It's a stretched chinook with a wing, 4 blade rotors, and more powerful engines. It also has a third pilot position that drops from the floor and faces backwards. So a pilot can fly the helicopter while looking at what he is trying to sling load.

It flies faster and farther than normal chinooks. the wing rotates when hovering to keep it from blocking air. the wing also reduces load on the rotors.

>chopper designed to be ultra fast
>"WHY IS THERE NO MILITARY VARIANT OF IT!"

Gee, Mr. Retard, i dunno.

Maybe it has to do something with its possible applications? Or the fact that its high speed is not needed without having a task that is better suited for an airplane?

That's like asking why aren't racecars in combat zones since they are so fast.

Still faster, and double operational range.

Osprey is a safe as fuck craft once it gets off the ground. Half the time there's a mechanical shutdown and abort, but whatever. Still not going to die half as often as a blackhawk, seaknight, or any heli in use currently.

Want to know how I know you never deployed?

12 years navy, attached to seabees. We moved more marines in those things, to more distant locations than any heli could ever think of.

so much room for grunts, so much range... they are the best man movers we have.

At better speed and altitude and range than anything else in the sky.

Seabees bread and butter is destroying landing zones, constructing landing zones and doing it in hostile territory.

F/A-18 and tomahawks go first, followed by ospreys followed by A-10s. It's simply the best way to move the expeditionary forces, fucking helicopters are flying coffins compared to V22

Blackhawks + Rangers = Airfields.
After that use whatever fucking planes you want.
>>

>Blackhawks + Rangers = Casualties

FTFY

also Seabees + sea knights = Casualties

cruise missiles and ospreys and chinooks destroy airfields, remake them and call in CAS after gunners are already working the mountains.

rangers havent been doing alot of engineering type tasks since "le surge". Marines and Navy Engineers are back to actually doing their jobs.

I don't know when you last deployed, but rangers are back to doing ranger shit, (army is back to doing army shit overall actually). They use half assed intel, and go in half blind, and kill baddies in their own compounds.

It's a rough task for rough motherfuckers, respect to Rangers clearing compounds like they were going to ask for a cup of tea.... I wouldn't have the nuts for it.

>>
>>34364667
Because lifting an object requires more energy than pushing/pulling it through the air.
Helicopters are also limited in speed and altitude by their method of creating lift. The faster a helo goes, the more inefficient its lift is due to lower relative air speeds over one side of the rotor. This means they can't ascend to high altitudes and cruise in lower air pressures like planes can. This limitation is somewhat mitigated by contra-rotating rotors. With contra-rotating rotors, you don't have to worry as much about unbalanced lift due to unequal relative airspeeds. They are somewhat less efficient due to having to spin two main rotors instead of a single rotor.
