>Europe is embarking on an expensive and politically charged effort to develop a new combat jet that will shape the future of the European fighter industry and its three existing programs: Eurofighter, France's Rafale and Sweden's Gripen.

>Early talks had started on whether and how European countries could co-operate on a new sixth-generation fighter, which could involve a combination of manned and unmanned systems.

What will a 6th gen Eurofighter look like and what will its potential capabilities be?
>>
>>34372205
Shitty, and extremely late just like every other project in recent memory.
Ruined by France's toddler attitude and Europe's lack of knowledge of even 5th gen aviation

One wonders what features the US 6th geb will have to accommodate the fact that the US will be far below 50% white by the time it is introduced, unlike Europe and designed by engineers taught in the worlds most SJW infested universities.

>Yeah sure ok.
It'll get greenlighted and since France will be spending its own money to make the naval variant they'll ask to be the sole builder.
>Das ist verboten, Frankreich.
Germany will sperg out about how all the Euro cuntries will have to build the naval stealth plane because muh equality. France will threaten to leave if the quality is shit and the delay aren't respected.
>Yeah, sure whatever.
Quality is shit, parts are delayed, France throw a bitch fit and leave to make the plane like they wanted.
Gets called a cunt by the rest of the EU even though their parts on the regular plane are on time and of the required quality.

Alright, so we all know that european cooperations invariably suck and so do european armies and that whatever the americans would be willing to sell to us would be way better and cheaper (not to mention what they would use themselves).

But just to play devils advocate:
In the interest of (limited) military independence from the US, producing our own plane is actually a reasonable endeavour. And considering that it's range of uses and adversaries will be much smaller, it need not be as good as what the americans use. Basically, we don't need to be as good as the americans, we just need to be better than russia at a price we can afford. Considering how russia does these days, that should be entirely possible.

Also, the continued existence of germany by the time this thing becomes operational is doubtful, but the government can't admit that obviously. So it actually does make sense from their perspective.
>>
>>34375874
I think the sucess of this project would be determined by which side won over the eastern EU countries, namely Poland.
>If I build this shit will I be able to kill russians with it?
>Yes, but you cannot...

>>34375554
Europe never tried to develop a 5th gen fighter. Who says Airbus, Leonardo, BAE, Saab and Dassault are not able to make one? The problem is not the capabilities of European defense industry but more the lack of a common European defense policy. If you look at European countries and the different types of fighters that are in service, it's ridiculous. Old Gripens, new Gripens, Rafales, several types of Mirages, different tranches of Eurofighters, different blocks of F-16s, legacy Hornets, Super Hornets, MIGs, Tornados and I probably forgot some too. I don't like the idea of a European army but there is a lot to be gained in terms of cooperation between countries (and defense contractors) that would increase the efficiency and capabilities of the European militaries as a whole. It would be nice if European countries could put aside their protectionism and develop a common replacement for their air superiority fighters, since the F-35 has already taken up the spot as future bomb truck.
>>
>>34376030
All of those airplanes use interchangeable systems though. Interchangeable parts and combined logistics would be nice, sure, but the main problem is probably the cost of keeping each countrys arms industry nice and juicy.
>>
>>34372285

The Brits had a project/concept before they opted for the F-35. The Germs had some stealth fighter design studies too. I've seen 3D renders of some frog stealth fighter proposals as well, and the Swedish Caliphate also had some program, Flygsystem 2020 or some shit.
>>
>>34375017
Whilst his story was gay, it's not impossible. The point being made that shitskins will outnumber whites should explain his scenario's strange decision making.

>Let's study the natural effects of post apartheid South African democracy, for instance.
>>
>>34376155
To be fair physics dictates many design points
which is why the higher the performance planes look so similar for function/application.

What make this so sad is the glowing colors make nonsense at all. And this GI Joe plane you posted has a better engine layout. As that EU engine layout will give insane power with that many compressors (but bleed most of it with so many intake points. Silly designer air can flow both ways ... smack) and better flight surface for maneuvering. But raw power like that will burn through the fuel so fast you may not reach the engagement zone and they is such things as too much power in a air superiority fighter which this looks like what it is trying to be. At least GI Joe's design looks like a decent long range hyper sonic bomber/recon.

This isn't a EU project. The EU would help funding, but OP is quoting it wrong. Of course the Brits are involved if it's about a Typhoon-replacement.

Your scenario would leave all of the countries involved without a 5th gen air superiority platform, so there are no winners when that happens.

Excuse me but doesn't every new "gen" of aircraft bring something new to the table?

Gen 1 where just aircrafts - primarily scouting

Gen 2 we added guns to aircrafts and they could shoot each other

Gen 3 we added jet engines instead of propellers

Gen 4 was about missiles

Gen 5 is now about stealth

What would Gen 6 have? Energy shields?

>>34377078
Germany alone could never develop something similar to F-35. Plus there really aren't any other large countries in Europe they could work with or sell to, since Italy and the UK already opted for the F-35 (albeit the UK not as direct replacement for the Tornado, they might do that later).

Plus Germany already asked for a classified briefing on the F-35.

No, you're misunderstanding. Turkey, along with help from the UK, is developing the TFX.

Since we both know that the EU's fighter will be delayed the EU could just buy the Turkish plane if they don't want an American one.
>>
>>34377241
Turkey needs a new air superiority fighter (they currently only have F4 and F16) and the F35 is no air superiority fighter. Europe already has the Eurofighter and doesn't need an immediate replacement for it, but rather for the Tornados and other bomb trucks. F35 would be a good solution as its already available.
The TFX will certainly have delays and 2023 as introduction date is really optimistic. Maybe it will later become an intermediate replacement for the Typhoon.
