I always thought sabers were just the coolest

that's a shamshir, not the same thing.
>>34379052
You sure that's a shamshir?
>>34379207
It's not a samishir
I've been fascinated with the efficient simplicity of the Spatha and similar swords.
Must've been superb weapons in combination with a shield.

This is why I come to sword threads.
Something like this Italian 17th century sword.

I really wish albion started making renaissance era swords like sideswords and rapiers
Sideswords and rapiers are my favorite

XIIa or XVIIIb
I'm interested in sabers and two handed shit.
I'm buying a sailboat soon and I'd like to keep a naval cutlass onboard because they're cool. What's a good, non-chink tier cutlass that I can pretend to be a pirate while I'm sailing around?
>>34381623
XIII all day erry day
>>34381623
X, I own one, it's maybe the worst designed sword ever and I love it. It weighs about 200-400g more than the later one handed swords, the same as hand-and-a-half swords like XVIIIb. It is literally made for big chopping motions.
You peasants and brigands should go back to tending to my fields.
Polish Sabres but only if they have a Yelman
Any sort of curved British military sabre

X18s are objectively the best lineup. There are even three variations of the baseline!
Diamond or hollow diamond so their blades are as thin as they can be for smooth cutting. Strong center spine so that they're good for thrusting through padding or occasionally through a weak mail ring.
Even most classical children's stories depict swords used by heroic knights as this fuller-less kind of blade; steeply triangular in shape with a single line down the center.

I'm more of a messer fan
>>34378989
I was on the fencing team at uni, so I suppose I'd opt for a colichemarde or a simple war rapier if I were to buy a sword.

> There are even three variations of the baseline!
5 actually.
XVIIIa - short broad, tapered profile. (ie, castillon-a)
XVIIIb: long, slender, (ie, Bayerisches nationalmuseum)
XVIIIc: broad, long (ie, Bashford/Harriet Dean alexandria swords)
XVIIId: very slender, often associated with early complex hilts.
and XVIIId - extended, two handed hilts with a stepped ricasso.
Pic: XVIIIa's

pls, why dont you stand up for your rights, instead bowing to the king?
and XVIIIe's
>>34385768
you mean those rights which meant that ownership of a weapon was not a right, but a _requirement of law_ to qualify as a burgher citizen?
and that those who did not own a weapon could be fined, jailed or even exiled?
the whole "messers were a legal get-around for not being allowed to carry a sword by exploiting a legal loophole" is a myth that's completely false.
>>34385768
I have my reasons
>>34385781
I don't think he meant that cutleranon, he probably was just tried to imply that regular swords are better
>>34383662
Cold steel, it seems like a beater
>>34383662
Since it will be around water, and you don't really have an actual use, a beater should be fine.
The Cold Steel Cutlas Machete ($35) or the Condor Cutlass ($80ish, less Machete more sword). Make sure to oil it from time to time, or get something like Renaissance Wax if you are on salt water.
Becareful though, there maybe some weird maritime laws about carrying weapons depending on what water ways you are on.
My favorite sword that's I own is my Valiant Armory Rhinelander (pic related).
I can't say I have a favorite all time sword though.
Ones I want: Zombie Tools d'Capitain, Lutel Kriegsmesser, Albion Doge, some Citidel Katana.

Oh please. High middle age arms and armor are just as boring in terms of design and aesthetics. Renaissance era swords is where it's at.
Sideswords, basket hilts, rapiers, montantes, dussacks, messers, etc
Falcata
Irish arming sword

They are Incorporated as an imports business and their whole (((smithing))) operation allegedly is in a small industrial warehouse.
They are a step below deepeekas old stuff on QA/QC and the new deepeeka swords are literally better than theirs in every regard. And have sheaths that fit.
Buying a darksword means you're getting swindled and giving money to a swindler. For less fucking money you can get a goddamn Valiant armory sword, sheath, and belt and they are excellent US made cutting swords.
>>34378989
I'm a pretty big fan of the bastard swords. Something about like a XVIIIc that you can use in one hand with a shield if you like but with enough hilt to use longsword two handed techniques.
>>34387673
Fuck you saracen, the High Middle Ages are the best
Two handed Viking style swords. There's been one semi reputable find but I don't care. Looks great.

anything Irish that isn't a leaf or dedannan bladed spear while riding a Connemara Pony.
