, man.
>>34396348
>Okay, so there was the Type 38, the first really mass produced Arisaka.
They made half a million Type 30s.
>>34396403
oh shit didn't know they made that many Type 30's, because I never see any for sale
>>34396437
That's because a large percentage were sold to Russia in WWI.
>>34396437
Most of them went to Russia.
Also if you wanna get technical, the 38 and 99 aren't Arisakas.
I want in on grorious Nippon posting

>>34397093

>>34396953
Is there a reason some 38s have open sights and the others have peep sights? Was it late vs early or just based on the arsenal?

Not disagreeing chief. Just making a comparison.
supposedly, sportsmans guide has PPU lebelfood
>>34397836
They did last time I checked. Think it's around $20 a box.
Question guys:
Original Inland M1A1. 6mil serial, 10-44 barrel, no import marks. Stock is original but has soldier's initials carved on one side. Bad thing: it's been nickel plated.
$699. Should I?
>>34397767
Even more jelly then.
>>34397932
Actually late 4m serial IIRC. I can't remember, didn't take but a peak at it but guy has had it a while (pawn shop).
But it's a WW2 Inland.
>>34397932
I'd take it. For $700 it's not a terrible price for a NEW M1, getting one with history, even if it's moderately bubbaed, is worth it.
>>34398010
Well ones in original condition are selling (with bids) for $2500-3000 on Gunbroker, but as I said, this one has been bubba'd. Metal on the para stock has been plated too.
>>34398192
Oh shit, I didn't notice you say it's an A1. I'd definitely that it if it was wartime production.
Anyone have an idea of what a gas trap Garand would cost?
>>34398501

>>34400505
yup tons of American markings.

Ive always wondered if the US marked ones are more common than the pure leaf ones in the US for obvious reasons. I've never seen the numbers on how many were imported before the ban.

did the USA use ross mk 3 other than the civilian market? I thought they only used mk2s for military import
>>34402945
i'm not sure. mine was used the british, not usa.
it has the marking "not english make"
>>34400054
Nah. The only repro that I'm planning on buying is the M14, because I need one for my collection and the originals are likely rapishly expensive.
A gas trap Garand is an end-goal, not an essential.
>>34402945
The Mk3 was civilian market only in the US. The MK2s were for basic training during WW1. I've seen both US marked and plain MkIIs in the US and was wondering which of the two is more rare down here.
I have a US marked bayonet for mine as well.

>>34401278
Well I have a Tulle Berthier M16 that has a 1926 mfg date.
>>34406315
I was wrong. They apparently made some in WWI. The 1926 would be the barrel date though. I don't think they made any Berthiers after WWI.
