The 10/22 and model 60 are among the best and most sold 22's in america so which is the better pew pew.
>>
>>34379125
10/22 - removable magazines, wide variety of aftermarket accessories and parts available, reasonably cheap, good performance, etc.
>>
>>34379125

Marlin's got more pew pew in ban states like CA, which specifically exempt .22 tube mags from the AW 10+ mag cap ban. That's why I bought mine, all those years back.
>>
>>34379125
Remington 597 because I want a rifle that feels like a full size rifle and not some kiddie starter rifle.
>>
>>34379125
10/22

More aftermarkets stuff
Uses a normal feed system
Can make it look like a spooky gun if you're into that sort of thing
Goes in a takedown format
>>
>>34379125
Had a lot of feed problems using plastic magazines with a 10/22
>>
>>34379125
OP here i shot both, both are pretty good out the box but i have notice the marlin is a bit cheaper i found it as low as 150 and the cheapist i seen the 10/22 is 180 at buds
>>
>>34379170
this and removable mags actually make it comparable to the 10/22
>>
I have 5 or so 10/22's and one 60.

I really like both guns. Either are fine choices. I would suggest the 10/22 as you can turn it into whatever you like and the magazines are phenomenal. The rotary's never jam and high quality stick mags are great.

If you buy a tube fed 22 it really should be a lever action. Also, if you buy the 10/22 you can later buy an american rimfire to suppress. They share magazines and are really that much quieter.
>>
>>34379125
I love my Marlin Model 60's. I had one as a kid that I stupidly sold, now I have three. Seems like when they get ten years or so of dirt and crud in them, people don't know enough to disassemble and clean them, so they just sell them for next to nothing. I buy 'em, clean them up and they work perfectly.

Little better than the 60, and unless you dump tons of money into it, the 10/22 is overrated...
>>
This might not be a good place to ask, but I'll try anyway. So my 10/22 has this weird deal with the bolt. When I pull it back, it stays in place, but there's no way for me to release it. No bolt release, no switch, or toggle. Nothing. The only way to make it drop is to push the bolt forward and have it close. I can pull, actuate the bolt hold open under the trigger guard, but as soon as I "deactivate" it, it stays in place. Is this a normal feature of a 10/22, or shouo I not have bought used?

Disassemble it and check to see if there's anything missing or broken. Chances are you lost a piece when you last field stripped it.
>>
>>34379125
The only thing 10/22 does better is removable mags and aftermarket. If youre not interested in dressing up your .22 like an AR, the model 60 is better.
>>
>>34379244
So having to push the bolt closed is not in the standard manual of arms, yes?

The 10/22 has a bolt release but what you are saying is not normal
>>
After buying both, i can say that the marlin 60 is the superior choice. I found it to have superior fit and finish, lower price. The microgroove rifling outshoots any stock 10/22 for people who dont want to pay 400 dollars of bullshit for the rifle. Magazines are costly when a Speedloader for the tube magazine can be purchased that works even faster than reloading.=
>>
>>34379263
Okay, so when I press on that fucker, it does not fall. Why? Is it some sort of aftermarket choice the previous owner might have made?
>>
>>34379229
You're missing a pin. Take it apart. Should be obvious.
>>
>>34379283

p sure you have to pull the bolt back while pressing it

I also have a 795 and enjoy it. Wanted to get a wood stock though

>>
>>34379125
I have a 10/22 TD, a 10/22 22" Sporter, an older Marlin Model 70, and an older Marlin Model 60.

I like shooting all 4.

But my CZ 455 is better than all of them.
>>
Why choose. I've got both.

Popularity. The 60 is marlins most popular gun and likewise with the 10/22.

They really shouldn't be compaired except for accuracy.

I have a Q to anyone who's familiar with semi .22s, I recall seeing some video with what I recall being an M60 (can't be sure) where you could pull the trigger and the bolt would hold open after firing until you released it. Is this a thing or am I retarded?
>>
>>34379295
This. Also the button has like 2 settings as the release and the lock. If you play with it enough you'll figure out how to manipulate it correctly
>>
>>34379175
Spooky? Like tacticool?
>>
>>34382484
what the fuck does an M60 have to do with semi .22 you fucking hump
>>
>>3437928
3>>34379553

Youir 10/22 is fine. You have to pull the bolt back while depressing the bolt release. You can buy or DIY an auto bolt release if you'd like- it's a fairly simple process- but if you do so, a fall or other sharp jolt to the gun will, if it's locked back, release the bolt.
>>
>>34379229
I had this happen. I disassembled it to clean it and when I put it pack together, the bolt release wouldn't release the bolt.

There is this L-shaped spring in the trigger assembly that is connected to the release lever with the other end braced against a pin. If the spring is on the wrong side of that pin (say because the trigger assembly came apart as you were removing it), the release doesn't work.

Check that spring.
>>
>>34382484
I have a pre ww2 savage model 6a that does that. I dont know the purpose of it though.
>>
>>34382484
The model 50 fires from all open bolt... I haven't heard out the system you describe though...

795 magazines are flimsy and unreliable in comparison to the 60's tube feed
>>
>>34382484
if you are talking about the model 60, it has a last shot hold open

I'm not sure if I understand your phrasing though

>>34383560
No, not really... Most issues I've had with 60s or other tube fed variants have been with the magazine spring wearing out. Also the taper pin holding the cap on is a bitch to recreate if you damage one... I've had one blued 795 magazine rust after it fell into the spare tire well in my trunk and sat there for a year. The 7 and 10 round stainless ones are very sturdy.
>>
>>34379187
Then don't be a poorfag who buys butler creek and expects Remington performance
>>
>>34379970
Is that a fucking tire iron taped to your mag?
>>
>>34382601
This guy is correct.
>>
>>34379125
I have had both, and while I loved the Model 60 a lot I would have to say that the 10/22 is the better overall choice. With detachable magazines and the ability to change the rifle to make it closer to what you'd like, I consider it a better overall choice. However I can't knock the Model 60, it was a really great little rifle when I had it, incredibly accurate and worked pretty great. Both are great choices.

Have both.
I don't understand why anybody would every choose a tube fed gun over a mag fed gun.
>>34379170
>because I want a rifle that feels like a full size rifle and not some kiddie starter rifle.
So buy a real centerfire gun instead of a 22lr, because 22s are barely above a good pellet rifle for fun factor. There's a reason I never hardly touch my 22lr guns since leaving highschool over a decade ago. Once you find centerfire guns for 20-25c/r, 22lr loses it's charm real fast.

Completely satisfied with the 597. It's a .22, the didn't HAVE to cut costs with it to begin with and the bolt rails are neato.
