I watched that PBS documentary that's on Netflix. What really blew my mind was how seemingly close he came to getting away with it. Apparently the FBI figured out who he was because he checked into a motel near the truck rental agency using his real name. But if he hadn't, shiiit. Never knew law enforcement was so precarious. Also

The Atlanta Olympic Bombing was a failure for a long time.

he detonated a bomb to level a federal building. he wasn't even aware of the daycare centre

It worked. Compare:

FBI and ATF completely changed their operating procedures after McVeigh did his thing. Look how they handled the Bundy thing a few years ago.

If Bundy had happened in the early 90's they would have went in there and killed everyone. They know if they do that now, someone will get pissed off enough to do something about it.
>>
>>34378296
>Atlanta Olympic Bombing
True, but that "only" killed 1 person. As big of a fuck up as that was, could you imagine someone who killed 168 and injured 600 walking free for a few years?
>>
>>34378312
>If Bundy had happened in the early 90's they would have went in there and killed everyone. They know if they do that now, someone will get pissed off enough to do something about it.
Considering the Bundy thing was over taxes that he skipped out on paying, not likely. Him and a bunch of dumb people got all rilled up over something that he started.
>>
>>34378312
Always found it interesting that 9/11 led to more war and more reasons for Muslims to kill US citizens, and yet McVeigh actually succeeded despite his attack killing only a fraction of the 3000 in 9/11

>isn't really familiar with the target
How is this an excuse? Wouldn't you want all about what you plan to blow up to make sure you're hitting something worthwhile?
>>
>>34378378
Not an excuse, and McVeigh showed little remorse about it. He said he'd change target if he had known, but wasn't overly remorseful.

You made it sound like it was his plan to kill children. It wasn't, and neither was killing people either. He wanted to level a federal building and deaths were collateral damage in his eyes.

Don't misrepresent his views anon.
>>
McVeigh was working with the FBI throughout the entire series of events.

McVeigh was a patsy. A fall guy with no real ties to the "Militia" as the media portrayed.

A character in a story written 4 years before the event in OKC, named "Tom Mcveigh" successfully carried out a "lone wolf" bombing of the OKC Federal Building in his story before being apprehended by Oklahoma Highway Patrol for a broken taillight, in similar fashion to how the "real" McVeigh was captured.

Federal Agents who were supposed to be in the building that day were notified in advance not to be there, and the offices of the FBI and ATF were empty at the time of the explosion.

There was anti-terrorism legislation waiting to be passed leading up to the event in OKC, including an earlier version of the "Patriot Act" (which didn't pass) and a modified version of the "Clinton Anti-Terrorism Bill"

>inb4 "Alex Jones, tinfoil hat, paranoid militia" whatever other nonsense bootlickers throw around so they don't have to look into things.
>>
>>34378398
You're confusing me with some other anon. All I'm commenting on is that he's stupid for not understanding completely what he was blowing up.
>>
>>34378711

If you really think his plan wasn't to kill people then how do you think he intended to level a building without doing it? Put up a work order and clear it with the city planners ahead of time and get OSHA on the scene?
>>
>>34378963
It's not that his plan didn't involve killing people. He knew very well how many people would die if he was successful. It's that death wasn't his primary objective, just a by product of it. The people who died were collateral damage for his actual aim, leveling a federal building.

He didn't care about the people that died and was responsible for their deaths. But he didn't set out to kill people specifically.

being able to buy good fertilizer and other common chemicals with out going on list or having to get neutered versions.

the ammonia nitrate fertilizers you get a typical retail stores. it now has chemicals added to it to make it unable to be used in bomb making. getting the good stuff in any quantity over a handful means going on a list.

lots of household chemicals are now only available in diluted form, or replaced with something that can't be made into a bomb and usually performs worse in the intended household role.

I think it had much more to do with the fact that they didn't have full control of the information coming out. They also were facing off with more or less trained forces in large enough numbers and would have expected causalities should they had gone in heavy. If both those factors weren't there, you would have bet money that they would have gotten their asses shot.

You can buy tannerite all day, what do you think that is composed of?

And who honestly gives a shit about being "on a list?" You visit the weapons board of 4chan, have internet access, probably a smart phone (which means either an Apple or Google identity), likely watch netflix or similar internet-based media-on-demand as your source of entertainment, buy things online with credit cards (or debit cards, works the same), and depending on where you live, get flagged everytime you buy cold medicine.

But no, buying a common chemical is what is going to put you on "The List".

