I have a question about 18" barrels. I've noticed that with a regular A2 flash hider, an 18" barrel reaches just about to the start of the threads on 20" barrel. If I used an extended flash hider like the A2X or maybe a Vortex, could I use a bayonet on an 18" barrel?

If you're talking about the Brownells barrels, forget it. They're shit and they overdrilled a bunch of gas ports last year. You can get a 1:9 pencil barrel with the proper rifle feed ramps from some places, a Green Mountain 1:12 A1 barrel, or go with a Criterion 1/8 HBAR with rifle feed ramps, put a scope on it, and pretend it's a Model 655. Most places selling pencil barrels will have M4 feed ramps, which are okay with uncut uppers but not ideal.
