Tell me /k/, are land mines still a viable option for modern warfare, or have their roles become too limited due to urban warfare and small skirmishes replacing the traditional battlefield?
>>
>>34367827
IEDs have been the single most popular weapon for warfare in the past decade.

IEDs are essentially homemade land mines.
>>
IEDs are immensely popular in modern warfare and they are somewhat related to landmines
>>
>>34367841
>>34367842
Are landmines useful to a Western military fighting the type of war we're engaged in, or is the area denial they provide only useful to the local Jihadists?
>>
>>34367841
>>34367842
this
IED's are mines in everything but name
>>
>>34367861
Yes. A claymore is a landmine. It is used all the time.
>>
>>34367861
Fuck fighting in the Middle-East. What are the best mines to place on the border with Mexico? Or for that matter, Canada as well.
>>
>>34367861
Pretty sure they can only legally be used as area denial, because of their indiscriminate nature.
>>
>>34367915
>What are the best mines to place on the border with Mexico?
Aerosolised MDMA and Viagra bombs, with some trail cameras.

Catch those cartel having gay sex should go a long way to destroying their machismo.

>Or for that matter, Canada as well.
One that launches rubber geese. Geese are the Canadians mortal enemy, they are akin to Australia and emu.
>>
>>34368234
On the Mexico border, any mine should be fine. Just plant them around virgin Mary statues, and the spics will flock to your mines.
>>
>>34368195
>legally
the us has not signed the international treaty that bans them, signed by circa 190 countries. legally, they can do whatever the fuck they want.
>>
>>34367915
>What are the best mines to place on the border with Mexico?
Nowhere. Terrible idea for two reasons:
>You have to give the law enforcement agency (agencies, really) mines
>sets precedence
>precedence for law enforcement in general mining shit
>even if that's unlikely, precedence is an insanely tricky thing
>so is normalization of otherwise outlandish and insanely bizarre shit
Secondly:
>Military on the border placing mines, during peacetime, is clearly a gross overreach of federal power
>Also falls foul of the Posse Comitatus Act

Just asking for trouble, plus it isn't like the US-Mexico border is even that big of a deal in the first place since the """War on Drugs""" does more harm than good (except for the CIA) and illegal immigration is just a laughingly simple fix: enforce the law.

>Get the government to stop fueling the problem and to enforce existing laws
>stop prosecuting drug users
>treat rampant drug addiction like a public health epidemic
>utterly fucking crucify anyone bringing the shit in
>Since junkies stop being a problem if you can watch them, make them try to get off the shit slowly
>with the major driving force of violent crime being tackled crime rates drop significantly
>disease infection rates drop too
>unwanted crack babies become less of a problem
>cycle begins to become unsustainable, society improves
>socioeconomic situation in South America improves
>Mexico begins to stabilize
>USA wins again

Within a decade I guarantee you hard drug use will become completely irrelevant.

Sadly your good suggestions would never happen because it uses ideas from 'both sides'.
>>
>>34372691
Oh, I know, we're doomed to have a decaying society where nothing gets done because it's a red-blue pissing match.
>>
>>34372784
It is a painful realization when you realize that your country is largely made up of children fighting over favorite colors while their leaders are really on the same side profiting off perpetuating the whole thing.
>>
>>34373575
All complex societies have an inherent tendency towards increasing rent-seeking over time.

It's why you see political structures rise and fall.

Which is why I've all but given society the finger and fucked off to some place in the woods indefinitely. People say, "anon what do you think?" and then I inevitably piss everyone off by not displaying one of the two flavors of retard. People who think I'm a hardcore conservative are surprised to learn that I don't mind things like universal income or socialized medicine, I just want it to work. Then those same people recoil in horror when I say I don't support the welfare state we've created because it's bloated, inefficient, and ultimately doesn't do what it's supposed to do.

Even more frustrating is the tendency to inject X platform position into something that's entirely unrelated. Yes, I get it, neocons like guns and hate abortion, but I don't like having hundreds of thousands of unwanted minority babies running all over the place. I bring that up because, and I shit you not, some retard said flat-out claimed that my pro-choice position means I'm anti-gun because I'm a "faggy Berniebot" (I voted third party) and that was his "socialist agenda all along." What the fuck was I supposed to say to that? Something so absurdly stupid was too much, for once in my life I was genuinely speechless.

Not too long ago I made a pretty tame joke about the DMV taking forever, essentially a "lol government!" crack. Complete fucking retards came out of the woodwork to remind me that I should thank X for the awful state of affairs. No, I don't think "Drumpf" or "Obongo" are to be blamed for a sleepy rural courthouse having one person on staff to renew licenses.

I said in another thread that I feel like I'm surrounded by NPCs, everyone's memory just seems to abruptly stop when it hits January 1st 2016.

I just want it to end god damn it. I just want it to fucking end.
I'm so tired, so very tired.

Let's go to Mars, anon. Let's make the perfect society there, we got really close with the USA, so very close, I think we can get it even better.

Or Venus! Let's make Bespin, you and I, we'll trick the Norks into letting us build our vehicles and then take a bunch of adorable skelly honeys with us.