Daily reminder that Timothy mcveigh, an unstable retarded hick of a veteran, is currently our closest example of a "professional terrorist that uses common sense"

Just look at it, he and his friend made a powerful bomb out of household chemicals and basic chemistry knowledge then proceeded to remote detonate it, ezpz and more effective than mass shooting/running people over, he basically achieved what every ISIS nigger drools over.

and of course he almost got away if not for his retardation after his operation, best course of action for him would've been to take a hike for a few days in the deepest forest he can find then get the hell outta state, whether by carjacking someone or using public transportation or even legging it -- he's army anyway, let's not let all those rucking exercises go for vain.

So yeah, the best example of "most skilled terrorist" we currently have is this halfwit Mcveigh who got himself captured by his infinite stupidity, so i don't think we should be worrying about terrorism more than we should. especially lone wolf retards.

But seriously though, why can't the world be fucking fun?!?!?? why am i not seeing an ultra-competent terrorist organization that gets it's shit done unlike ISIS?, MAKE IT HAPPEN.

He was a nigger. People who think "but he didn't know any better" to justify the unintended damage are baiting or fucked in the head. It doesn't matter if he didn't mean to kill children, it still happened because of his negligence and ignorance.

All he did was kill some office workers and children. At least the memorial puts a lot of effort into respecting their loss, it's one of the nicest places in OKC.

He was a piece of shit mass murderer that killed 168 people and injured over 600, including 19 children DOA.

If a dumb cunt wants to "wage war" against the Government, blowing up innocent office workers and a day care center is as about psyco-chickenshit-pants on head retarded as it gets.

I wish they could have revived him repeatedly, so they could keep executing him in new and more interesting ways.

>While waiting for the trial, Roden was put in jail under contempt of court charges because of his use of foul language in some court pleadings, threatening the Texas court with sexually transmitted diseases if the court ruled in favor of Howell.

>On August 5, 1989, Howell released the "New Light" audio tape, in which he stated he had been told by God to procreate with the women in the group to establish a "House of David" of his "special people". This involved separating married couples in the group and agreeing that only he could have sexual relations with the wives, while the men should observe celibacy

>Koresh had physically abused children in the compound and had committed statutory rape by taking multiple underage brides. Koresh was also said to advocate polygamy for himself and declared himself married to several female residents of the small community. According to the paper, Koresh declared he was entitled to at least 140 wives, that he was entitled to claim any of the females in the group as his, that he had fathered at least a dozen children, and that some of these mothers became brides as young as 12 or 13 years old.

Also it wasn't likely just him and Nichols. It's likely that there were other people in the Patriot Movement helping them plan and facilitate blowing up the Murrah building.
>>
>>34378275
>>I hate the US gov, so i detonate a bomb near a day care center for Federal employees. That'll do the trick.

McVeigh pretty openly stated that his reasoning was that federal employees were guilty by association, even if they weren't law enforcement.

>>34378398
>It wasn't, and neither was killing people either. He wanted to level a federal building

Which is why he bombed the Murrah building in the middle of the day when it was very likely to be occupied and not at night when it was closed.

Or didn't phone in a threat to force an evacuation (something ETA were fond of doing, and something the IRA did sometimes).

>>34380898

Committing terrorism and/or murder doesn't necessarily make one an irrational actor. It only requires a rational actor seeing violence as the only available and effective action for a desired outcome.

You're grossly simplifying a complex issue anon.

Islam cannot be separated from Islamism and Jihadism (two sides of the same coin of Political Islam), but they don't actually represent the orthodoxy which has historically been Quietist even among Political Islam.

Though OKC and Islamic terrorism are a good comparison, but probably not for the reason you think. The Patriot Movement is a decent analogy for a lot of the ideological back bone of Jihadism, in that it pushed McVeigh along in his radicalization in the same way Jihadists and Jihadism can accelerate radicalization of Moslems today. A helping ideological hand combined with the perceptions and experience of the individual in the process of self radicalization creates actors like McVeigh.
>>

Which makes me think, why didn't this jackass who shot up the Republican baseball practice make it worthwhile. I mean, you know you're going to get shot or incarcerated for life.

Me, I would have made a mold of a second-base, formed it out of tannerite, nails, and ball bearings, then took it out with a suppressed rifle from about 150yds off.

BOOM!

>then tannerite goes the way of ammonium nitrate
>>
>>34386868
>Correct me if I'm wrong, but the ATF completely fucked from the start ?

Sort of. The BATFE and FBI were eager to go in. The BATFE wanted to go in first and got their shit handed to them. Then they wanted to go back in and get payback.

There were some shady process issues including the use of military personnel and materials under the guise of narcotics enforcement for normal law enforcement, and the BATFE and FBI ignored the negotiator on the scene (who is also a SME on Columbine with some interesting insight into that) so they could kick doors and pull triggers.

The same thing happened at Ruby Ridge, which also had some personnel overlap (Lon Horiuchi, for example).

The smack down they got after Ruby Ridge allegedly led to a reluctance to be wrong again regarding McVeigh so there was an institutional paralyzation.
